Based upon the Mazda3 Sport hatchback, the MAZDASPEED3 gives sports-minded consumers a double dose of Zoom-Zoom.* With its compact, lightweight body and maximum power of 263 horsepower @ 5500 rpm and 280 lb.-ft. of torque at 3000 rpm, the MAZDASPEED3 is one of the highest performance sports compacts with front-wheel-drive on the road today.
MAZDASPEED3 dramatically reinforces the acclaimed dynamics of the original Mazda3 and delivers maximum driving pleasure through outstanding performance and a superior chassis. To create this new benchmark, Mazda looked to embody the following three requirements:
Driving Fun: Formidable performance from the MZR 2.3L DISI Turbo engine, along with sharply responsive handling achieved by capitalizing on the characteristics of the compact, lightweight body.
Ownership Delight: Exterior styling that gives an immediate impression of driving fun, and an interior with a quality feel that exceeds expectations.
Everyday, User Friendly Convenience: An exceptional balance of driving pleasure with everyday functionality and comfort.
As a result, the flagship of the Mazda3 range features a stylishly sophisticated look combined with performance levels that make it one of the fastest sports compacts with a FWD layout. MAZDASPEED3 offers truly exhilarating acceleration from a standing start, superior passing acceleration in the practical speed range and one of the highest top speeds in its class.

5.2 sec is very respectable for a sports compact. Only supercars get into the 4 sec range.

Why can't we have that kinda show in North America...

Sure you can, just find an American version of Jeremy, James and Richard. You would also need a really cinematographer and director to create that look and feel of Topgear.
Doubtful in finding a colour character like Jeremy, he's the fat tall guy with the curly hair.

Honestly i said that i'll call them back later, not so interested, i still don't feel the hatch.

Nope. 4.9s for the 335 - pretty much on par with the M3s; confirmed by several magazines. BMW understated their performance figures big time (to save face for the M's?)
How much is a Speed3 though? More than a third less methinks ---> great value....

What I like about the Speed6 is that it doesn't have that 'boy racer' image that cars like the new Si and Speed3 have. The Speed6 is very understated and most wouldn't even notice it wasn't a regular 6. I suppose some people don't like that, but I do!

Thats exactly what I thought, especially if you get the car in the Liquid Silver colour (the Copper Red screams attention)...the MS6 is an awesome car. Its AWD (something the MS3 doesnt have) and I have also seen several dynos from the states where the car puts down 245-250WHP and 250-260WTQ...this is from a car thats rated at 275HP 280TQ. Is it very efficient or underrated....id say the latter. The Subaru WRX Sti advs. 300/300 and ppl on dynos get anywhere from 240-250whp from the thing since the AWD systems robs.
I drove the MS6 last night...and it is a sweet ride. The transmission is buttery smooth and the power is pretty scary...especiallly since comming from a Mazda 3 2.0L Manual. Through the test drive I got a hold of the clutch only near the end...that thing GRABS, however it is very light...and probably would need a couple of days to get used to it. But the car literraly put a smile on my face, and the salesman nervous :). What I love is the highway power tho. I didn't have to downshift to 3rd lol to overtake quicly...stayed in top gear and pressed the GOPEDAL maybe halfway and that thing took off to 160 in a flash...didnt know I was even going that fast! very stable!
What I have found out is that the Reccommended fuel is 93 octane...where 91 is "acceptable"...ppl have stated the the car feels like it looses 50hp from going to 91, and there is a Reflash needed on the 06's to give you a smoother ride and to leave the WG in check with the lower octane. (the hp ratings are with 93 octane)...that is why Mazda is giving rebates of something liek 3500usd for mostly ppl in the west....most western states cannot get anything above 91 octane (specifically Cali), so if you are in BC it would be worth it to buy one down there...just as its worth it to make the trip for an STi because the price is such a big difference.
So you could have the 06 (not 07) model for about 660 per month on 6yrs financing (i would not sweat about the 6 yrs since the rates are so low for the 06) which is a lot less then the MS3 and you WILL have waayyyyyy cheaper insurance. The MS3 will be considered a boy racer car with the ins companies....which from the rates is clear.
The better deal is the MS6 overall and CHEAPER...for a car that has been sitting here 5 mos, I really dont care that it is an 06. The 07 MS6 rates and financing info is up on mazda.com :P.
But hey we all play on the same team :)

I've driven the MS6 several times as my buddy has one, and while the car does have great pull, I would no way compare it to a MS3. Even a regular 3 is more sporty then the MS6, the 3 just doesn't have the power. I'll be test driving the MS3 this weekend so then I'll be able to do a real comparison between the two.

09-27-2006, 05:15 PM
For my comment about sporty, I meant look and ride feel, the MS6 is too floaty. Since you guys brought up a modified 3 and a MS6, I can tell you the 3 does beat it on handling. This past weekend we had a car rally where we took some very serious twisties (one car ended up upside down in the ditch :o) and my 3 with the prokit, upgraded swaybars, Eagle F1 tires, did beat the MS6 thru the corners. On the corner that one of the cars flipped, I was totally flat while the MS6 lost it's back end but the TCS kicked in and put him straight.
Now I'm guessing you're going to say, well it was the drivers that made the difference, well half way through I switched cars with the MS6 driver and the MS6 owner was shocked how my 3 handled. The MS6 does handle well for the size of the car, but it's not as nimble as a modded 3.

I'm with Swales on this one. The Speed3 will take the Speed6 on the track road course not 1/4 mile. There are more suspension and body braces on the MS3 than the MS6. I actually drove the Speed3 yesterday at Agincourt. The MS6 is quicker off the line b/c of the AWD but hammer the accelerator on the MS3 and watch out. The MS3 doesn't have as much body roll as the MS6 and it feels so much lighter.
My opinion since I'm approaching my 30's is get the MS3 not in red but whatever the 3rd production may be (prays for grey). I felt like an older man driving the MS6.
