View Full Version : PLEASE READ!!! PLEASE RESPOND!!!
Hello everyone!!!
I know that only a few of us are on the board right now, I actually wanted to post this on the normal forum for more response, but I'll take what I can get! :D
I'm doing a study on Sirius satellite radio for class. http://www.sirius.com
I would really like to know your opinions on Sirius.
Please answer these questions in your reply.
Questions:
1. Do you have a Sirius subscription?
2. Do you plan to keep your subscription?
3 Why do you plan to keep or discontinue your subsription?
4. Do you plan to get a Sirius subscription?
5. Is Sirius radio to expensive?
6. Is the subcription to expensive, the head unit, or both?
7. If you don't have a subscription...why?
(ie. no interest? to expensive? not a large advantage over regular radio or other mediums...etc)

it's funny when people say that paying for radio is dumb yet they are also probably paying for "cable" tv.
tv signals are available over-the-air for FREE (even HiDef channels) yet most are paying for cable. same deal with satellite radio - it is the "cable" tv version of radio.
1. Do you have a Sirius subscription? Yes
2. Do you plan to keep your subscription? Yes
3. Why do you plan to keep or discontinue your subsription? Stern, 80s/90s Hip Hop, more variety than terrestial radio
4. Do you plan to get a Sirius subscription? Already have one
5. Is Sirius radio too expensive? Depends if you're on the US Sub or the Cdn Sub. $14.99 is too much.
6. Is the subcription too expensive, the head unit, or both? Units sold in Canada are overpriced. Units sold in the USA are newer and reasonable in price
Needless to say, i haven't listened to FM radio since getting Sirius last year.

4. Do you plan to get a Sirius subscription?* no
* *5. Is Sirius radio to expensive? yes
* *6. Is the subcription to expensive, the head unit, or both?* both
7. If you don't have a subscription...why? a) Regular radio isn't so bad.* b) I use an MP3 player on random, which is like having my own satellite radio station with my favourite songs and not some imcompetent producer.

true enough BUT, if the programs they really need/want are available for free then why pay.. some people might not know better (eg. me) since they've never tried sat radio.. and when i bought my OEM MP3 deck it seemed more feasible.. but cable "it's always been there" since i came to canada .. yeah in poland it was prohibitively expensive so we watched channel 1 for news and 2 for other programming (i think) and those lucky ones that could make a contraption to 'catch' a russian channel had a THIRD one.. wow.. :P
just like people pay for satellite, you can get FTA ones as well but do you get everything you want there??.. unlikely

6. Is the subcription too expensive, the head unit, or both?
A: Subscription (generally the units can be had for free with contract or for fairly cheap)
7. If you don't have a subscription...why?
A: Factors include: Unsightly module required, must mount the antenna on the car, monthly fee, don't find my MP3 CD's lacking

I seriously thought about it, but don't want to pay the monthly fee. I HATE the commercials on the radio. And they all seem to go to commercial at the same time.
Just need an oldschool 80's channel, a PGA golf channel and a news channel... without commercials!

Questions:
1.* Do you have a Sirius subscription? Yes.
* *2. Do you plan to keep your subscription?Sure, why not?* All the NFL games, 80s, 90s, Playboy, etc etc.
* *3 Why do you plan to keep or discontinue your subsription?I've had it over a year and I love it so far.* It also includes a internet steam so I can listen to it at work.
4. Do you plan to get a Sirius subscription? N/A
* *5. Is Sirius radio to expensive? No...at $13 a month...thats 40 cents a day...my Timmy's coffee already costs 3 times as much.* Time is money...and I don't want to waste my life listening to commercials.* Since I've gone with Sirius, I don't listen to FM anymore except on Friday or Sat nights when Chum has their live to air at a club.
* *6. Is the subcription to expensive, the head unit, or both? The head unit is expensive...and thats a big stumbling block to get new subscribers.* The Mazda OEM unit is way over priced but thats the price you pay for integrated display on stock HU.
7. If you don't have a subscription...why?

How do I get Speed, TLC or TSN without paying for cable? And I don't want to steel the signal either. If I can get those channels for free legally I would gladly tell the Rogers family to take a hike.

so you are paying for premium content, which is similar to satellite radio...there are stations that play songs that you can hear on free FM, and there are stations that play content you can't get on free FM.

That I understand. But in your quote below:

You made it sound like I was stupid for paying for cable when I could find the specific content I wanted on the free stations. When in fact I can't.
But I do agree with you that it's the "new cable" of radio.

didn't mean to come off that way...it was more a generalization for those that think paying for radio is dumb.
if you think i made you sound like you were stupid, then you most probably are for thinking that way :D just kidding ;)

Hey, I hope you know your sampling method is skewed. I mean you're targeting a select group of people (probably car enthusiast, younger males, who are computer savvy (Fang excepted)). You can't extend your analysis to the general population.
Agreed! It will be noted where these observations were taken, but I have not only posted on this car forum. I'm targeting automobile enthuiests/owners in general.
Thank you though!

1. Do you have a Sirius subscription? - Yes, courtesy of Mazda Canada for 1 year.
2. Do you plan to keep your subscription? - Undecided, leaning towards no.
3 Why do you plan to keep or discontinue your subsription? Not worth it, too much repeat programming, would reconsider if more programming was added.
4. Do you plan to get a Sirius subscription? No
5. Is Sirius radio to expensive? - Depends which model, in general I think they are reasonable.
6. Is the subcription to expensive, the head unit, or both? - Sub is expensive, head unit depends on the model.
7. If you don't have a subscription...why? - n/a
