I've planned a few weekends to Niagara on the Lake. During the fall the hotels have some specials. The foods at some of the wineries are top notch. A road trip to Montreal is always a favorite of ours. Northern resorts can be quite good as well (Dearhurst/Cleveland House).
We generally prefer the Big City getaways only because there’s so much to do and see.

My wife and I recently did two little week-end getaways:
1) Horseshoe Valley Resort in Orillia - for the price it was good.* We went up with a few other couples, did some fishing, playing frisbee, that sort of thing.* Rooms are nothing to write home about.
2) Blue Mountain Resort - Westin Trillium House - now this was amazing.* Each room has the heavenly bed, amazing marble bathrooms, fireplaces, etc.* They also have an outdoor pool that is heated year round, and the patio stones surrounding it are also heated.* If you haven't been to Blue Mountain in the past five years then you're in for a surprise......it has totally transformed into a quaint little village with a slew of restaurants, hotels, and activities.* At night you can sit by a firepit, watch a movie under the stars, etc.
We have already said we want to go back to the Trillium House in the winter.* If you want pics of either place or more info feel free to PM me.

Niagra on the lake is a getaway I enjoy once or twice a year. The wine tasting is a lot of fun. As well, if you are into theater you cThere aran get tickets(reasnably priced) for the Shaw festival. There are some really nice bed and breakfasts in the area, that are small, but still nice, which I prefer to the hotel. The ex and I had several nice weekends there...
