Hey there, new to the site...I am very close to purchasing a new Mazdaspeed 3, the only thing holding me back right now is the color options...or LACK thereof. I am not a big fan of red but like white even less (sorry if any of you have those colors, not meant to offend). Anyways, one of the options I am pursuing is the idea of making the purchase in the US, where there are more options for color, and as an added bonus the price is actually cheaper even when you factor in the exchange, duty, and taxes, plus any Ontario Transport fees. My question is does anyone have any experience on buying a new car in the States that they could pass on. I have read the riv.ca website and most of it is basic, but there is definitely some leg work involved. I have contacted Mazda USA and they sent me importation forms.
Thanks in advance for any help or suggestions. And yes I realize that I won't have financing options through Mazda USA...hopefully the bank will hook me up!!

you may have seen this already in your research (http://www.legacygt.com/forums/showthread.php?t=24153)... the guy didn't have to pay duty since the Legacy is made in the usa.

since the mazdaspeed3 is built in Japan, there will be a 6% duty on the car :(

And PST is payable upon registration in Ontario.

Also, look into whether or not the factory warranty is valid when its transfered to Canada. I can't see why it wouldn't be, but you never know.

I thought I had read on the old site that the US warranty is not valid here and vice versa, though perhaps Jeff/TheBiz can shed some more light on that.

As long as the vehicle wasn't written off in the U.S. then the warranty is valid. The service department on our side has to contact customer relations who would then contact Mazda USA.
