I too first thought this product was BS until I installed one tonight. Took like 5 minutes to install the insert. Closed the hood and went for a drive down John Street. I'm not kidding when I say that this shit actually works. I don't know about the fuel saving part but damn the car accelarates a hell of a lot quicker than it did before.

Instead of the car shifting at around 3000-3500 r.p.m. it waits until about 4500 till the next shift. I don't know how this thing works but if you want to drive my car and see you're more than welcome to.

The insert is installed where the air intake hose meets the airbox.

Ever wonder why water swirls as it goes down the drain or a hole? It's faster and smoother that way. Same thing applies to air.

I know, but doesn't it also make it more turbulent?
Im just relaying what i've read on the internet over the years about these types of products.

the swirling is due to the design of a toilet or tub as it converges to the hole. water doesn't swirl when falling down a hole (i.e. sewer grate).

Noooooooooooo! Not you Flippy!

You're feeling the infamous butt-dyno. I'll bet you a Mazdaspeed3 that if you dyno it, you'll find you are not gaining any hp.

And no, it doesn't increase fuel efficiency.

Placebo? ???
Well I guess it's a good substitute for getting rid of his CAI.

Dunno about this one; If Joe is promoting this, MoT just might have to reconsider his future employment... just joking. :)

No placebo effect here like the TB ground thing. :P

All I have to say is that the car feels different and as far as fuel economy goes we'll have to see.

Sorry, Joe, but I have a pretty strong opinion against these types of devices. (please don't take my discounts away LOL)

Here are some more links on similar devices...

"If these things really worked, theyd come out of the factory with them on."

AUTO SHOP OWNER PEG JESSE SAYS IF THESE DEVICES WORKED AS PROMISED, GM, FORD AND CHRYSLER WOULD BUY MILLIONS OF THEM!

"The companies are trying to meet mileage standards set by the government, if they could fix something with a very inexpensive part, it would come out of with it on."

How about the increase in power? All three drivers said they felt an increase in power after installing the Tornados. I put them back on the Dynamometer to see how much the power increased. We got the same horsepower readings on all three cars, no increase in horsepower. I asked the drivers why they said their cars had more power and they all said, "Well, it felt like it had more power."

PAUL: These are add-on devices that you put on your car. They advertise that they increase fuel efficiency and performance. We tested three, the Fuel Genie, the Tornado and the Platinum Gas Saver. They all range from about $80 to $100. And in all of our tests, none of them increased fuel efficiency or performance significantly. Don't waste your money.

O'BRIEN: They're not worth the $80 or $100 that you spending in the first place.

PAUL: No, not at all. No.

This is the kind of stuff I read too..
It would be better if you had a baseline dyno vs a dyno with that.
Logs of fuel economy before and after install would be nice too.

I dunno Joe, if it really did work more cars would have them as a stock item. In theory it makes sense but I doubt there is a significant differance. I'd return it saying i bought the wrong size. For 90$ you could buy a lotta things!!!

Be careful. I know of a few cars that have actually sucked in those things into the throttle body. In one case, it got stuck in the throttle body and his throttle was stuck in WOT. He had to turn off the car to get it to stop. This was at the track.

holy shit... that would be scary..
quick neutral + turn off = ftw!

how would it get sucked into the TB? there a butterfly flange at the opening of the TB. So did it get dislodged.. and got stuck vertically in one half of the TB causing it to stick open?

It was actually the Tornado, which is metal and bends to fit the intake. It bent out of shape and lodged itself somehow in the butterfly. The Genie probably doesn't bend since it is plastic, so Flippy is probably safe. But I've never seen a Genie up close.

The thing is pretty snug in the intake hose. I had to stretch the rubber a bit. :P

it's basically all the same,
plastic, cylindrical, with slotted fins

The Genie also doesn't move like the Tornado...but it still requires a press-fit to remain stationary.

The Tornado doesn't move at all. It is stationary just like the Genie.
