Still gotta get my winter shoes in order.
There was a dusting of frost/light snow on the ground up this morning.
Just hate the prospect of getting up on a Saturday to line up with the common people to get the winter shoes in place.
I hear Michelin Pilots are horrendous in snow, so I'm in big trouble if I don't get my azz in gear.
Anyone else waiting until AFTER the first big snowstorm to put on their winter set? :D

Mines are on since Saturday, got a flat and realize that the RS-A are almost done so I better save some tread for spring before I put new tires next summer.

Not really. Friday in Toronto has a predicted high of 10C and a low of 0C. All-season tires get too hard around 7C.
And let's all not rely on the weather-man/woman!

Exactly what it says is recommended for the car - 32 max psi. A lot of people like to play with the psi, but I stick with what is recommended because the tires will wear unevenly otherwise IMO.

Not really.* Friday in Toronto has a predicted high of 10C and a low of 0C.* All-season tires get too hard around 7C.
To clarify this...
If you're running summer tires, then it's a no brainer. They get dangerous as the temperature gets closer to 0C so nobody should be using them anymore now. To do so would be stupid and irresponsible.
For all season tires... it's not that they get too hard around 7C. It's that 7C is the magic temperature where the traction of all season tires gets surpassed by that of winter tires. So even without snow or ice, the winter tires will grip better at 7C or below so you might as well use them.
I think I know what some of you will be doing next week Thursday afternoon/evening.* ;D

Given what's out West, I think we're headed for some bad weather finally.

Any all season will work if there are no surprises. Once you hit the extreme limits, your all seasons will fail miserably and you'll wish you used your insurance deductable for a good set of snows.

Does everyone here go with winters?
I know that the car comes with all seasons, but they are not "the best" for snow performance.
But can I get by with them for one season, given that I do not drive all that often, and if I have a long trek to make, I can always borrow a Camry if need be?
I had planned on buying winters, but a bit strapped for cash with some big purchases looming.
Just to anticipate, saying, "it'll be more costly to remove your car from the post it's wrapped around," is already understood.
Ok, have at it.

most do.. most of us use the 3 as a daily commuter and a lot of us go 40+ km each way..

agreed :)

some have w/o problems and some ended up with costly repairs.. then realized winters werent such a bad idea afterall
I had planned on buying winters, but a bit strapped for cash with some big purchases looming.
you have to set your own priorities.. unfortunately, tires, mainetance, gas, insurance are all the lovely expenses we have to deal with when we want to drive :(

in all honesty, if you DONT drive a lot and HAVE THE OPTION of not driving when it snows, you might just get by.. but YMMV ..

There are some really really good values out there for snows. Gone are the days where they were crazy expensive.
You also can think of purchasing snows as extending the life of your summer tires, since your winter mileage is on the snows. Overall, it probably works out very well for a big performance gain.
majic, do the $$$ crunching for the folks. facking robot.

Something to keep in mind is that it's not really going to cost you much more in the long run to use snow tires. Once you have them, you're not wearing down your other set while you have them on the car so instead of having 1 set of tires that last you 4 years, you've now got two sets lasting 5-7 years, depending on how you drive.
You're trying to justify keeping your money in your pockets instead of buying snow tires. Obviously, plenty of people do that and if that's your plan, nothing we say is going to change your mind.
The fact is, you're much safer and much less likely to have an unfortunate incident in the winter with snow tires on. If you decide to risk it and not use them, that's your perogative. Just don't follow too closely behind the other 3's you see on the road this winter... or the giant-winged Sunfires. We won't appreciate you running into the back of us because you cheaped out. ;)

Ok, I guess what I was hoping to hear is how bad ARE the stock tires anyway?
I'm assuming they are not "end of the world" bad. I see tons of retards every year that have no clue how to drive in the snow and it boggles my mind. Just wondering, are the 3s stock tires THAT bad? Or are they just bad when combine with less experienced drivers?
Money isn't that huge of an issue really, and it was only going to be for one season at most anyway. It's more that I have tons of expenses going through all at the same time, and getting tough to keep track of it all. Not to mention the logistics of having to store my stock tires. Or do some of the places that you buy or get service do that for you? I guess I could probably head up to my brother in laws shop in Oshawa and have him change/store them if he has room.
Anyway, if I can get some serious comments on the actual performance of the tires in winter, from an experienced winter driver that would be great.
I'll search on here, but not sure since this is a temp site, if we've been keeping up on the group buys, or special deals. So if someone knows of a deal on good tires and can post them here that would be cool.

Listen to the man. I've never had the RSAs but I recall a pretty much universal dislike on TM3 of their performance in snow. Outright dangerous is how I would summarize those comments.
