4000km? 8000km?

as far as i know there's no 'discounts' on those services.. if you wish to buy the oil filter and do the oil change yourself, you may do so from Joe @ MoT at a 20% discount...

Why are you getting a 4000km service? Do you drive a cobalt?

^^^Like Majic says, and I believe you might be following the wrong maintenance schedule....our 3's follow the 8k service intervals.

They inserted a card saying your first oil change should be at 4,000km.
After that, continue at regular intervals.

Whom, may I ask, inserted a card saying your first oil change should be 4000km?

It is a common practice to get your oil changed between 0km to 4000km for a new car. The reason being is people believe a new engine will churn out more debris during its break in period, so your first oil will be full of metal bits and pieces. How "true" is this? Well...some people believe in babying their new car while others drive it like they stole it. Its just "one of those things" that can be argued to death. If you feel comfortable with leaving till 8000km, then do that but if its bugging you, spend the $40 for piece of mind.

btw: I got my first oil change at 2500km. :D

That's what I suspected!.... I don't beleive its necessary to do the 4k oil change in order to keep with the Mazda Warranty... I could be wrong, it could be a new directive from Mazda for some reason! Flippy can probably chime in here with the facts. But, nevertheless it couldn't hurt to change the oil at an earlier time, for reasons already posted above.I did my first oil change at 1000k just to be on the safe side.....like scarboro my 3's a keeper... longterm.

Why does it seem scammish if you did your first oil change at 1200 ??
I think a person above has already explained the purpose of it.

It's just a insert telling me to do my FIRST oil change at 4,000km, after that continue at the regulary schedule. I think people are confused at what I originally meant. It's not telling me to do oil changes at 4,000km intervals.
Some of the responses on here are plain non sensical and pointless.

Who said anything about necessary? It's just a recommendation. I think some of you just mistook what I meant initially.

Reading your last couple of posts.....to everyone's defence here, you were pretty vague in your posts and you never said it was "recommended".... anyways, it is 'scammish' for a dealership to insert a card recommending an oil change 4k before Mazda's recommendation. As for many here doing their first oil change earlier it's just because we're Car Nuts, but to the unsuspecting consumer it would be imo scammish.Anyways everyone here is just trying to be helpful.Thats what this board is all about....right!?

Like everyone else is said it doesn't hurt to change your oil sooner but that's pretty seedy of them to ignore the "Mazda" recommended service.
