I installed a 2nd hard drive last night. I have hooked it up as the slave drive. In the CMOS it is recognized as it being there, but when I go into My Computer, the drive is not there. I am using XP.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks in advance!

if no, check your cables (power and IDE/SATA) - but you say the BIOS recognizes it so we're ok, it's getting power and data cable is in..

this leads me to believe it's either NOT formatted or you have a network drive with a low letter such as D or E mapped and the drive is taking on the same letter but there's a conflict.. you can remap network drive or change the drive letter on the HD by rt clicking on the drive in the computer management console you opened in step 1 :)

at the same time, if the partition on the drive either doesn't exist (unformatted) or is unknown, rt click the drive and create partitions and then format.. if all of that doesn't work i'll escalate to the second level service ;)

Hey Majic,

I can see the drive in Disk Management in the bottom part, not the top part. It says that it is unallocated. Any idea what I need to do?

Right click and choose FORMAT or CREATE PARTITION if you want to make a bunch of smaller drives. After you create a partition, then choose FORMAT.

the slave drive does not appear in the upper part of the screen. the only drive that it there is the master. the salve drive appears in the pane below the master drive and it says that it is unallocated. when i right click on it, the only options are new volume, convert to basic disk, properties, and help.....i dislike computers...lol
