After work yesterday night I came to my car and started it and really didnt enjoy the 5 min wait to get it warmed up.... I need a remote starter. My question is ..... what one to get. I want good quality and have no time spending the money if the product is worth it. I would prefer the two way type. Thanx guys and gals! Damn im stoked we are up again! HOME AGAIN!

Thanx buddy! Heard compustar have issues... automatically starting sometimes? Heard that Cliford was better...... both of these snipits of info come from the same person who sells both... So he could be making more money on the cliffords? Could be biased... who knows. In more info folks?

Actually if I'm not mistaken, Joe was mentioning some Mazda starters on the old den. I'll try and find the thread (if its merged here) or PM Joe.

Here is the thread. Joe posted a couple of posts in and the price is a little further down on the first page.

Yeah the OEM one looks great! Good price too. I would just like to be able to turn it on and know it is running..... the two-way feature is key.

yeppers.. i usually just turn the key and go.. keeping it below 3K RPM until it warms up.. no harm in that and the engine warms up faster..

3GFX warm up procedure

- Turn on
- Let it idle until it idles at 1250RPM (You'll notice it will take longer when colder)
- Once at 1250RPM drive carfully, and don't shift over an engine speed of 3000RPM

Notes:
- Don't blast the heat, it won't be warm at all
- The heat won't pour out of your vents until the temperature gauge is above the Cold line.
- Unless you're driving along, fan speed 3 or 4 will still only blow cold air until you've been driving for a while.

almost sounds like the whole A/C 'issue' in the summer....don't blast the a/c, it won't be cold at all :)

You must be sitting in your car for at least ten minutes.

The best way for the car to warm-up without affecting much else in terms of wear-and-tear despite the cold weather is starting up, wait max 30 seconds, then granny drive it until the temperature gauge reaches mid-point. That is also when the heater will be comfortably warm.

The way I look at it, the oil's gotta reach the top of the heads warm.

So there is no harm in starting then driving with no warm up as long as you keep it under 3000rpm? Anyone else agree? I always thought it was good or better to let it warm up..... besides on the -10 day we had the other day.... it was nice to get into the car with heat coming out and a warm seat!

Yea, in many new car manuals the warm up procedure is just get up and go, but be careful when you go until the car is warm.

A perfect example of this are bimmers. All new bimmers have 'moving' redlines which are adjusted according to the engine's temperature. The redline will move itself around the dial indicating the appropriate redline.

This is just an indicator that an engine need to warm up before you milk it.

You're going to get a lot of different answers.

Personally, when its cold out, I let the RPMs drop below 1250 before driving off and don't start pushing the car past 3000 until the temp gauge starts moving.

I don't believe it starting the car then taking off right away. You have to let the oil circulate first. Of course, if you are running full synthetic, then you reduce engine wear at startup.

The bulk of all engine wear occurs when you first start the car because oil has sunk to the bottom of the oil pan.

oil has reached the top of the cylinder head within the first few seconds....otherwise your camshafts would grind to a halt if the system waited until the oil was warm....there's a reason engine oil is multi-grade.

30 seconds to 1 minute is more than enough to get the oil circulating and coating what it needs to...from engine oil to transmission oil.

and, you shouldn't push the engine until the temp gauge has reached operating temp...this is not just for the oil's sake but for the expansion of the cylinder walls and pistons as they reach their 'normal shape'. anything sooner and you run the risk of scoring the cylinder walls and wearing the piston rings further as they are dissimilar shapes. this is what causes the most engine wear on cold start-up.

I totally agree that oil reaches the top within a few seconds (I believe its more like 1 second really.

I'm just of the position that idling the car really doesn't harm the car, so why not just wait a few minutes.

I also agree that pushing the engine too soon is not good. But hitting 4,000 RPMs isn't what I consider pushing the engine. I never hit more than 4,000 until the car is fully warmed up. And no more than 3,000 until the temp gauge has started moving.

Confidence is higher with synthetic though.

it harms our climate, it couldget you a ticket (anti-idling bylaws) and is bad for the fuel economy.. the engine is in 'open loop' mode (damnit i swear i explained this sowmhere already.. lol found it (http://torontomazda3.ca/forum/showthread.php?p=58763&highlight=open+closed+loop#post58763)) so it gets no feedback from the sensors and the engine is running RICH 'wasting' more fuel..

Wow.. this is really shooting down the whole car-starter idea! WOW! wastes fuel.... doesnt save engine.... can get a ticket.... ruin the environment....etc. So the only adv to the starter is the fact that I can come out to a warm car..... Interesting.
