alright.. so i got pissed :) and i'm making the ONE and ONLY fuel economy thread.. don't like it? bite me.. there's NO point in going over the same stuff in various threads.. over time i'll compile some articles and information and post it up here.. for now just some rules :)

i'm not being a nazi BUT with mpgs (UK and US) L/100 and km/L as well as filling up when the light comes on vs driving on fumes and then filling, it will be MUCH easier for you to assess your fuel economy when comparing with others'.

rules to follow and this work is 'under way'

THE RULES

use the following format when posting about YOUR fuel economy

Year: [2004 | 2005 | 2006 | 2007]
Engine: [2.0L | 2.3L | 2.3L DISI]
Performance Parts: [ intake (or filter)] [ headers ] [ exhaust ]
Driving Style: [ granny | normal | spirited | red line from stop to stop]
Driving Type: XX% city, YY% hwy^
*Light went on at (if at all):
*Kilometers since last fill: ZZZ km
*Liters filled: WW L
Mileage:

For your help, below are quick conversion links

L to US gal (http://www.google.ca/search?hl=en&q=1+L+in+gal)
US gal in L (http://www.google.ca/search?hl=en&q=US+gal+in+L)
L in UK gal (http://www.google.ca/search?hl=en&q=1+L+in+uk+gal)
UK gal in L (http://www.google.ca/search?hl=en&q=UK+gal+in+L)

L/100km in mpg (http://www.google.ca/search?hl=en&q=8L%2F100km+in+mpg)
mpg in L/100km (http://www.google.ca/search?hl=en&q=30+mpg+in+L%2F100km)

* These can be omitted if you provide the value for mileage.
^ I would classify any trip ~ 5km to be city driving as well as stop 'n go traffic on the highway. Highway driving would then be the same as driving consistently at ~70kph+ with infrequent stops.

Hey majic...good idea one thread for gas mileage.
Think you should add "transmission" to the RULES...4 or 5spd ATX or 5spdMTX
Nice site!

What brand of gas is everyone using btw and what grade?

I think that's also important with doing this spreadsheet. 91 or 94 octane will improve your gas mileage dramtically.

Mine is guzzling so much!! My last fill up gave me a 12.2L/100KM I usually get on average 9-10L. I have to change my driving habits or unless it is because 90% of the time, I commute locally and the goes and stops kill my gas. Have I broken the record or has someone gone higher?

Broke a freakin personal record last night coming back from SSM. Filled up in the Sault, drove back via 17, 69, 400, 401. I made it from the Sault to the Petro Can on the 400 in Innisfil on 1 tank. Grand total of 614.8 km on a single tank of gas! I had the cruise set at 105 km/hr on 17, and 110 km/hr on 69/400 down to Innisfil; and I peddled it 130 km/hr from Innisfil to Scarborough.

I couldn't believe it! I thought no bloody way can my car get the mileage I hear other people getting but I did! I usually get about 450 km/ full tank (1/2 city; 1/2 DVP at rush hour).

the problem is the 95% city...i'm not quite at 12.2 L/100 km, i tend to average 10.2 around the city (100% city driving). I try to avoid driving at peak hours because it's a lot more stop/start traffic, and that really chews up fuel. I'm lucky in that regard, since I have flex hours at work, I tend to be on the road to work at 7:30 am and on the way back by 4 or 4:30, which avoids most of the nastier traffic.

Avg fuel economy for the above test (112.3km of 100% city driving, with a drive up a steep parking ramp every morning from an engine that has been started cold and allowed to warm up to 1100rpm) = 10.65L/100km

Measured at the pump (trip computer is wayyyy off at like 13L/100km). I expected worse figures, so I think that the above number is acceptable, and could be better if I practiced better fuel economy driving techniques.

I bought my mazda3 sedan a week ago and it went 240 km with half a tank. comparing this to my friend who got a 2002 protoge hatchback and that went 300km with half tank. reading the earlier posts i should be getting somewhere around 300kms too. so i am not sure if this is cause my car was at the dealership for a while and will improve in time or i should get it checked. fyi i am not a rash driver i take my time and dont floor my gas.

AVG fuel economy: 7.54L/100km or 31.3mpg. This from driving 100 - 110, occasionally 120km/h on the highway. Very pleased with the result, and I'm thinking that my car likes Shell gas better.

you guys should sign up for Fuelly.com. It does all the calculations for me and i can enter in the info @ the pump from my blackberry... I don't bother keeping my excel spreadsheet anymore :P

I just got my Mazda3, so I don't have any stats on it as yet...

I do both. Fuelly is good but I don't like how it rounds up. I like seeing more decimal places and being able to customize things that Fuelly can't do. However for some quick tracking it works well.

This is easily the best mileage I've gotten on a pretty much all-highway drive.
This was the route Hwy 401--->115--->Hwy 7--->417 for 389km. The trip computer read 6.6L/100km but real world calculations revealed it was 6.06 L/100km.
Mixed driving always gets me between 8-9L/100km

I get the worsttttt mileage, I'm going to start calculating my L/km, but just as a rough number I've been consistently filling up (from light going on to full, approx 50L?) and tracking the mileage, I get about 350-420 KM per tank:S. Mix of 50/50 highway and city I'd say.... Kinda depressing lol. Getting close to an oil change too, so maybe thats why?
