Are there any issues having warranty work done in Toronto on cars bought in the US?

Nope, as long as the car has a legit VIN# there is no issue.

Cool. I've been doing some lookin' and if you import the top model MSP3 from the US with the nav system and homelink mirror, the price is almost identical to buying the car here with no homelink mirror.

So the only difference ends up being the financing rates. Mazda offers 5.9% and I don't think I can do any better than 7% through the bank.

The difference ends up being somewhat trivial considering I'd get the nav system pretty much for free.

have you factored in the import fee's and associated taxes?

Yep.

By my calculation, the car will cost $36645 with the nav system and homelink mirror imported from the States.

It's $36730 if you buy it here with no options.

That's still close enough that I'd buy it here........ I'd think you may get a little more "wiggle room" with the warranty at a good dealer if you bought the car there as well....... I think the sweet spot for me would be about $4k to $5k savings.

If you do go ahead with it though, keep us informed as to the progress. I'd really like to hear how it goes :)

It's not the money savings I'm interested in. If that was it, I'd agree with you and buy it here.

I'm interested in getting the leather bolsters and nav system that aren't available here.

Not only would I get them, but I'd practically get them for free.

don't forget the ~6% duty since the speed3 is made in japan.

another car you may want to look into is the Subaru Legacy GT which is an approx. $10,000 savings buying from the USA (ends up being a smidge cheaper than the speed3). and the WRX STI lists for something like $31k down there.

Yeah, I included the 6.1% duty, applied before taxes.

Legacy GT wagon starts at $30,895 USD. STI starts at $33,495. Both thousands more than the MSP3.

They just make the Mazda even more attractive. :)

the subie dealer in Rochester will sell for invoice + $500. the LGT sedan works out to $27k USD, can't remember the invoice on the STI.

sh1t, i remember when it was better for americans to buy cars up here and import them into the US :)
