"Forum Contains New Posts" Notification

I noticed that a lot of the icons on the main index indicate that the forum has new posts even though there has been nothing new since the last time I visited. For example, the icon shows that there are new posts in the "Body Shops" forum, however, the last post in there was on Dec. 27. I last visited the board yesterday night (Dec. 29).

Does the board software consider anything I haven't read as "new"?
