W.T.F is this... Cop who is DRUNK.. Kills a man with his car, then drives away... gets house arrest!!!!!!!!!!

If that was anyone else they would be locked up for a couple years, lose their liscense....they would problably never get insurance again anyway...

And what about that COP who killed those youngsters last week when he crossed into their lane.. All you hear about is what a great guy he was blah blah blah... he was Drunk too!!! You don't hear a thing about the poor young guys he murdered with his car.

Bullshit. COPS who break the law should be dealt with more harshly than normal. Not treated as they are above the law! AssH*L@S

That guy last week was drunk???

I never heard that in all the news!

If that's true... then I saw he deserved what he got. I have no compassion whatsoever for drunk drivers, especially so when they hurt others!

Offing themselves just gets them off the roads so they're safer for the rest of us. Hurting other people is unforgivable.

haven't heard this story,
but if it is as sabio reports,
book that cop for MORE than a house arrest, IMO

They do get treated more harshly than normal. It's called the Police Services Act. Very different from the Criminal Code.

And as far as that accident in Richmond Hill goes, let's see how the investigation plays out. I highly doubt that the cop killed them. He was in an accident. My buddy on York knew him. He said it wasn't very likely that drugs/alcohol were involved (at least, on the part of the cop). Time will tell about the 3 kids.

Of course, I haven't heard any new news about the alcohol factor on the cop's part. If the facts have been released, well, that's a whole different story.

....Cst. Martin Sloper made a living enforcing the law, but he broke it on a rainy September night in 2004 when he hit a man with his car and foolishly sped away from the scene....

...A judge sentenced the Toronto police officer to a conditional sentence of two years less a day, meaning he'll serve 12 months of house arrest ...

..

..evidence at the trial that Sloper's neighbour called police about the damaged car in his driveway. An officer later spotted his vehicle in an auto shop. .....

He tried to get away with it...

The officer admitted he had a few beers earlier, but because he fled the scene it couldn't be determined if alcohol was a factor. ...

Of course he fled..he was drunk!!
So this cop murders someone and got off scott free.

I remember that story, it happened on Queen Street near Carlaw. The victim was hit at night time. And I recall that it was an accident, but the officer did a hit-and-run. This story was in the Star last month.

I hadn't heard of this before... but if it is like you wrote... thats garbage...

I have never had a positive experience with the police. I am not talking about being pulled over. I am talking about basic communication I have had not related to driving.

Sabio -

I did a search (the officer's name is Martin Sloper) and found absolutely no reference to him drinking at all in the incident.

What exactly is your source for this information??

I think he was referring to the one that died last week.

He was convicted, will serve a year of house arrest, and can't drive for 3 years, plus some community service. How is that not punishment?

I want to know the name of your source that says the 28 year-old York cop that "killed" those kids last week was drunk too. I'd be willing to put all my money on the fact that your source doesn't have the right facts. Or that he gets his facts from a "reputable" news source like CityTV.

i tend to agree with you sabs,

i think that if it was you or me, sober or drunk, killing someone and then running and hiding, we would get worse than house arrest community service and a bus pass.

hell if you insult a cop you may get worse than that!

lol
