could a mod sticky this? or move it to whatever section they deem appropriate

i guess this will be my first official club committee task...

anyways, before i go ahead and start booking things and so on, and putting the monies aside...i thought i would guage the intrest of this club to actually see if it is worthwile for me to organize this...

Last year i kinda took controll of the c7 fall tour cruise for us with a small impromptu bbq at the end, it went off with great success.

This year I will be hosting a spring starter bbq to kick off the 2007 season. Most of what id like to include i have already planned out in my head.

Now here is the big question, which is really the decider, Im only guaging intrest at this point to see if the memebrs are willing to travell to Cambridge Ontario to attend this, as the attendance will make or break this event.

Ill do my best to provide food and drink for everyone, and yes this will be a family friendly day, so bring the kiddies if you will.

I have a location in mind (riverside park) which you can actually reserve picnic areas (some host up to 150ppl) Phonecalls to the city of cambridge have not been made at this point to see what the fee's for rental are yet.

Date will obviously be selected later on, im leaning towards a sunday preferrably. Im just trying to see what im getting myself into with who would be willing to come, as if not many people will come, i can move to a smaller location.

So leats hear your thoughts people who is willing to drive to teh far far wesside for some grub (and small trivial activities)

Also a 50/50 draw will be done for this event. I will have a roll of tickets out in the GTA once we finalize that this event will actually happen, and it will be drawn the day of. Proceeds will go back directly into the club. I am not profitting from it whatsoever to cover costs.

There will also be other people other than the club (i.e some of my friends and co workers who may also attend)

I used to go to U of Waterloo :P Going to Cambridge would be alright? What time are you thinking of? How big of a BBQ!

bubba1983
01-29-2007, 06:50 PM
how big depends on how many are willing to come by.
im prolly going to shoot for the noon-2am timeslot, jus so people can be back at a somewhat reasonable time on a sunday night?

I'm willing to make the trip.

Broli
01-29-2007, 07:24 PM
i am willing to make the trip also!

bubbs, i think you are safer to sell tickets that cover food and entrance
that way you are assured to get you loot back, if you do a 50/50 and not enough people buy tickets you are SOL!

certainly some of us would be happy to help you recoup costs should that happen, however better to avoid it if we can!

what do you think?

we could still have a 50/50 draw winner selected at your bbq, but it could be the general 50/50 draw that we are talking about?

either way, i am their bro, as long as it is a day i can make!

bubba1983

Broli
01-29-2007, 07:43 PM
I dont think that you are trying to profit, i hope that is not what you thought!

i just don't want you to be down lots of money because of this! expecially when if can be avoided!

the food is not likely to be too much, but the rental of the park, may be costly!!

Propose a day and have people pre-pay to an admin or something. Then the money thing won't be that much of an issue.

update
called the city of cambridge today for fee's on renting the picnic area...

its a totall joke...$19.73 for a resident of cambridge, double for outisders, ahah so cheap!!!
thank god the g/f lives in cambridge!!!
woohoo

judging by the weather trends from last year
http://www.theweathernetwork.com/weather/stats/pages/C01996.htm

im leaning towards a late april or early may event. With a slight possibility of a late may. I will avoid the may 24 all together, for obvious reasons. Most of june on is booked for picnic area june onward already, the lady said that the spring months i should be ok.

Kevin@nextmod
01-30-2007, 04:19 PM
Will it be better if we set 2 dates? Just in case it rains we can have a back up? Unless we have a back up thing we can do.

bubba1983
01-30-2007, 06:04 PM
the weather is certainly a thing to be weary about...
i can try to book 2 diff weekends if need be (pending avail). i can call the city of cambridge again to see if, and/or there is a cancellation fee of a booking (which i highly doubt there is, even so, i really don't care) so i can tentatively have 2 weekends booked if need be!

bubba1983
01-31-2007, 08:15 AM
apon some further 2nd thinking...having a seperate 50/50 draw will be useless for this....as you guys already want to start a 50/50 draw and so on...it would render itself useless to have 2 of them, so i retract the 50/50 draw from this event....

but i still have some tricks up my sleeve...

Broli
01-31-2007, 08:28 AM
hey bubbs, does the park have a undercover area (basically a covered area with picinic tables under it)

could be good if it rains

bubba1983
01-31-2007, 08:41 AM
they have a few gazebo's, thats about it, nothing liek outdoor tent/ish wiht tables underneath
id like a site with a gazebo personally , for food reasons and such...

Broli
01-31-2007, 09:02 AM
good thinking bro
you seem to have all the angles in mind!

sure to be a great event with you at the wheel!

bubba1983
02-01-2007, 08:05 AM
k so after jsut a few days, i tink its safe to say that for a majourity sake its worth wile for me to go ahead with thie bbq, as it seems it will draw a respectable amount of people...

step 2 is to hammer down a date, as i will need to book the site a.s.a.p

couple dates in mine would be
April 29th
May 6th
may 13th

i havn't called to see if these are available yet, just trying to see what works for the majourity of people, and based of that decision, i shall book a date. i don't want to let this deliberate on for too long, as things need to get booked!

EDIT: little did i realize, the 13th i believe is mothers day, so kiss that one goodbye out the window...
the last weekend in may i also can't do, as i have a wedding on the saturday to attend...and the last thing id want to do after a wedding is a bbq, lol, so i guess we're stuck wiht april 29th or may 6th? unless if the majourity preferrs earlier in april, in which case you start to gamble wiht the weather?

Broli
02-01-2007, 08:49 AM
april 29th would be the last weekend of april, and therefore coincide with our monthly meet. If your bbq was the official meet for the month of april, that might also help to get people to show and would be something different than the usual!!!

if it is not on the april 29th date, than another meet one week after an official meet, may not get as many people, which leaves the 13th as a better potential date.

just wanted to throw the info out to ya bro!

i will be look at this thread to see the date, so i can try to get it off from work

bubba1983
02-01-2007, 08:51 AM
never dawned on me about the april meet...
hmm, timing is shitty....
unless the majourity won't mind comign to cambridge for a monthly meet for somethign otu fo the ordinary?

night shift owns me, its bedtime here, shall check this when i awaken!

First of all thanks Bubba for doing this! I read about the cruise event last summer and seems like it went great.

Just one comment though...I remember having a BBQ at the end of April once and it was pretty darn cold. Although the groundhog said we have early spring, but it seems like the weather is kind of "delayed". Maybe sometime in May would be a better idea. Then we can go do more outdoor stuff and enjoy the weather. Just my 2 cent.. tell me what you think.

anyone else down with a little show and shine action?

here are some ideas to make it interesting -

why dont we either get a few prizes together - im sure we can contact some of our sponsers for a little something something - and or everyone puts in 5-10 bucks and winner takes all -

we will have to nominate 2 judges and the cleanest ride takes it all?

what you think?

Broli
02-05-2007, 09:52 AM
i like a show and shine idea, i dont know if we can do better than certificates and little prizes for such an event, as we have the inter-club meet coming up in montreal this july, and would hope to use our "please help me cards" with the sponsors at that time.

dave, did you read the first post at all???
Riverside Park.

i still have to call to book the dates if avail.
i know april is sketchy, but as ive pointed out, the dates in may won't be any good, as a previously said, june onward is pretty much booked up.
SO it leaves me no choice wiht these 2 dates.

My intent was to not have a show and shine, as my intent was to have a no brainer day of a bbq, and fun (i have some ideas in mind, and some tricks up my sleeve)
Also the park area really isn't setup for show and shine, due to the parking structure. But if you guys want that, then im sure someone will organize it....just not me.

Broli
02-05-2007, 12:50 PM

is there a good photo op place in the park?

lol, we need a bbq start time!

but for things such as this we generally have 2 premeets

don mills and steeles timmies in the east
dixie and aimco timmies in the west

eastsiders would meet a bit earlier and then cruise to meet the westsiders at dixie and aimco!

since we are going so far west, perhaps one more stop off of the 401 would be acceptable to catch the further west living people (we would need to see how many of them there are and where they would be willing to meet us)

So April 29th eh?

Might be a bit of a crapshoot for me on which car I can bring. I asked for my 3 to show up for early May but was told I'll likely get it toward the end of April.

Of course, I'll probably just bring the Sunfire anyway. It would seem more appropriate at this time... :D
