I built a pretty big koi pond for my parents a few years back.
Got 6 koi that are getting pretty big now!
and dozens and dozens of goldfish that keep multiplying.

I think the koi have possibly mated too, or mated with the
goldfish if that's at all possible, 'cause some new small fish
are looking kinda like a bit of both!

they hibernate! as long as the pond is over 2 1/2 feet deep, (mine's about 4' in the centre),and the ice dosen't completely cover the top, they're ok!
I've had it about 3-4 yrs now.

you just need a small hole in the ice for O2/ CO2 exchange so the fish can "breathe"

Yeah, me too.

She saw the camera, and just sat there, statue-like, for like a good 5 min while I was snapping away. Like a born model.

sorry about the thread jacking but quick question.. on average, how much do you think it would cost to take care of a small dog (besides the normal food, toys, treats, and training)?? I want to get a dog sometime in the future (probably won't be for at least a few years) but I just want to get an idea of the costs.. I know vet bills are usually expensive but what are we looking at here for normal check ups (which I know not everybody does)??

"Sadie" is a German Pincher (mostly we believe!) She was rescued from Katrina, adopted her from the Cambridge Humaine Society a few years back

i pay 60 dollers for a check up and to get a puppy fixed its 200 dollers but you dont have to worry about that till they are like 5 6 months its not alot like after they get there shots you only see a vet every year so its a good price.

thanks.. so it doesn't seem too bad until they get sick (heaven forbid this should ever happen)..

my only pets are fishes :chuckle

my striped raphael catfish, who sometimes plays dead, won't eat for days. and then there's some tiger barbs that makes me worry everytime I go away for a long weekend because everytime I come back, 1 of them becomes dinner to the other tiger barbs. they're now down to more than half their original count. 1 rainbow shark that committed suicide.

What kind of problems has he had?
The average cost for dogs (vaccines, vet visits, bloodwork etc) is about $400/year (assuming no illnesses), cats are about $100 less.

Major surgeries (trauma, etc) - $2000++

Insurance is a GREAT idea as well - some will cover routine visits as well

(Will post some pics of my pups soon)

Very cool pets Drew!

I had 2 Lovebirds for a few years.. sadly this past summer i had them outside in the balcony (im on the ground level) and i had gone out, when i came home i found some animal had swiped at their cage (i'm guessing a racoon or a cat) and basically ate them :(

question for you cat owners, i have 2 cats at my other house DT and when i look at other people pics with their cats it seems like there are no hair anywhere...my 2 cats sheds like no tomorrow is there a way to control that or is it just unavoidable. I plan to get another cat when i move into a condo but I just dont want the place to be covered in hair even after i clean the place...help

Our coats, clothes, couches, pretty much everything in our house...We have to vacumn A LOT but its never ending, now with a golden retriever, its only getting worse. There is no way to stop it :)

One of ours does that too. she's caught some in mid air too. She was a stray rescued by the SPCA, we adopted her 7 years ago. Whisper is her name.

And Anakin a.k.a. The Red Menace. He's 3 and a half. Adopted as a kitten from a co-worker. He's a big boy now, over 15 lbs. And he likes to let the treats bounce off his head too.

What kind of problems has he had?
The average cost for dogs (vaccines, vet visits, bloodwork etc) is about $400/year (assuming no illnesses), cats are about $100 less.

Major surgeries (trauma, etc) - $2000++

Insurance is a GREAT idea as well - some will cover routine visits as well

Sorry about that bro. He tries to act all big and bad but just nudge him away and he'll go away. He doesn't really bite, he just nibbles. Usually he's a lot more chill but you should've seen him in his prime...oh man you'd be alot more terrified.

We bought him as a Pom-Spitz mix. I saved him from PJ's pet center, he was one of the pets that they had kept in the back because he was already too big for the display. Cost me $170, much less than the $1,000+ they were asking when I first saw him.

wow doesnt look like a pomeranian mix. Looks exactly like my dog but smaller lol. American Eskimos are part of the spitz dog family though, so maybe thats why. still looks like a mini-american eskimo :P

I have to give her up because my GF parent's want to put a pool in the backyard and they don't have the room for her.

I don't have any other place that will provide room or I would keep her. It kind of breaks my heart but what can you do. I rather see her with lots of room and happy.

She has been fed a top quality food blend (where corn/starch is not within the first 5 ingredients) and has had all her shots up to date. She's also just had a wellness test done as is in perfect condition.

If anyone is interested, please PM. Unfortunately she does not come free. I need to rectify some of the costs.

That's horrible :( I always get so mad when people give up their pets because, "their new apartment doesn't want pets" for example... ugh why get a pet in the first place? People don't just dump their children on the curb if they want to move into an "adults only" condo!!! bah!!! haha nothing against you, Phillie86, I just see it too often and have adopted too many abandoned animals, it just breaks my heart... but at least she's still really really young, I hope you find a really good home for her

I love German Shepherds and huskies! Is he a siberian? I heard huskies were crazy diggers, is that true? I had four German Shepherds (at once) in Europe, they are so loyal it isn't even funny. Too smart also.... but they used to use their intelligence to cause trouble mostly...... :complain

they are if you touch them. if kept in captivity they aren't that poisonous since they dont get to eat the fire ants they get their poison from. the golden poison dart frogs are the deadliest animal on earth. you touch it in the wild, you will die. we almost got to foster some but we said no.

i just wanted a blue animal. and the blue panther chameleons go for almost 1000 for a really nice one so it was cheaper for the frogs. and like i mentionned if they are captive bread and kept captive they are not as poisoneous.

They are 2 different ones. The bottom one is afraid of everything but getting better. Ad the top one is super freindly helps me work on the car in the garage by getting in the way and keeping me company haha.

That's the first time I have tried it with that cat, she is crazy though if she knows what cupboard the treats are in she will break in.. even if it's tied shut and or children locked. Even if its the cupboard above the stove too!

My cat just waits patiently lol all he ever wants is a lap to sit on.

1 6.5 Foot Yellow anaconda (unfortunately I have to sell PM me if interested)

1 7 Foot Colombian Boa Constrictor
1 2 Foot Argentinean Black and Gold Tegu (lizard)

Thats cool I miss my 220 Gal reef. When I buy my next house (as it will prob be the last one I ever buy) I am going to set up a 500+ gal. For now I have my 45 gal Bimac Octopus tank With a 25 Gal sump and a few freshwater tanks.

He is the progeny of a French gigolo and a Scottish whore. His entire agenda is 16 hrs of sleep per day, interspersed with 8 hours of chaos and mayhem; just ask the four cats that are velcroed to the ceiling for about 2 of those waking hours, the coons clinging to my satellite dish, the rabbits up in the cedars, and the chipmunk balancing on one foot atop my truck antenna for the other 6.

I took this picture because randomly at night he started to run at the window and follow something back and forth. I live in a forest so i couldnt see what he was seeing cuz it was pitch black but it was probably a little animal or another cat or even coyotes (a lot of them around here). He does it every night, its kinda creepy!
