So I turn on my TV and turn to channel 48. I see some old black and white movie and figure, oh it's the lost drive in. I wonder why its on so early in the night. Several hourse later I see the commercials finally and notice some wierd channel commercials I haven't seen before. I go to the Roger's site to see where SpeedTV went, and well, its now digital TV which means I don't get it.

WHYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYY???

lol, I go to school here in T.O. while here I live in a house with 5 other people, and we aren't looking to upgrade our cable because we're poor.

Oh well, I've got discovery and spike. Plus torrents are my friend.

When I got home I'm back to xpressvu, but I mean still.

WHYYYYYY?

It's 9.99 to rent the box per month. Other then that you're basic cable pkg stays the same.

3GFX

lmao 9 dollars a month for the next 2 months? not worth the hastle and its just a money grab. I'd rather put that 18 dollars into an axela badge or somethin.

Chiburashka

Give Rogers a call and complain how Speed has been switched to Digital, they'll offer you a digital box for free and the Speed channel for free for the next year. I know several people who have been offered this deal ;-)

I live in Markham and still have the speed channel.. They switched a few of the channels around. They also switched The Score from 72 to 44.

AHHH!! No wonder!
It's not Rogers! Some punk probably just stole the channel from you!

Actually I kinda like my neighborhood, its not as bad as everyone thinks. Of course like 2 streets over there's a park where people get shot, but honestly my block is very nice.

Hadn't even notice that speed channel has changed. Meh, alot of redneck racing on there anyways, like you said - Nascar, outlaws and truck series.

I checked last night as well, for me the Speed channel moved from 46 to 43. I have digital cable though.

Rogers claims that not a lot of people watch "Speed", "CNBC" & "BET". Therefore, the management decided to move them in the Digital and replace the analog channel with some oldies Movie Networks.

What a load of crap, Roger's goal is to get everyone to have a digital box so slowly they will be moving all the specialty channels to digital. In a few years the only channels available without a box will be just the main network channels (cbc, ctv, abc, nbc etc)

Wild Weasel
02-08-2007, 12:02 PM
Actually... as I understand it the goal isn't to slowly move them... it's to suddenly demand them.

I was told they will stop broadcasting analogue video entirely sometime in the near future. Then it'll be more like Satellite, where every tv needs a box.

I wonder if there's some sort of standard to the digital signal? Can you get boxes other than the Scientific Atlanta boxes Rogers sells that will decode the signal?

majic

just get OTA HD channels for free ;)

Nope. Even Scientific Atlanta boxes bought from the US or other Cdn providers (Shaw, Videotron etc) won't work.

just get OTA HD channels for free ;)

And have you looked into the cost of getting these "free" channels? I haven't... but it's my understanding that you need a little more than a set of rabbit ears on your set to pull them in.

It all depends on how far you live from the transmitters

majic
02-08-2007, 03:34 PM
and of course you need an atsc tuner (some teevees will come with it but most won't due to the added costs)

Wild Weasel
02-08-2007, 04:25 PM
That's true too. Only one of my 2 high-def TV's has an ATSC tuner in it, and the last old TV I've got would be reduced to only getting whatever regular OTA channels are available.

And with all that, I still wouldn't get SPEED. :(

Nope... cable or satellite is really the only viable option these days.

Especially if you're a hockey fan. :) TSN... Sportsnet... Leafs*coughscamcough*TV...
