I hate to use the H word here, but I need some advice on a 2001 Honda Civic problem. My GF has an 01 Civic LX, with what else but leaky struts. Needs all 4 corners replaced. The Honda dealership wants $900+ for parts and labour; and parts are OE. She got a quote from her bro's mechanic who wants $1100 parts and labour; but parts are 'upgraded'.
^^^ BOOOO! :(
I can source Tokico's for $520 tax in, but the mechanic doesn't want to install parts he doesn't endorse.
Some questions; is $520 a decent price for Tokico's? What should labour from a licensed mechanic cost for strut installation/swap? Anyone know a decent place for Honda work in Scarborough? I was thinking about Speedtech, but we are looking for some options?
Thanks,
Jason

The price of the shocks i don't know. But it shouldn't cost that much to install them. However much they charge to swap spring is however much they will charge for swapping shocks. Maybe just $10-20 more. I'd say MAX $150 for labor.
Speedtech is a good place to do honda stuff, and i'd also recommend N1 auto, another place is motor workshop. They are really professional in honda stuff as they always have honda civics there.

Let me know the VIN # for the Civic I can hook you up with the OEM parts for cheap.
As pearly mentioned Speedtech and Motor Workshop can do the install for a decent price.

Well aint that great news, at least there is aftermarket sturts after all for the 7th gen civic...Koni was the only option and it was a gas cartridge insert bullshit!!!!!
from what i know...its all about OEM struts or nothing, which are usaully shit quality...
since Mr. Flipseed has hookups to Speedtech, I would suggest inquring with them in gettin a quote for aftermarket shocks...
who knows maybe by getting both aftermarket shocks and install may save you some dollar billz yo!
I only had experience with the Tokico Ilumina series, its an adjustable shock but really good when I had drivin these particular Honda made cars..
with Tokico blues, kinda didnt really like them, if there is an option for KYB GR2 then I would take those over the Tokico Blues.
good luck on your search

Yeah they kick ass but hell no am I paying nearly $900 for a friggin cartridge....
so IMO for 7th gen Koni is bullshit, until they can actually make a whole strut unit then I take them off the list of aftermarket struts option
heck everytime someone asks me for suspension advice, its all about full-coilovers for the 7th gen civic...
