Raptors win, Raptors win, Raptors win!
What a great game. Full of defensive intensity, good playoff style ball, focused and played hard.
Old Pop is gonna have to get that 1000th win some other day.

lol yea, definitely very uncharacteristic of Timmy. I'm guessing it was just misunderstanding between him and Ginobli maybe, since it looks like maybe the play called for Ginobli to keep curling around that 3-point line, but he seemed to stop a bit earlier. Or just didn't get there in time. Or a rare occurrence of Timmy just mis-judging the spot he wanted to throw to lol

Ginobli must have ran out of gas from running on the play before lol, plus Demar banged his knee.

No talks on the Skills competition?
curry is a beast, just proving how good of a shooter he was. Lavine probably stole the show tonight though. Actually a pretty decent dunk contest for the most part of the last 5 or 6 years.

I'm just gonna say it; Lowry will be a boring addition to the ASG. I'm happy he made it, but he is not as electric as Wade.

That time of year.... we all hear the trade rumors. Masai Ujiri wants to add a veteran big man... but how? Through trade? Through the waiver wire?
Would you trade Terrence Ross to get David West?
http://www.prosportsdaily.com/Headlines/ExternalArticle?articleId=342020
How about Greg Monroe? Kenneth Faried? Wilson Chandler (as an upgrade over Ross)? Tobias Harris?
http://www.prosportsdaily.com/Headlines/ExternalArticle?articleId=341214
Taj Gibson's name has been thrown around as well.
These are all rumors obviously, but Masai has been eyeing to obtain a veteran big man for quite some time now......

02-17-2015, 12:43 PM
If Amar'e Stoudamire didn't commit to signing with Dallas, I would have hoped that Masai would take a crack at him.
For a guy we only need 15-20 mins a game from, I think it could have been a good fit.

Are you referring the David West rumour? I don't think MU will trade Ross now because his value is at an all-time low. He's young and has a lot of potential but I see Masai waiting for playoffs results before making offseason moves.
S.F.W.
02-17-2015, 02:38 PM
Raps have to be careful. I don't think they are a title contender yet, so giving away young assets for rental players is not a good idea. I don't think West's offensive game is a fit for the Raptors. He drives offense out of a mid range game, same place most of the Raptors operate.
Faried would be a great add. Upgrade over Amir, and signed for four more years.
The Wolf
02-17-2015, 10:37 PM
I'd gladly part with Ross for Faried. Never trade Amir though.
sp3GT
02-17-2015, 11:23 PM
^Agreed, Faried is fairly young and we need an upgrade up front. Amir & PP aren't consistent enough.
If it happens, T Ross for Faried would be a steal for the Raps.
But at times I think, is T Ross only a shooter because he's been told by Casey to be a 3pt shooter?

Playoffs?
Yessir. Round 1, Game 1.
Disappointing. Battle back with a great early 4th, somehow managed to tie it up, and then completely lost focus in OT. Just didn't get the normal offensive output from our main guys either. Hopefully we bounce back for Game 2.

yeah OT was a letdown...they took their foot off the gas after tying it...they just couldn't rebound, too many second chance opportunities which the wiz took full advantage of. yet again it was our game to lose. well its its game 1 and the raps have never won one i think so forgot this and on to game 2. should be a much better effort i hope!

****ing Casey can't coach shit.
He's just a face to front a team that naturally plays well together.
There's no guidance. Stupid play decisions. And a waste of bench space.
Don't get me wrong. He's brought the team to higher levels, but his calls have been very questionable of late.
Raps need to play some real Skool yard type of ball. They're too scared to get inside - hence all the 3-balls.
We need JV to start grabbing the garbage and pushing it to JJ and PP more

Once again, T.Ross disappeared and JV was mediocre.
I really didn't understand why J.J didn't get some playing time. Casey uses Ross to stretch the defence, but he was struggling with his shot all game.
I think JJ should have got some run just from a defensive standpoint.
All in all, it was a pretty terrible game for both sides. If the raps don't make some significant changes in game 2, it'll be Wizards in 6.

Ross definitely has his strengths when playing well and all, but for the past few months now, I've always hated how much Casey sticks with Ross through his struggles and when it just seems like he'd be better off on the bench and letting someone like JJ fill in for him. His stubbornness to keep Ross on the floor in certain situations irritates me.

Just makes no sense to me.. JJ can guard literally any position on the floor and is very useful on the glass at both ends. He is also a big momentum changer when he comes in with either a dunk or block. Would have been useful in game 1, hoepfully he plays tonight
and on a side note, big shout out to lou will for winning 6ix man of the year..very deserving imo

Two reasons 1. He is not an outside shooter - with Washington crowding the paint, and making it hard for Demar, Lowry to get to the basket, they need someone that can shoot from longer range to help space the floor. 2. He does not pass enough. Raps offence is supposed to move the ball quickly. JJ does not do that, slow to read the Defense.

That's one of the biggest/only reasons I can see Casey's point of view in leaving Ross on instead of JJ...is that Ross spaces the floor out much more due to the long range shooting. But in my opinion, there's numerous times where that should be something you're willing to sacrifice with the things JJ can bring that Ross can't on a given night.

But Casey still sticks with Ross even if he continues to miss shots. Not just him but the entire team. And I agree. More ball movement=better shots. Casey should mix it up tomorrow.
If ticket prices drop like last Saturday, I'll probably go watch the Raps win tomorrow :)
I definitely think we'll be coming away with the W tomorrow.

I guess Casey also doesn't want to take big chances. Ross has proven himself more than JJ and in some ways is more trustworthy. JJ is a fan favourite because he has big moments such as big dunks & blocks. But JJ at times seems to be slow laterally when he's on defense and his shot selection sometimes isn't the best.

I agree and disagree. Shot selection?...nobody has worse shot selection than Ross lol and even when it comes to consistency, Ross still isn't the greatest in that department either. The thing with JJ is that he'll drive it and get to the heart of the defense much more willingly than Ross. In the last game where our inside presence was almost nonexistent, that would've helped. Instead of Ross just jacking shots.

Don't forget about letting fan-favorite GV go as well. I was a quite bummed out about GV and Amir's departure. But I'm quite excited with the new additions. It's nice to see that there's a strong and evident focus for once again being a defense-oriented team. We'll miss Lou's clutch shots and ability to carry the bench, but we also lose someone that jacked up a lot of (contested) shots, and not to mention his lack of defensive intensity.
I dunno about making claims for second round just yet, but assuming DD continues to grow over the off-season, and assuming the new additions can build good chemistry on the court, this could be a solid season.

JV went into ****ing beast mode tonite [emoji122]🏼
Definitely a slow start. Maybe you can chalk it up to first-game jitters, but the offense was atrocious especially in the first half. DD and Lowry got off to a very slow start, which definitely affected us. The defense at least seemed decent.
Lack of free throws made were a bit concerning though. You'd think jitters shouldn't play too much into that.
I liked what I saw from Carroll. Man when he went down in the first half though, that was a bit nerve-wracking. I was a bit disappointed with the play of Biyombo on the offensive end though. I get his primary use is for defensive purposes, but man he's gotta start making some of those shots within 5-10 feet of the bucket. I was extremely happy to see how JV was playing. Finally seems to have learned not to keep bringing the ball back down in catch-and-shoot situations. Wasn't hesitating as much with the ball like in the past, but didn't rush his shots either. His footwork around the basket looked better too.
Wasn't pretty, but we got the W. Something tells me that's how it'll be for a little bit towards the start of the season. Gonna be very different from last year's start, that's for sure.

I wasnt a fan of the Caroll deal - and when he went down - I was ****ing pissed. LOL
But in all honesty - as much as I love the Raps - they definitely don't look like playoff contenders. Maybe it's too early to tell, and hopefully I'm wrong - but I don't see them overcoming the more experienced teams.
They almost choked in the final 2 minutes again.... Against Pacers?!!
My god these refs have been screwing us all game. Three calls just on Lowry alone that made me wanna punch the screen.
And someone please teach Ross how to play basketball again. This guy has just not showed up for this season yet. Absolutely atrocious shooting tonight.
These god damn refs. Like seriously, cmon.
That no-call on Anthony stepping out of bounds late in the 4th killed us.

I think they want to make it "even" from that no call when lowry sort of dragged his foot = maybe travelling. But regardless, two wrongs don't make a right. That was a very bad call and very obvious call IMO. You could see Casey yelling at the ref for a good minute. Didn't see the first 3 quarters but this is a game they should have won considering we might get the Knicks pick next draft.

Maybe, but 1) like you said, two wrongs don't make a right 2) it was a much more influential call to the outcome of the game. A much bigger call than a travel on Lowry. Lowry got screwed with a couple no-calls earlier in the game too, so you could argue that they let him get away with the travel to make up for that. Or just plain old didn't notice it.
Definitely a very winnable game, just couldn't get enough stops down the stretch, and then that no-call on Anthony really just sealed up the win for them. Thats three straight losses now, before a lengthy road trip.

Derozan just posterized Gobert!
That was nasty! The post-impact finish was put down with some major authority.
Poor Raps :( getting killed with crucial blown/missed calls down the stretch of these games. But mostly due to the horrible starts in the first. This road trip is definitely a tough one for them this early in the seaosn.

Agreed. On the other hand, this is the Raps....playing to their competition...if there's any team that can lose to the Sixers and beat the Warriors, it's us. A win doubtful for tonight, but I wouldn't be totally surprised if they played with the Warriors to a tight game, or even by some odd way managed to win it. Should be a good game to watch regardless. Watching the Warriors this season has never been a letdown. Love watching Curry.

We all see on Facebook those various sites that entertain us with the re-draft of various sports from various years. I came across this one where as they did the re-draft of the 2009 NBA Draft.
http://basketball-players.pointafter.com/stories/5186/re-picking-2009-nba-draft-stephen-curry-james-harden-blake-griffin?utm_medium=social.paid&utm_source=facebook&utm_campaign=i1.sp.fb.dt.5186#1-Re-Draft-Takeaways
That year, we took DeMar DeRozan with the 9th pick.
1. Blake Griffin to the LA Clippers
2. Hasheem Thabeet to Memphis Grizzlies
3. James Harden to Oklahoma City Thunder
4. Tyreke Evans to Sacramento Kings
5. Ricky Rubio to Minnesota Timberwolves
6. Jonny Flynn to Minnesota Timberwolves
7. Stephen Curry to Golden State Warriors
8. Jordan Hill to New York Knicks
9. DeMar DeRozan to Toronto Raptors
This is how they re-drafted:
1. James Harden
2 Stephen Curry
3. Blake Griffin
4. Ty Lawson
5. Wesley Matthews
6. Taj Gibson
7. Jeff Teague
8. Brandon Jennings
9. Darren Collison
Thoughts?!?!?!?
So...that second list is what they'd do in current day, knowing how the players turned out? I don't agree with Curry not being #1, and I also don't agree with Jennings being on the list. As for me having DD off, also disagree. Sure he's in a slight bit of a slump right now, buy he started out the season much improved, and is still a very key factor in a lot of our games.

No clue why'd they would think about placing Curry at no.2 Unless their talking about those team needs during that year,
Matthews > Teague. If Matthews was 100% healthy, he'd be killing it. 10 3's the other night, he's getting there.
6-9 don't matter. Jennings was hella good when he first came into the league though. Collison had to play behind cp3.
Poor Gibson, just fell off so quick. great potential. Lawson is just... trouble.
Also, i'd have Demar at 6. But i just edited solely on that list they re-ordered.

WTF?
Honestly.......I don't even know. A few guys were just off. And with JV and Carroll out, that's tough to handle. That run towards the end of the 4th was nice. Then yet again for the millionth time, refs screw us. Like....I don't even understand how you can possibly be more deliberate on screwing the Raptors. They even took the time to review and discuss it. And still end up short changing us by least 1.5 seconds. Ridiculous. Just didn't have the energy/productivity to stay with it in OT

The "reasoning" was because unless the game clock runs down to 0, they can't review the time, which is really stupid. When I saw that ridiculous call, I immediately thought of that game against the then Charlotte Bobcats with a no call on Bargnani, which the NBA apologized for it. Waiting for the apology again lol
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ulcNajqtvJQ
So dumb honestly.
Every few games, refs are issuing an apology to the Raps for something. That doesn't do shit all for us. How about you just stop blatantly blowing calls live in the game and then you won't need to "apologize." As far as I know, there's no monetary "consolation" or anything that goes along with the apology. I believe hearing a few weeks ago that the Raptors actually lead the league in the number of apologies from the refs/NBA. Not hard to believe at all.

Are you kidding me? Irving with more votes than Lowry? And Kobe with that many votes? Jeez. In my opinion, each All Star game needs to be treated independently for the most part. Base it on how the guy has been playing in the current season.....or in the Irving vs Lowry case, IF he's been playing. Like cmon, that's just ridiculous.

I think we had two games scheduled last year or two years ago. One went through while the other game got cancelled (the one I booked against the Kings. Would have loved to see Boogie too). But yea that would be great. Playoffs? lol

It does actually. NBA knows that our fanbase is mostly people who grew up listening to his songs in the early 90s before basketball started becoming popular here ;)...
But expect Drake, our apparent "global ambassador", to show up somewhere in between or after. But hey, at least they didn't announce beiber, else we'll see a lot of beliebers at the game.

Caught the game last night. Closest I've ever sat. Was a pretty great experience considering I'm usually much much higher haha tons of Raptors fans at the game as well, as expected.
That long win streak we went on has really put us in a great spot, standings wise. Although I still don't see him making a huuuge impact, it'll be nice having Carroll back soon. Having DD and Lowry healthy has also helped.
Anyone think they're gonna shake things up before the trade deadline? Lots of rumors out there for different trades. I personally don't see them doing anything too significant, as I don't see a need for it.

Yeah from everyone who took part in the 2nd group buy that year.... because MLS over sold tickets, we either had the option to get tickets for another game (which some members got) or get a refund. The refund took a hell of a long time due to all the process and procedures they go through. Those who opted for the refund did get it in full, but took a hell of a long time.
The end result overall was a lawsuit made against MLS by the different groups who were affected by this.

Gotta love the Raptors (or any NBA) rumor mill................
The Raptors are interested in the Nets' Thaddeus Young - See more at: http://www.prosportsdaily.com/articles/the-raptors-are-interested-in-the-nets-thaddeus-young-395074.html#sthash.GNQgT6mJ.dpuf
As reported by ESPN's Brian Windhorst today on TSN Drive with Dave Naylor and Derek Taylor, the Raptors are apparently getting very aggressive on the trade market. Windhorst mentioned some names that we've heard before -- Markieff Morris (written about here) and Kenneth Faried (see every comment thread on this site, ever) -- but then also mentioned the Nets' Thad Young. Windhorst also asserted that the Raptors should look to go all-in now, citing the Cavs weird psyche and injury potential and the fact that this may be the best version of Kyle Lowry ever. It's hard to argue with the logic, even if it is still difficult to envision the Raps beating the Cavs four times out of seven.Thad Young, for his part, has been stuck in some bad situations in his career. Right now he's wasting away on a hopeless Nets team that should definitely look to trade him to recoup a draft pick (any draft pick). He's currently putting up averages of 15.2 points, 9.1 rebounds, 1.7 assists and 1.5 steals. Young is also shooting a tidy 51 percent from the field, and while his three point shooting has taken a huge dip (down to 22 percent) he has shot above 30 percent for stretches of his career. - See more at: http://www.prosportsdaily.com/articles/the-raptors-are-interested-in-the-nets-thaddeus-young-395074.html#sthash.GNQgT6mJ.dpuf

Morris no because a nut case. Faried doesn't fit our rotation and bad FT shooter lol. I believe he was overpaid. Young I'm hesitant to take him because though he's putting up good stats, he's playing in a bad team but among the three you mentioned, Young would be the only one I will take my chances in. He's been solid throughout the year though plus he's in my fantasy team so I root for him :)
I've read that any trade we make before deadline will involve Patterson, Cory and/or the NYK/DEN lottery pick. I prefer keeping Cory to keep that ball movement alive plus playoffs experience with Pops. I'd like to keep that pick so I'm willing to trade away Patterson plus our mid 20s pick and maybe one of our young guys. Bebe/Daniels/Powell
Edit: Nets are a joke lol. No own picks for the next 3-4 years is it?
I'd be extremely angry/disappointed if we tossed Cory out. He's been outstanding for us throughout the entire season thus far.

Don't think Masai would trade Cory. He promised us a Canadian player and right now he's the best one available. If anything he would give up one of our picks or our other young players.

Yea exactly. I haven't looked into it, but from what I recall, I think we have a bunch of picks to offer. And then a few young guards who don't really see much playing time anyway; so wouldn't mind giving those guys up too. But it obviously wouldn't be for much. I still don't think we're really gonna make any big moves. Maybe just shuffling around some picks.

Insaneeeeeee dunk competition! My goodness!
I was quite irritated by Shaq giving those two 9's on what should be been 10's both times. Like cmon man, what the hell. And the scoring for the last two dunks..I dunno about that. Gordon's should've gotten a 49/50. They both had some crazy dunks and definitely reignited the dunk competition in general in my opinion. But, I would have given it to Gordon. I think the creativity and variety of his dunks should've given him the edge to get the trophy.

With Markieff's attitude and contract, I would not want him on the Raptors. Gasol would have been nice, but at what price ? I heard Bulls wanted Joseph, Patterson, and Knicks 1st round pick. Would you gut your team for a rental player ?

I'm happy actually. I didn't see a need for it, and wouldn't have been happy screwing up the team chemistry for someone that wouldn't be that good, or getting rid of too many key players for someone that is "that" good.

I'm glad we didn't get Morris. I know a lot of people who are so HIGH on him but I'm not risking that for ruining the team's chemistry (I just don't get it). Wizards got him for a protected 1-9 pick, so right now the pick is at 12-13 which is pretty good. Based on that, I'm assuming PHO wanted the NY/DEN pick from us. I wouldn't give away that pick for Morris or a rental i.e. Horford without knowing if he's signing with us this offseason.
Now, let's hope we don't collapse like last season and finish strong and healthy. Hopefully, we get our SFs back before playoffs.

sorta like the blue jays did with david price. gasol as a rental has its pros and cons, but we can afford it with 4 first rounders coming up...
correct me if im wrong but i think we have (1 from newyork/denver 2016 + 1 from clippers in 2017), plus our 2 for each of those years still available.

Was score watching but watched a 10min. highlight video of the game. Just having Lebron spaces out the floor for the Cavs, allowing the defense to surround him, and allows him to pass to wide-open shooters. That was our kryptonite because no one in our team could guard him 1on1 except for DMC, who probably won't be back til mid-March. Skinny Klow carried the team for sure with an "ill" Debrick and glad they kept their confidence high by coming back from double digit leads. Big Bizness was amazing like how he was last time we played them. I think a healthy DMC and one of our two all-stars performing well could get us past the Cavs if we do meet them in ECF...One can dream lol

But in all honesty - as much as I love the Raps - they definitely don't look like playoff contenders. Maybe it's too early to tell, and hopefully I'm wrong - but I don't see them overcoming the more experienced teams.

An overhead shot showed some daylight between his foot and line. Either way, it was a big time needed shot right after 3 straight T Ross misses and a foul.
4th quarter was such an improvement in defense after 7 straight bad quarters, don't see them being consistent start to finish.

Demar DeChoke, DeFakeAllStar, DeBrick. Seriously, this guy doesn't do anything else on the court. Lowry isn't shooting well but doing other things. JV beast as usual. Bench has been consistent except for Ross. DD doesn't adjust his game and keeps doing the same thing over and over again and it's not working.
Casey as well doesn't adjust. Not calling timesouts at the right times, not benching players that are not doing well. No accountability.
Game7-I still hope we win but expectations are low. Still favoured to win by 7points ahah

It's not Casey's fault. If he benches Lowry and Derozen and we lose, he'll get called out. Now that we lost, he gets called out. Lose lose situation for him.
Our "all-stars" are the ones to blame.

If the Raps lose in 7, or even in the second round, what do you change to make the team better ?
if you let Derozan go, then you may as well trade Lowry and start again.
They need a consistent outside shooter to open up space for Derozan and Lowry.

I don't know if it's the coach's fault. There is something in the group or the culture that really doesn't bring out their best competitive nature under pressure.

Casey makes the call who's on the court and what plays they run. If your all stars aren't performing - and yet your bench does - what is the best plan of action? I don't know any Toronto fans that want to see DD and KL lose the playoffs for us. I rather see us advance than watch DD act like a little bitch and make excuses for why they choked at the end .
We all know DD chokes under pressure. He could've had the record for most consecutive free throws made - but choked on the last one that would've given him the title.

Get rid of Casey
Drop Lowry, DeRozan for some OGs that can help mentor Powell and Joseph (and get them more court time)
Bring up Bruno from the D-league to add some bigs to back up JV
make sure BB practices free throws for 20 hours a day every damn day. He's becoming the new hack-a-shaq
And truthfully...
We might as well rebuild.
As much as it pains me to say it - THERES NO WAY RAPS CAN WIN THE PLAYOFFS.
We can make it to 1st round - and MAYBE squeak into the second. But be honest - can you see them beating Miami or Charlotte next round... or even GS?
So what's the point? Who keeps a semi-decent team the way it is? Don't fool yourselves in saying "there's always next year" cause it's been the same story 3-years in a row....First round disappointments. Time to re-think the overall game plan

Yeah I'm in the rebuild-it camp. It's not that I want to defend Casey, but that I think the majority of the blame is on the players. Casey was right when he said we ride or die with DD and KL. Bench your all-stars and you'll never live it down. The pressure is on them to perform.
I don't know what the next right steps are. But something needs to change in our roster.

I think Demar is a flawed franchise player as SG. In the NBA now, a guard needs to be able to shoot the 3 well, or be a mediocre 3 point shooter, but a tenacious defender, and a good facilitator.
Demar can not shoot the 3, not able to regularly break guys down off the dribble, and is a terrible defender.
I still think the Raps will give him max money, because they realize they won't be able to sign a free agent star - not this year, or likely any year, so need to rely on home grown talent, or trades.
Maybe we can pull of a sign and trade.

Still hope they prove me wrong and get the win tonight.
But just know that I'm gonna pick on them HARD if they lose LOL

Good for Casey for sitting Demar. Shot not falling, not passing, get the hot hands in the game.

Love how they're bigging up Powell and Joseph now.
