Mo Pete is a bum , when are they going to trade this guy ? He comes out to games not expecting to play anymore and he SHOULD , cuase he sux. At least Martin accepts the fact that he will never see court time and cheers the team on. Everytime the camera is on Mo Pete he looks depressed ... give him some prozzack or something.
Why do we have Mo Pete ? He drives to the net like a pu$$y and cant shoot for sh!t. When he tries to sink a 3 ball, it doesnt go. But funny enough, when he doesn't try it goes in.
Mp3 downloads my ... ok , ill stop here . Just trade the loser .
Everygame i watch i get frustrated with the guy ><

he's a free agent at the end of the year. I would doubt he would be back. He is looking depressed, because through all the teams crap, and poor play, he was one of the few still working hard. Now the team is playing well, but he isn't getting any minutes. Add to that, he's in a contract year, and the Raps are killing his potential income.

NICE GAME by the RAPS.
They looked a little tired but they came out on top... 57.3 seconds to go.
Chuck brought out the Salami and Cheese...
Parker another solid game and Calderone had a nice game off the bench
BOOYAH!
oh and 7 players in double figures? damn... the depth on this team is amazing.

I love humpries interviews hahahaha and you can tell he likes giving them too --- pure jokes.
Parker/ Graham have really stepped it up these past few games. Too bad garbo is out cause this team would kick us fully healed/ well rested.

For the most part the chemistry on the team seems to be amazing right now, I hope when Andrea comes back it doesn't disrupt that in any way. I'm sure even if it did having him back would still be better, but they seem to be working so well together, especially the second unit led by Calderone!

I'm never going to react to injuries the way I used to! This years injuries have been blessings in disguise. They have forced different players to step up their games, making this a very deep team. I think this our depth will shine through in the playoffs. Imagine all our players healthy and firing on all cylinders?! This year is just the beginning!

I love what Mitchell does now with Tj and Calderone, TJ plays first half and then Calderone plays second ---- its amazing how much better the raps play in the second half (last two games especially).
Seeing this , i wonder if Mitchell is going to let Calderone start in the playoffs? I want him to, but i doubt he will . Calderone for Sixth man award !
TheProfessor
04-10-2007, 02:36 PM
Mitchell does it because Calderone is level headed and is able to get the team into their sweet spot in terms of play. Did you see the sheer amount of unnecessary dribbling TJ did in last nights game?
rsquared
04-10-2007, 04:15 PM
Ford and Calderon have entirely different games, but that's a good thing. Mitchell can insert whomever he wants depending on the style of play they need at any given time. TJ is super fast and has shown he can be a clutch performer. Granted he isn't quite there yet, but give him time. Jose is a seasoned vet who can control the tempo and ake smart plays.
RedRaptor
04-10-2007, 04:31 PM
I prefer Calderone because he is more patient, however he lacks the killer first step that T.J. has, especially that blow by last night and finishing it off with slam. They both aren't "there yet" but with some playoff experience and more situational game experience, they'll be very good NBA point guards. TJ wastes a lot of energy dribbling and breaking down the defence but he doesn't finish sometimes and just kicks it out.
I am also really happy to see the Raps take care of business the last 5 min of games now. It used to be that the Raps would choke during the dying moments of the game, but now after losing many close games last year they seem determined and poised to win. It all comes down to having confidence and making shots. With vets like Dixon, Parker and MoPete (not so much this year), the Raps have been able to get that bucket when the opposing team is making a run against them.
I would like to see Sam rest Bosh and TJ the next four games. They have played a lot of ball lately and need to be re-energized for the playoffs. Second seed is great in terms of stats, but I'd rather stay 3rd seed and play the Wizards with no Butler or Agent 0 than face the unpredictable VC who has something to prove. Not telling them to tank games, but no point in tiring out Bosh and TJ to grab 2nd seed, then face VC in the first round.

TheProfessor
04-14-2007, 12:21 AM
I'm very happy they won but it was practically a gift from Detroit. The entire fourth quarter was played by their second unit while the Raps had their first unit going. I don't blame Detroit for doing it as they got to rest their key players, but I don't think all the credit can go to the Raps. Humphries was just outstanding, and TJ played pretty good too.
SIM SIMMA
04-14-2007, 12:35 AM
Yeah a gift... but a win is a win in the eyes of the Raps and it only helps them by giving them confidence. At many points in the game they could have just given up as well but they want to go into the playoffs blazing...
I'm glad to see people like Graham and Humps step up. 18 reebs is huge! He also had 3 blocks... he was everywhere... that's what we like to see... he is reminiscent of JYD in many ways... scrappy... we need that type of player to insert into the game.
I'm glad to see Washington also won tonight to stay ahead of Wince Carter and the Nets. Speaking of which.. what was up with his mom being at the Raps game????

Humpries was great. 18+ rebs is NUTS ! At times he looked like a chicken without its head, but its all good. Man, this guy loves giving end of game interviews.

It will be very difficult to acquire Playoffs Tix for the RAPS durring this time (believe me I try it everyday with no luck). Therefore, we should start thinking about our RAPS PLAYOFFS meet. Specially with 2 Regular Season games remaining after todays game. I know a few members has suggested some place but we never really decided where to go.
Ideally, the location should be convenient to everybody, free/big parking, Big Screen TV, good food and reasonable in the pocket.
That might be too much to ask, but that's just my suggestion :)

Bosh was clutch down the line...

I got to agree with jobes, washington is not looking too good (lost by 30+ tonight :S).
It is never good to "wish" for an opponent --- but ill make an exception to this and wish for washington LOL .

According to last nights game Andrea will be back in the line up for possibly Tuesdays game, if not, Wednesdays for sure.
Pretty good game, Knicks really made it close! As usual I was glad to see Calderone play the entire second half due to Ford's four fouls.
I'd way rather see Washington in the first round, you never know what to expect from the Nets and Carter and Kidd can bring it when it's needed most. I still think the Raps would beat them, but they'd just have an easier time of the Wizards.

Well IF the Wizards can win tonight against the Pacers and the Bulls beat the Nets we will still play the Wizards. Hopefully the Wiz can pull one out (highly doubtful, but you never know) The Bulls are still trying to secure the #2 seed in the East so they will not play this game lightly... Difference between being #2 or #5 ... i think that;s worth playing for. But if Wiz lose and Nets lose... Nets get to play the Raps.
So we need a Wizards win tonight! Go WIZARDS!!

It can still change. Tonight Washington plays Indiana and New Jersey plays Chicago. Wizards. although playing horrible of late, will be facing the Pacers without Jermaine O'Neal. Chicago is battling Cleveland for the 2 spot, so they're sure to bring it against NJ.
Possible scenarios for 1st round:
1) Washington win + New Jersey loss = Raps vs Wizards
2) Washington loss = Raps vs Nets
3) NJ win = Raps vs Nets

Were any of you at the game yesterday? I didn't expect to, but as a long time Raptors fan, I got all choked up yesterday:
"Thank you," he said, barely heard above the din of sold-out crowd of 19,800. "Thank you for supporting us through the tough times. And we got something for you." With that Bosh gestured to the northeast corner of the arena, setting off a round of fireworks. Through the smoke appeared a simple white banner with black-and-white trim reading: Toronto Raptors, Atlantic Division Champions, 2006-07.

Also, they gave away some crazy prizes yesterday for Fanapalooza and at the end of the game they threw red confetti all over the court. Here's a few pics I snapped:

Well, what a downer that was. The game was actually incredible, never heard the ACC so loud in my life, and i've been quite a few times, including play off games for the leafs and raptors. The Raps just didn't play like they should, we were out passed, out rebounded, and our defence was lack lustre for the first three quarters. Of course Ford hogging the ball every chance he could didn't help, and I'm glad to see that I'm not the only one who sees it. A ton of people all around us were also getting fed up, and as usual Calderone comes in and they make a come back. Unfortunately it was too little too late today. Hopefully they'll learn from this game and prepare for game #2.

Although at times Ford was hogging the ball and not passing when he should have he was also one of the only Raps scoring... he was trying to get everyone fired up as well... I think the problem is that TJ at time tried to do too much when all he needs to do is make good passes....but yeah Jose brought a different calming element onto the floor at the same time firing them up...
The Raps were too hyper.. it was obvious... and they totally were not playing their game... the Nets showed who the veteran team was as they came out and just did what they had to do....
First game jitters... it's done and out of their system. Game 2... let's hope the REAL Raps show up and school the Nets!

(I apologize for the quality of the video-taken from my Cell)
That place was loud with Booooo's every time FUVC touch the ball. Also, same response when they show Wince's Mom on TV.
I was disappointed with Bosh getting 2 fouls early in the game. I guess majority of the Raps are too excited in Game 1. I think that's understandable. But the only thing I cannot accept is FUVC's winning Game 1
Hey Prof, How can you hate on TJ so much, he shot 8-13 and kept the Raps in the game while Bosh was out. Jose shot 5-14. The difference between was nobady else was knocking down shots when Ford was in, so he tried to put the team on his back.
I think Mitchell was out coached. He left Graham in the game when he wasn't effective at either end of the floor and he couldn't calm his team down in the first half.
Whos ur dadd
04-23-2007, 11:35 AM
Ford was really the only one with fire in his belly. You could see the intensity on his face. Everyone else seemed a half step off.
TheProfessor
04-23-2007, 03:11 PM
I don't hate Ford, but I would certainly prefer to have Calderone as our starting PG. Ford is a hog, plain and simple. Sure he scores points....anyone who takes shot after shot is going to sink some. Calderone on the other hand is a play maker. He gets the ball moving between players and commits less turn overs doing it. He's not a glory hound like Ford. I can't tell you how many times I saw AP standing in his corner literally begging for the ball and TJ just tries to out dribble four Nets players only to turn the ball over at the end of it.
I think Ford is going to be a huge star in this league, but he needs to think of more than himself if he has any desire to win a championship.

Sam Mitchell Named 2006-07 Coach of the Year
http://www.nba.com/media/raptors/mitchell_170_040630.jpg
(April 24, 2007) -- Toronto Raptors coach Sam Mitchell has been named the winner of the Red Auerbach Trophy as the NBA Coach of the Year for the 2006-07 season, the NBA announced today.
In his third season as the Raptors’ head coach, Mitchell totaled 389 points, including 49 first-place votes, from a panel of 128 sportswriters and broadcasters throughout the United States and Canada. Utah Jazz head coach Jerry Sloan was second with 301 points (39 first-place votes) and the Dallas Mavericks’ Avery Johnson was third with 268 points (28 first-place votes). Coaches were awarded five points for each first-place vote, three points for each second-place vote and one point for each third-place vote received.
Mitchell, the first coach in Raptors history to receive the honour, led the Raptors to their first Atlantic Division title, a franchise-record-tying 47 wins, and home court advantage in the playoffs for the first time in team history. The sixth head coach in franchise history, Mitchell guided the team to an NBA-best 20-game improvement (27-55) over the 2005-06 season. The Raptors were 30-7 this season when they scored 100 or more points and 38-4 when they had a better (or same) field goal percentage than their opponents.
In January, Mitchell became only the second coach in Raptors history to earn Eastern Conference Coach of the Month honours after leading the team to a 10-5 record. During the month, Toronto recorded a 7-3 mark at home and was 8-2 versus Eastern Conference opponents. January was the Raptors’ first 10-win month since January 2002 (11-5) and the fifth double-digit win month in franchise history. The Raptors finished January leading the Atlantic Division by one game with a 23-23 record and then compiled a 24-12 record to close out the rest of the season.
During his 13-year playing career, Mitchell was held in high regard around the league as a student of the game and when he finally hung up his sneakers in 2002, he went from student to teacher in his new role as an NBA coach. Following two seasons as an assistant coach, Mitchell was named the Raptors’ sixth head coach on June 29, 2004. Although the Raptors finished 33-49 in Mitchell’s first season, the campaign under his direction was highlighted by the implementation of a more up-tempo style of play that saw the team’s points per game average increase by 14.3 over the previous season, the third-highest jump in NBA history.
The Coach of the Year Award is named after legendary coach and Hall of Famer Red Auerbach who guided the Celtics to nine NBA Championships. In 1996, Auerbach was honoured as one of the Top 10 Coaches in NBA History as the NBA celebrated its 50th anniversary.

Raps still looked tight... and weren't flowing. Bosh stepped it up... PArker stepped it up. I just hope Bargs and Graham snap out of it.
Prof... you cannot say Calderone had a better game than Ford tonight... Calderone jacked a lot of shots tonight.

Jobes, I will be the first to admit that Ford played a great game last night. If he could bring it like that every night, I'd love the guy. As for Calderone, I don't think he payed especially bad, just not as solid as he usually is.
Joey G better pick things up soon, he's not contributing a heck of a lot on the floor right now.
To be honest, I thinnk the Raps were lucky to win this game. They aren't playing like every possession counts, lots of dumb shots. That being said they played great doen the stretch, I guess it just shows that they can close the close the close games out.
Props to Mo Pete for stepping up on the defensive end.
I hope the real Raptors show up in game 3.

Apparently, Bosh has been sick for the past few days now (according to Mitchell's post game interview). That probably explains why he looks less energetic on the floor.
This might be a question for "RJ3". Is ACC open for watching Game 3?
I used to watch LEAFS PLAYOFFS away game at ACC.
TheProfessor

Yeah, in the days leading up to the playoffs you could hear in Bosh's voice that he was very congested. He was sniffeling alot and coughing during most interviews. He is clearly not well.

Joey G and Bargs hopefully play better in the swamp.
Even Mitchell said that some of the younger inexperienced guys play better away from home. Let's hope it's the case and then they come back on Tuesday playing the way the were before. Graham looks awful... not crashing the boards... looks indecisive with his offensive...
Bargnani is not playing with any poise... looks lost out there which is very odd. I've also noticed that the scouting report was probably out ... not to leave him open at the top of the 3... :)
I have faith both will play better tomorrow and sunday and the rest of the series!

I agree that the Raps didn't play their game. But on the other hand they pulled it out. Imagine if they do play their game... The game wouldn't be that close. So i say its safe to say that even on a bad day, the Raps can play with the Nets (meaning keep the game close and have a chance at the end to pull out a win) .

The scary thing is, I don't think the Nets have played their best ball either. We all know if Vince (there is a chance he might get motivated) decides to show up in one of the games, even if it is for only one quarter and he gets going like he can, that could spell trouble. The Raps should have one both of these games easily, they seem to standing around on offence too much, were is the movement from the regular season?

Wasn't pretty, but it was a big win for the Raps. This was definitely a character building game. If we lost, it would have been demoralizing, but now we can put any anxiety aside, knowing we can win in the playoffs.
Bosh was still really tentative at the start, he took too long with his decisions. But come crunch time he stepped it up and proved his leadership. That block on Jefferson was absolutely disgusting!!! TJ stepped up big time. Glad to see Mo get some meaningful minutes and the crowd loved it. Joey looks LOST. Nachbar is a good player. So much back in forth in this game, wasn't easy on the heart!

The raps just look beat/tired this entire series. Sam's face the entire game --- priceless. He is doing EVERYTHING , but the team just doesnt have that spark/drive/motivation/ whatever you want to call it.

Look at the positive side of things.... take it one game at a time... maybe something good happens... if not oh well.. disappointing BUT
1) No one even expected the Raps to make the playoffs this year let alone win the Atlantic... they did.
2) The defending champs are out... swept. The Dallas Mavs are in the same situation as the Raps and everyone expected the MAvs to go far.
3) The Raps are young and inexperienced. They will use this to build on for sure.
I will look back on this season as a great season once it is over... and look forward to many more. The Raps organization will be a force to be reckoned with in the future. The pieces are all coming together.
rsquared
04-30-2007, 01:20 PM
Good points Jobes. It took Chicago a few years of first round exits before their sweep of Miami this year. Championship teams take time to put together, and this is just the beginning of good things to come. That being said, all the success this year has raised the bar very quickly, and that's what makes this series such a dissapointment thus far.
TheProfessor
04-30-2007, 02:23 PM
I was so pissed watching the game last night....talk about high blood pressure. It's extremely evident who the more experienced team is. You know, even if the Raps get ousted, I wouldn't mind it so much if it weren't Vince Carter's Nets doing it to them. The Raps exceeded everybody's expectations and we all have to be thankful, but the fact that Vince et. al. might be the team to knock them out hurts just that much more.
Either way, I know they'll regroup for tomorrow's game, but after that, who knows.
Go Raps Go!
I agree the Raps far exceeded everyones expectations in the regular season, but that was the regular season.
Expectations went up greatly for the playoffs and with the Leafs not making the playoffs this was there chance to get the whole city behind this team. I don't mind if they lose playing there best but they haven't played well at all.
I think it started in the last 2 regular season games, they should have play those like they counted and went into the playoff on a roll. They haven't been on the same page for all 4 games.

Wooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooo! Sorry, just had to let that out. My heart has been taking a beating this series. What a roller coaster of a game yesterday. Il Mago rocked the house early and often. So happy to see MoPete stepping up. Maybe having his boy Mateen Cleaves in the crowd inspired him :chuckle
The crowd was rocking all game long, loved these chants:

I really thought VC was going for the dagger once again. If I recall correctly, on the last possession Kidd got VC the ball to do his thing and Kidd (along with everyone else) was surprised when VC passed it back to him.
I really hope TJ and Jose can heal quickly, we're going to need them for Friday. If not, we'll still battle it out to the end. Let's Go Raps!

I really thought VC was going for the dagger once again. If I recall correctly, on the last possession Kidd got VC the ball to do his thing and Kidd (along with everyone else) was surprised when VC passed it back to him.
Wince actually passed it to #7 BOSTJAN NACHBAR (http://www.nba.com/playerfile/bostjan_nachbar/index.html?nav=page)

Yeah you're right, I was referring to right before that. Kidd brought the ball up, passed it to Vince and got out of the way, then VC passed it back, and then Kidd got it back to VC, he drove and passed it to Nachbar.

I don't think Carter is going to slack for tonights game. He'll bring it.....the question is can the Raps bring it to a greater level. I haven't even heard who's going to be starting point guard tonight (Mitchell claims he hasn't spoken to Ford in two days).

I hope both guards are ready to roll... Jose will be needed big time to slow down Kidd, but the way I look at it... they can throw anyone at Kidd with speed and just harass Kidd... we'll see..
I have to work at midnight... damn after hours server work... but the game should be over... I just hope I go in happy :)
I think the first 3 minutes will tell the story. I hope the real raps show up tonight.

I know that Bosh was supposed to get the ball and I know many might not agree but I would have put Ford in to finish the game... he was on tonight... I don't question Mitchell as he probably figured Calderone would be a better pass first guard.... all the what ifs now go through your head... Calderone should have shot it ;)

wingnut, it IS a big deal that they made the playoffs considering they started the season with nine new players and in the first ten games went 2-8. Nobody expected such great success from them this year so any post season game is just gravy.

Wow, what a game. Back and forth back and forth, and the better team won. Props to NJ, especially Kidd who is the MVP of the Nets and Jefferson, who was the other reason they won. If the Nets would have lost, I would have put a lot of blame on VC. He was like two different players, the "agressive take it to the hole and get to the line" VC and the "I think I'll just shoot a long jumpshot" VC. He showed how easy he could get to the line, yet he jacked shots from so far, and soo many bad turnovers. RJ was really aggresive and took it to the hole everytime.
Anyway, I was so happy with the Raps effort tonight on both ends of the floor. I think they finally realized what level they had to play at to be competitive in the playoffs, it's just too bad it happened so late. Caledron and Ford were deadly, Il Mago was on fire (and should of gotten more touches), Mo stepped up, and Bosh, although late, stepped up big time in the 4th quarter. I keep seeing the replay of our last play at the end, if only Jose tossed it a little higher, CB4 was wide open. That was a great play drawn up by Sam, but also props to RJ for picking it off.
It's good to be a Raptors fan, makes going through the tough times (T-Mac leaving, VC traded, Lenny Wilkens, Kevin O'Neil, Rob Babcock) worth it. Let's Go Raptors! 2008 here we come.

Obviously wingnut is a bandwagon fan... which is fine. IF you followed the Raps from the time they entered the league you would have seen the ups and downs... we're going on an up trend now.
A winner is being built and it is very promising. The fact that they made the playoffs and win the Atlantic IS a big deal because they show other teams that Toronto means business and is a team people would want to play for. That helps when looking for free agents etc.

I thought the raptors played well. It was a toss up at the end. There is really no one to blame for the loss. Calderon turned the ball over on the last play .... but Bosh missed a 12ft'er right before ... and before that Parker forced a tough shot and came up short ... and prior to Parker missed 2/3 free throws.. Its easy to point the finger when a team loses.

Yeah, I think that they peaked a little bit too early (in about mid-march) and they were just sort of on their way down - great teams can stay on a roll the entire season, but the raptors were just a "good" team this year
I think that Calderon is the best backup guard in the league, and I know that he is a UFA this season, so hopefully they will be able to lock him up long term, because I know that there are a LOT of other teams in the league who would love to have him coming off the bench or even starting for them.
Though Rasho did a decent job this season, the raps need a centerman who can move - I dont know who is available this season, but hopefully Colangelo will be able to bring in whats needed (this season was a year for learning) and that they will have more success next year!

Yeah, it was definitely a tough loss. Not quite sure what Calderon was thinking making the pass into the lane, he should have pulled up and taken the shot in my opinion even though the play was most likely drawn up for Bosh, however if the play doesn't pan out, gotta go to plan B. In terms of off season, I beleive Colangelo has proven himself both in Pheonix and here in Toronto, to recongnize what a team requires and what pieces he can acquire to complete a team so it will be an interesting off season and I have complete faith in him to do so once again. As mentioned before, Mo Pete did his job while he was here, but unfortunately business is business and he's most likely on his way out, if not in the off season, I think his value will be close to none and we might as well keep him. Just my 2 cents.

Raptors’ Bryan Colangelo Named Executive of the Year
http://www.cbc.ca/sports/indepth/gfx/bryan-colangelo_392.jpg
ST. LOUIS, May 14, 2007 -- For the second time in his career, Bryan Colangelo, President and General Manager of the Toronto Raptors, was named The Sporting News’ NBA Executive of the Year. Colangelo also received the honor in 2004-05 when he guided the Phoenix Suns to the third-greatest turnaround in NBA history.
After 15 years with the Suns, Colangelo, 41, joined the Raptors on Feb. 28, 2006, and began building the roster around star forward Chris Bosh. With the top pick in the 2006 NBA Draft, Colangelo selected Andrea Bargnani. Under Colangelo’s first full season at the helm, Toronto won its first Atlantic Division title, earned home court advantage in the Playoffs for the first time in team history and won a franchise record-tying 47 wins – a 20-win improvement over the 2005-06 season.
For his outstanding work with the Raptors, his fellow executives gave him 20 of the 45 votes cast. Finishing second in the voting was Rockets General Manager Carroll Dawson who received nine votes. Seven other executives received votes for the award. Colangelo’s father, Jerry, won the award four times.

Raps next season should be interesting. Signing Kapono means that it will be much of the same offense: spread the floor to create a 3-on-3 in the middle and then see if the other team's 3 can beat Bosh, Bargnani, and Ford. One difference: with Kapono in one corner and Parker in the other, the Raps should be devastating with the 3 ball and so there will be more space. Bosh is very quick for a PF, Bargnani is quick for a Center, and Ford is fast even for a PG, and so the open space in the middle should prove very useful.
Delfino adds some defense and slashing ability, and so while he can't shoot like Dixon he is still an upgrade as the backup SG and sometimes SF. Furthermore, he can take over Mo Pete's role of shutting down opposing wingmen on the perimeter (something Mo was poor at this season anyway).
Kapono's signing also means that Garbajosa can become the backup at PF, where he is far more suited than the SF spot. He simply wasn't quick enough to defend against other SF's or to get the basket against them.
Two real wild cards:
1. Joey Graham, assuming that he isn't moved. If he can continue the progress he showed at the end of last year before he got sick right before the playoffs, the Raps could be very dangerous in the East.
2. Bargnani's progress. If Bargs takes a big step up in improving his game--particularly in the post--then that will make the Raps that much more deadly. If he still can't do it in this upcoming season, then the Raps chances take a big nosedive...for now.
By the way, the signing of Jamario Moon (what a name! Swirsk is going to have a field day with that) and Maceo Baston dramatically improves the athleticism on the Raps and means they have some potentially terrific defenders to come off the bench to frustrate guys like Richard Jefferson and Vince Carter. It also means that the Raps have too many players, and so they will have to make a move before the season starts. Look for Luke Jackson to get bought out, or perhaps a package deal shipping out a couple of players--particularly Juan Dixon--for cash, a future pick, or an expiring contract.

They did. Apparently they had a deal in place to try to get a pick around 20th in case Bellinelli was still available, but he was picked just before that.
There was also talk of them getting a pick around 12th, but they wanted Calderon so no go. Similarly, there was talk of getting into the top 6 (for Yi?) but they wanted Bargnani, so again no way.

Here's the situation:
Yi's rights are still controlled by a team back in the Chinese league. Basically, the Chinese gov't (who controls everything of course) will not allow Yi to play in a market with a small Chinese population because it won't make them as much money in return. So they want him to go to a larger market with a big Chinese population. That's why they told Milwaukee that Yi would not sign with them. Yi personally would probably play for them, but he doesn't have much choice.
Yi's rights will continue to be owned by Muilwaukee until he sits out a full year of pro ball in any league, including Europe or Asia. But after that I think he re-enters the draft. So it's now a game of chicken between Milwaukee and the Chinese gov't, and Yi's reputation is taking a beating in the process.

Yi is 6'11, 238, and has a good wingspan (which is as important as height in basketball). He is the size of a PF, but he has the athleticism and skills of a SF, which makes him such an intriguing prospect.
However, since he did not attend the scouting camps, no one has really seen him play against top competition yet. Instead they sent out a video showing him work out, and it is pretty jaw-dropping.

I watched Yi play in the summer league on Raps TV. He held his own. He's a quick player and does have skills. Where Yao Ming is a true center Yi is not. He prefers to put it on the floor and take it to the hole. He did impress most of the announcers that would call the games.
He lacks the long range jumper but he can hit the mid range jumpshot. He does lack size and could probably get pushed around in the key.
He would not fit into the plans of Toronto... we already have fenough quick finesse tall players.

Most of the decent free agents out there re-signed for more than the MLE, which is all Toronto had available to spend. Toronto could not have gotten Nocioni unless he chose to come to Toronto for less money than staying with Chicago, which is about as likely as driving your 3 to the moon. Or unless Chicago did a sign-and-trade with Toronto.

Isn't Kapono already a replacement for mo pete? Their similar style players rite.
As for Yi, everyone thinks it's him that doesn't want to play the sad part is most ppl don't realize that he doesn't have much of a choice. China wants him to play in a big city so they can get more money from him.
Kapono is Mo Pete's replacement, but they aren't really similar players.
Mo is a bit more athletic and a better perimeter defender (or was until he got fat and slow last season) and can slash and rebound a little bit. Kapono is not that athletic and he is more of a help defender. He also does not rebound or go the basket much, and instead is pretty much a straight-up shooter. But a very, very good one and from all areas on the floor.
The way that Mo Pete often played--simply sitting in the corner waiting for an open 3--is what Kapono will be doing a lot of as well. Except that he should hit them about 10% more often, and also with less streakiness. This will help open up the middle of the floor.

Hornets Sign Morris Peterson
NEW ORLEANS, July 23 - The New Orleans Hornets announced today that they have signed guard/forward Morris Peterson as a free agent. Per team policy, terms of the contract were not released.
“Morris was our top free agent target this summer, so this is an exciting day for the team and our fans,” said General Manager Jeff Bower. “He is a reliable veteran scorer who can stretch the defense with his three-point range, which is exactly the role we were looking to fill.”
Peterson (6-7, 220) holds career averages of 12.0 points and 3.8 rebounds while shooting .421 from the field, .782 from the free throw line and .371 from three-point range in 542 games. He has played his entire seven-year career with the Toronto Raptors and averaged 8.9 points and 3.3 rebounds in 71 games.
“I’m looking forward to having Mo on our team this season,” said Head Coach Byron Scott. “In addition to what he brings to us on the court, he exemplifies the type of high-character individual that can help us build a positive team environment.”
Peterson’s best statistical season came in 2005-06 when he averaged 16.8 points and 4.6 rebounds while shooting .436 from the field, .820 from the free throw line and .395 from three-point range in 82 games. He has averaged double figures in scoring in four of his seven NBA seasons and has played in at least 70 games in six of his seven seasons (competing in all 82 games four times).

Either that colour makes Mo Pete look fat, or else he's still gaining weight.
It is sad to see the longest serving Raptor leave. I hope he has success in the big easy.

They should have traded MoPete last year, they could of gotten a draft pick. Wish him luck.

I highly doubt he'll get booed, he didn't get an extension cause he doesn't fit well with the current raptor team.
He won't be booed. There wasn't a spot for him on the new team. He has been nothing but class compared to other that have left the city.

He'll probably get the biggest ovation for a Raptor return since JYD.
