Rick Adelman!

I'd love it!

Him or JFG would be a great fit in my opinion. I just don't know if they would even consider the job if they were offered to interview?!?!?!?!?!

Jerry Sloan would be awesome as well..though again, not sure he would be interested.
Lawrence Frank doesn't really interest me. Dwayne Casey or Woodsen are ones I prefer.

LOL King James 8 pts + Wade's butter fingers 6 sec left = FTL

lebron james 8pts wtf :pofl

True. But he did almost get a tripple double: 8 pts, 9 rebs, 7 assists
The Miami bunch stunk it up. No one on their bench scored more than 6 points. Then again, their big 3 played 40minutes or more each.

Dallas has the overall all balanced attack. With Dirk at 21 pts and 11 rebs, and Tyson with 13 pts and 16 rebs...... whatcha gonna do?!?!?

But I think the most underated stat of this game is that Kidd had a +12 rating. No one on Miami had more than +4, and then next closest on Dallas was Dirk and Tyson with +7.

Kidd is da man!!!!!!

bman13
06-08-2011, 12:49 PM
Kidd's defense is getting no credit in last nights win but at 38 he still can play. However, some of his turnovers in this series makes me think he bought a house in Miami or something with some of the unforced turnovers he's had. Adjustments with the line up were clutch for Dallas. Dirk with a fever of 102 puts on another clutch performance. Simply legendary and inspiring :).

I've seen alot of Raptors rumours flying around as of late. Knowing BC, he's never afraid to shake things up. Again, the following are just rumours i've read online or heard on sports talk radio:

Memphis gets: Andrea Bargnani
Toronto gets: Rudy Gay

Minnesota gets: #5 pick in 2011 draft, Jose Calderson, and one of Amir Johnson/ James Johnson/ Llinas Kleiza
Toronto gets: #2 pick in 2011 draft, Jonny Flynn, and either cap space/ cash considerations

Minnesota gets: Demar DeRozan and #5 pick
Toronto gets: Jonny Flynn and #2 pick

Minnesota gets: Andrea Bargnani, Jose Calderon, (and possibly the #5 pick)
Toronto gets: Jonny Flynn, Wes Johnson, and the #2 pick

Toronto gets: Greg Oden and Rudy Fernandez
Portland gets: Jose Calderon and a player to be named

Milwaukee gets: Jose Calderon, Andrea Bargnani, and Salomon Alabi
Toronto gets: Brandon Jennings, John Salmons, and Keyon Dooling

S.F.W.

Of the above possible trades, first one, good deal for Raps. Second one, only if we are moving Kleiza or James Johnson. Third one, do not like at all - Flynn has not established himself as a pg, and Demar is a budding star. Fourth - don't think we are getting enough back if we include the #5 pick.
Portland rumour - Oden is an RFA, to retain his rights, need to qualify him ~8M per, can't see that happening given his history.
Milwaukee - I think we are giving up too much. Jennings is all sizzle no steak.

Few things...Marion will be guarding Bosh and as mentioned Lebron will be guarding Dirk. Lebron has had success but the difference between Dallas and Chicago/Boston that Miami is not ready for is the 6th best player on Dallas can put up 15-20 pts and Dallas has ZERO issues scoring in crunch time.

Dallas in 6.

Report: Raptors want Casey
Dallas assistant is frontrunner for coaching job but Detroit also has interest

http://www.torontosun.com/2011/06/17/report-raptors-want-casey

TORONTO - It appears the Raptors want Dallas assistant Dwane Casey to become the eighth head coach in team history.

But he won't come easily after his defensive schemes helped lead the Mavericks to the title on Sunday.

The Detroit Pistons and wealthy new owner Tom Gores are also interested in Casey and money is likely to be no object if they decide Casey is their guy.

According to ESPN's Marc Stein, Casey is the frontrunner for the Toronto job after interviewing with the team earlier this week and could be hired as soon as next week.

That is, if he prefers this job over the Detroit opening.

Lawrence Frank is also in the running in both cities.

The NBA draft takes place next Thursday and the Raptors would prefer to get input from their new head coach before making their selection.

The team will get another look at Czech high flyer Jan Vesely on Sunday and might workout more players in Toronto on Monday.

The Raptors have interviewed both Casey and Frank, the Pistons have had Frank in but reportedly are still waiting on a meeting with Casey, 54.

Casey went 53-69 with the Minnesota Timberwolves but was fired in 2006-07 after leading the team to a 20-20 record. The Wolves have not been anywhere close to .500 since and Casey has been a finalist for a number of other jobs before and since, including the Toronto gig that went to Kevin O’Neill in 2003.

Besides helming a Mavericks defence that helped slow down stars like LeBron James, Kevin Durant, Russell Westbrook and Kobe Bryant in the playoffs this season, Casey also had a very successful run as Nate McMillan’s associate head coach in Seattle.

With Casey as his main man on the bench, McMillan’s Supersonics went 212-173.

Frank, Boston’s assistant in charge of the defence went 225-241 as head coach of the New Jersey Nets.

As for the NBA draft coming up next week on Thursday:

http://www.nba.com/draft/2011/

1 Cleveland Cavaliers
All signs point to Duke's Kyrie Irving being the pick

2 Timberwolves
Derrick Williams would join a crowded frontcourt.

3 Utah Jazz
Jazz shopping for point guard of the future.

4 Cleveland Cavaliers
Frontcourt talent would help rebuilding Cavs.

5 Toronto Raptors
Raptors have a history of taking international talent.

6 Washington Wizards
Wizards could use swingman to complement John Wall.

7 Sacramento Kings
A PG would allow Tyreke Evans to move off the ball.

8 Detroit Pistons
Pistons could look for a complement to Greg Monroe.

9 Charlotte Bobcats
Bobcats need a defensive presence in the post badly.

10 Milwaukee Bucks
Bucks will look for scoring punch on the perimeter.

11 Golden State Warriors
The Warriors still need help in the frontcourt.

12 Utah Jazz
Most want to see Jimmer Fredette go here.

13 Phoenix Suns
The Jimmer might make more sense as Nash protege.

14 Houston Rockets
Rockets could use a defensive stopper.

15 Indiana Pacers
Another rebounding big would help Pacers immensely.

Raptors set to name Dwane Casey head coach

http://www.nba.com/2011/news/06/20/raptors.dwane.casey/index.html?ls=iref:nbahpt2

The Toronto Raptors are expected to name Dallas Mavericks assistant coach Dwane Casey as their next head coach on Tuesday, according to league sources.

Numerous media outlets reported over the weekend that the Raptors had settled on Casey as their first choice to replace Jay Triano, who was not retained earlier this month. Celtics assistant Lawrence Frank had also interviewed for the Raptors job.

Casey has been a finalist for numerous jobs the last couple of years, most notably in Atlanta last summer, but had been a runner-up until he aced interviews with the Raptors' management and ownership groups. After a final meeting with minority owner Larry Tannenbaum on Monday in New York, the Raptors were officially prepared to offer Casey the job.

Jan Vesely

For those who don't know, he was the defensive coach for the Dallas Mavericks. Personally I think this was a good choice, considering every other individual I rooted for to take the the coaching position didn't want it :( But I think he will do well.

Tony Parker for #5 pick?

The San Antonio Spurs have talked to multiple lottery teams about trading Tony Parker in exchange for a high first-round pick in Thursday's draft, league sources told Yahoo! Sports on Tuesday.

According to Yahoo, the Spurs have had Parker-related discussions with the Toronto Raptors (No. 5) and Sacramento Kings (No. 7) about their lottery selections.

Possible Andre Igoudala scenarios:

http://sportsillustrated.cnn.com/2011/writers/sam_amick/06/22/iguodala.sixers/index.html

Minnesota gets Andre Igoudala
Philadelphia gets the #2 pick in this year's draft

Golden State gets Andre Igoudala
Philadelphia gets Monta Ellis

LA Lakers gets Andre Igoudala
Philadelphia gets Lamar Odom and Ron Artest

Now before you widen your eyes at the Lakers option, realize that Ron Artest is owed $21.7 million over the next 3 years and Lamar Odom is a free agent after this upcoming season, which will pay him $8.9 million. Andre Igoudala is owed $44 million over the next 3 years. Gotta love the logistics behind potential trade movement.

Well, I don't know what to think. I don't know what was the biggest surprise:

- Tristan Thompson being the 4th pick
Don't get me wrong, he's a good athlete and will work hard under the basket...... but really, the #4 pick in the draft?!?!?

- The Raptors choosing Jonas Valanciunas with the 5th pick
We had a choice between Kemba Walker, Brandon Knight, and Jan Vesely

- Brandon Knight went at #8; Kemba Walker at #9
Am I missing something here?!?! Why did their stock drop so low? I had them both going in the top 5 picks....

- Ron Artest looking to legally change his name to "Metta World Peace"

Since he wont be playing till the season after we could do crap again and pick up a top pick (assuming cleveland doesn't rob the lottery again). Plus this draft wasn't the best draft class in the first place. We could potentially draft Austin Rivers next year. Although I still hate that we chose Jonas....what a joke.

When Milwaukee took Fredette I had this small glimmer of hope that it was because they'd deal with us for Brandon Jennings to play with his boy Demar. A very small glimmer of hope until I realized he would be going to the Kings lol.

Raptors advisor Wayne Embry said "that the decision was made “according to our roster,” which he added, included “umpteen million guards” but lacked “rim protection, length and athleticism in the middle.”

Sure we've got guards, but maybe we need a better guard? Didn't anybody notice how important good, fast (and defensively skilled) point guards are in the past couple of years?

Trail Blazers offer Greg Oden qualifying offer

http://www.nba.com/2011/news/06/29/trailblazers.greg.oden.ap/index.html?ls=iref:nbahpt2

PORTLAND, Ore. (AP) -- The Trail Blazers have offered former No. 1 draft pick Greg Oden an $8.8 million qualifying offer to stay in Portland.

The offer means the often-injured 7-foot center becomes a restricted free agent. The Blazers can match any other offer made for him.

Oden, 23, didn't play this past season after microfracture surgery on his left knee. He missed his rookie season in 2007-08 after microfracture surgery on his right knee. Two seasons ago he broke his left kneecap.

Because of his injuries, the former Ohio State star has played in only 82 games over parts of two seasons, averaging 9.4 points and 7.3 rebounds.

$8.8 million qualifying offer based on a total of 82 games played, averaging 9.4 points and 7.3 rebounds.
Wow, they must really be banking on his potential. It's funny how the article compares how Portland drafted Greg Oden over Kevin Durant, just how Portland drafted Sam Bowie over Michael Jordan.

I was watching some clips from that tournament. He's got some great moves for a big man..... but like you said, the level of play he was going against wasn't the greatest. But he's gotta beef up a bit. He reminds me of Marcus Camby, but with more offensive skills.

True. He's got great hustle; just worried about the stamina..... (brings back memories of Oliver Miller).
Beyond hustle, I just like the way he plays. More than willing to step in and take a charge, fight for a rebound, etc. Agreed, I do worry about him eating himself out of the rotation. Signing him long term would be risky. Ideally, something along the lines of a three year deal.

This bites!

The lack of NBA movement has me in a rutt. It's hard enough that I parted out my car and am taking a break from shows and meets to attend to priorities, but the fact that I can't even turn on the TV or log on to NBA.com to check on trades, free agent signings, summer league play, etc....... has me feeling completely morbid :(

Damn this lockout!

With the NBA lockout threatening to shorten -- if not eliminate entirely -- the 2011-12 season, many of the league's players have looked in to competing overseas. Nets All-Star Deron Williams was the first big name to make it official when he signed with Turkish club Besiktas, but many others have since followed. Here are those who have secured deals elsewhere while the NBA remains in limbo:

Toronto Raptors president Bryan Colangelo has completed interviews with four candidates for a high-ranking executive job, leagues sources told Yahoo! Sports.

Philadelphia 76ers general manager Ed Stefanski, San Antonio Spurs assistant GM Dennis Lindsey, Indiana Pacers pro personnel director Kevin Prichard and former New Orleans Hornets GM Jeff Bower traveled to Toronto in recent weeks to meet with Colangelo, sources said.

There’s no clear frontrunner, but several sources have reason to believe Lindsey could hold an edge over the other three candidates.

Jay-Z makes it official: 'Brooklyn Nets' for 2012-13

Posted Sep 26 2011 11:31AM - Updated Sep 26 2011 1:31PM

NEW YORK -- Nets part-owner Jay-Z will open the team's new Brooklyn arena by performing there next September.

"Maybe one, maybe two, maybe three'' concerts, he said at a news conference Monday across the street from the construction site.

The hip-hop mogul paused then added, "I sound like LeBron.''

James made a proclamation he may later rue when the Miami Heat's Big Three were introduced in 2010, saying of the championships they would win: "Not two, not three, not four, not five, not six, not seven.''

The Nets' owners believe their arrival at Brooklyn's Barclays Center will help vault the team into title contention with James' Heat and other elite franchises. The club is scheduled to move from New Jersey for the 2012-13 season.

And it will be officially called the Brooklyn Nets, Jay-Z said.

Dates for his concerts have not been set. But he promised: "Definitely more than one.''

So this link indicates (another) charity game taking place that will include NBA talent, since NBA players have nothing else to do since they are STILL ON STRIKE!!!!! :complain

Anyhow, what I find ammusing about this post is that it indicates:

"Miami Heat stars LeBron James, Dwyane Wade and Chris Bosh are planning to headline a charity game featuring some of the NBA's top players in Miami on Oct. 8....."

This list includes:

".....Kevin Durant, Carmelo Anthony, Amare Stoudemire, Rajon Rondo and John Wall have also committed to play...."

"...Heat teammate Mario Chalmers has also agreed to play in the game, as have former Miami forwards Caron Butler (who spent last season with Dallas) and Dorell Wright (now with Golden State)..."

"...Other players who have agreed to take part so far include: Jamal Crawford, Rudy Gay, Jonny Flynn, Eric Bledsoe, Lou Williams, Wesley Matthews and Eddy Curry..."

As the NBA recently announced that it has already posponed/ cancelled some pre- season activities (ie: training camps, pre season games, etc.), why can't these professional players not voice their opinions and get more involved in the negotiations, instead of leaving it all up to the Player's Association?!?!?! I know that's what the PA is there for, but obviously this is not going anywhere, so it's time to get the players more invovled (especially the "Stars" of the league).

ever been part of a Union? you have a rep speak for the collective...any dissent within that collective (i.e. players speaking out of line) reduces the chances of the Union getting what they want at the negotiations table.

Ture.

That's in regards to the meetings between the Players Association and the Owners/ League.

But what about the internal meetings of the Player's Association?!?! Over half the players don't take part in the meetings. They just read the updates.
When Derek Fisher reaches out to the players to provide updates, who among the players 1) listens to the updates 2) voice an opionion on the updates

Jay-Z will design jersey for new-look Brooklyn Nets

http://www.nypost.com/p/news/local/nets_new_jersey_mADwjdjUxeIInOxoLAlmeL

He’s not only part-owner of the soon-to-be Brooklyn Nets — he’s helping design their uniforms, too.

Rap mogul Jay-Z — co-founder of the hip clothing line Rocawear — is working with Nets brass and Adidas to design uniforms for the team when it moves into the under-construction Barclays Center in Brooklyn next year, Nets officials told the Post yesterday.

Jay Z, Adidas and the Nets are currently ironing out a logo for the Brooklyn Nets and deciding what colors their uniforms should be.

The team’s colors — currently red, silver, white and navy blue — will likely be changed, officials said.

Raptors adding Stefanski to front office

http://ca.sports.yahoo.com/nba/news?slug=aw-wojnarowski_toronto_raptors_stefanski_102611

The Toronto Raptors are finalizing an agreement with former Philadelphia 76ers general manager Ed Stefanski to take over as the franchise’s executive vice president of basketball operations, league sources told Yahoo! Sports.

Stefanski, who was fired as the 76ers’ GM a week ago, will report to Raptors president-GM Bryan Colangelo, who will still have final say on basketball matters. Stefanski will ultimately replace Masai Ujiri, who left Toronto to become the Denver Nuggets GM last year.

Colangelo conducted a lengthy search and ultimately targeted Stefanski in recent weeks for the job. Former New Orleans Hornets GM Jeff Bower was the runner-up. San Antonio Spurs assistant GM Dennis Lindsey had been a strong candidate, too.

I'm curious to know what Raptors fans think about this hiring.

Ed Stefanski was one of the better known GM's in the league, but he did have some questionable moves over the last 4 years with the Sixers:

- signed Elton Brand to an $80 million contract
- signed Andre Iguodala to an $80 million contract
- fired Eddie Jordan, one of the more respected coaches in the league, after a single 27 win season

True. Experience is what this team needs. Plus, Colangelo has too much pride to just up and leave. He wants to see this through. Exec of the Year with both Phoenix and Toronto.... of course he would want to be the guy behind getting Toronto back into the playoffs.

I'm curious to know what will happen "when" the lockout ends.
Obvoiusly SOnny Weems is gone as he signed to play in Europe with no "opt out" clause, but I think the other guys (ie. Calderon, Barbosa, etc.) all have "opt out" clauses. I'm curious to know if any trades or free agent signing will take place.

Seriously............... WTF!?!?!?!?!?!?!!

http://hangtime.blogs.nba.com/2011/10/28/its-go-time-in-nba-talks/#

How’s this for ominous?

After announcing that the league has canceled all games through Nov. 30 and dashing any hopes of a full 82-game schedule, Commissioner David Stern says that the NBA’s position will harden from here, given the fact that the league, according to Stern, has lost $200 million by missing out on the preseason and will lose hundreds of millions more with the loss of November games.

“We’re going to have to recalculate how bad the damage is … The NBA’s offer will necessarily — its next offer — will reflect the extraordinary losses that are starting to pile up now,” Stern said.

“Both sides are very badly damaged. The amount of dollars lost to the owners is extraordinary. And the amount of dollars lost to players under individual contracts is also extraordinary … You can make computations about who’s going to be able to make it back and who’s not going to be able to make it back. I’m not sure that any time in the short run the owners will be able to make it back.

“And I know for a fact that in the short run, the players will not be able to make it back and probably never be able to make it back.”

Stern said that the league was willing to come up to 50 percent in the split of BRI. But “[union head] Billy Hunter said he was not willing to go a penny below 52 [for the players' share], that he had been getting many calls from agents, and then he closed up his book and walked out of the room.”

As close as things seemed late Thursday … they seem as far apart now as they’ve ever been. Now, we have to wonder again about Christmas Day games and, indeed, whether there will be a 2011-12 season at all.

Cancelling the games through Nov. 30 does not mean much. It has been widely published that once a deal is reached, the league will need 30 days before the season can start. Thus, these games would never have been played. Agreed things look very ominous right now, but I am still wagering a deal is made in the next 10-14 days. Both sides will lose too much money to wipe out a season.

There are big-time decisions ahead for some of the NBA's brightest ballers. Tim Duncan, Jamal Crawford, David West, Tyson Chandler and Caron Butler, among many others, could all be had -- for the right price.

And there's even more in store in 2012: Dwight Howard, Kevin Garnett, Deron Williams and Steve Nash can all hit the open market, and 2008 draftees like Derrick Rose, Kevin Love, Russell Westbrook and Brook Lopez can join the fray as restricted free agents.

There were rumors towards the end of the season that the Raptors were going to make a push to either sign or sign&trade for Tyson Chandler. IMO, I would love to have him on the Raptors. That would be a great pickup on the defensive end. They made a push for him before in the proposed trade a year ago for Boris Diaw and Chandler.

NEW YORK (AP) -- After nearly two years of bickering, NBA players and owners are back on the same side.

"We want to play basketball," Commissioner David Stern said.

Come Christmas Day, they should be.

The sides reached a tentative agreement early Saturday to end the 149-day lockout and hope to begin the delayed season with a marquee tripleheader Dec. 25. Most of a season that seemed in jeopardy of being lost entirely will be salvaged if both sides approve the handshake deal.

Barring a change in scheduling, the 2011-12 season will open with the Boston Celtics at New York Knicks, followed by Miami at Dallas in an NBA finals rematch before MVP Derrick Rose and Chicago visiting Kobe Bryant and the Lakers.

Thank God there will be a season, because as great as NCAA basketball is, it just wasn't giving me my fix. Please let this deal go through smoothly!!!!!!!

Nene or Tyson would be beastly with Jonas as backup centre to learn big black centre basketball...oh boy! Especially with the former mavs assistant coach as our head coach, Tyson would fit in nicely.

I'd like to see Brandon Jennings come to Toronto for some real compton basketball with his boy Derozan.

We could also trade Jose for some monogrammed towels for the Toronto Raptors and probably throw a pizza in the deal.

I'd love to see Tyson, Nene, or even Sammy D in Toronto...... but I think it was Ami who mentioned it before (which I agree), Tyson and Nene are both injury prone.

As for Sammy D.... I think that issue back with Team Canada may have burned some bridges :(

They are injury prone for sure, but they could teach Jonas a thing or two about NBA basketball. And the Dwane Casey factor would be awesome for Tyson. We wouldn't really depend on him game after game because of the injuries.

I'd rather him learn stuff from Tyson or Nene than Bargs who's a PF playing the fifth position lol

Looks like they decided on a 50/50 split in terms of Basketball Related Income.

I don't even know if I would consider Bargnani a PF as he can't rebound if his life depended on it. Is it a stretch to ask for at least 8 RPG?!?!? Maybe he needs another wake up call. Just like when Jemaine O'Neil was on board and started. I know Reggie Evans was hurt, but at least he played hard every game.

He's more of a PF than a C. He won't (and didn't) succeed as a C and if he's not a PF, what else is there for him? Rebounding he can work on (if he actually does is the real debate), but playing basketball against big black centres he will never do.

Camps and Free Agent Signings start December 6th............

Let the games begin!!!!! Colangelo, find us a legit C to play this season :)

Based on teams with basically the same squad coming back, I can see the top teams being Lakers, Mavs, Thunder, Celtics, and Heat.
I'd like to see NY have a strong season, now that Carmello and Amare had a chance to play together.

So much for being optmistic about Nene coming to Toronto:

http://ken-berger.blogs.cbssports.com/mcc/blogs/entry/11838893/33584531

The Nuggets are operating under the firm belief that Nene will test the market as an unrestricted free agent, according to a person familiar with the team's thinking. Six teams have registered interest, the source said: Golden State, New Jersey, Indiana, Miami, Dallas and Houston.

Except neither of them play defense. They may put up 100 points, but they will give up 110.

Now imagine if Chauncey wasn't there... there would be no D in the backcourt as well. But at least they managed a winning record last year.

It's just like when San Antonio won their first championship. It was during the last lockout. It's weird though as I though this lockout lasted longer than the last one. But after the last one, they managed to pull off a 50 game regular season... where this one will be 66 game regular season.

How would you like to see Shane Battier play for the Raptors this season?!?!?!?!?

http://hangtime.blogs.nba.com/2011/12/04/battier-narrows-it-to-handful-of-teams/?ls=iref:nbahpt2

Free agent forward Shane Battier has narrowed his list of prospective teams from more than the original dozen or so to a handful of teams, including his current team, the Memphis Grizzlies, Miami, Indiana and Toronto, according to a league source. The 33-year-old, whose defensive skills still are among the league’s best, has been one of the most sought-after free agents since teams were allowed to discuss contract parameters last Wednesday.

The Heat would love to use Battier as a wing defender to help an already-strong defense get even better. The Raptors see Battier as a strong veteran presence for their young core, though they have been less willing than other teams to offer Battier a four-year deal. In addition, one of Toronto’s new assistant coaches, Johnny Davis, was on the Grizzlies’ bench last season, when Battier was re-acquired by the team that drafted him in 2001 from the Rockets.

Report: Spurs Will Amnesty Jefferson

http://hangtime.blogs.nba.com/2011/12/07/report-spurs-will-amnesty-jefferson/

The Spurs have decided to use it on swingman Richard Jefferson and the three years and $30 million remaining on his contract, per Adrian Wojnarowski of Yahoo! Sports. This means teams with cap space will have a chance to bid on Jefferson before he would become a free agent.

Raptors to sign Toronto product Jamaal Magloire: reports

http://sports.nationalpost.com/2011/12/08/reports-raptors-to-sign-hometown-product-jamaal-magloire/

It appears that the Toronto Raptors are about to bring aboard their first ever Canadian player.

Reports from both TSN and the Palm Beach Post have the Raptors poised to bring in Toronto-born Jamaal Magloire on a one-year deal. A source familiar with negotiations told the National Post on Wednesday evening that while the move remains a strong possibility, nothing could be done until Friday. It is believed the league will not allow player transactions to go through until Friday at 2 p.m. The new collective bargaining agreement must be ratified by both the players and the league first.

IMO, if he stays healthy and gets the playing time I think he could easily average 10 n' 10 :)

Not sure I see that happening. Look at the big men ahead of him in the rotation. Bargs, Ed Davis, Amir Johnson. Sometimes they will play small ball as well. I think Magloire will likely be more of a mentor, and will get minutes against teams with a lot of big men, or when it's garbage time.
That said, nice to see a Canadian on the Raptors, even if he would not play for the national team.

Sister's friend met Magloire at Mary Ward and he refused to give her an autograph lol. Either he has that big of a head for being on Miami (notice how I didn't say playing), or he thought giving her an autograph was a waste of his time since it's worthless lol.

I met Magloire at his relatives' restaurant in Scarborough. He does have an ego problem - but it was explained because he has been in the spotlight his whole life (among his inner circle)

I've seen him deny autographs also - but to older people. He turned around and signed a basketball for a little kid though.

Sam Mitchell (former Raptors coach) was on NBA Game Time on RaptorsTV/ NBATV yesterday. As they were discussing they were talking about potential trades and free agent signings, they got on the topic of where Dwight Howard would go.

Sam Mitchell said that if he were running the Miami Heat, he would try to land Dwight Howard.

This is where it got interesting.
He said that unless Dwayne Wade and LeBron James come to a common ground on who the #1 option is, the will not win a championship. So Mitchell's proposal was to try and trade Dwayne Wade for Dwight Howard.

C Dwight Howard
PF Chris Bosh

My two cents on the all-star weekend so far. Dunk contest was definitely somewhat of a bummer, I really think LBJ needs to get in on it next year, along with some of the better veteran dunkers we know we can expect great things from. First half of the all star game was quite entertaining to watch, and the fourth quarter right now promises to be a close game. Loving All Star Sunday so far!

His injury is a shame, it just happened to happen in the last few seconds of the Lakers game I believe. It's sad to see any guy get injured like that, when you think a couple minutes later the game would've been over and he wouldn't have been in that position. ................... now, T.J.Ford. But he's not just done for the season.... he retired. It's a shame as there was so much potential coming out of college.

http://www.nba.com/2012/news/03/12/ford-retiring.ap/index.html?ls=iref:nbahpt2

Spurs point guard T.J. Ford abruptly retired Monday following the latest scare to his surgically repaired spine that once sidelined him for an entire NBA season and hampered the dazzling promise that made him a college star.

Ford told reporters that lying motionless March 7 on the court against the New York Knicks wasn't the first time it had happened, and he decided to walk away while he still had a chance. He was playing just his 14th game in an injury-prone season when Knicks guard Baron Davis elbowed him in the back, knocking him to the ground.

The 28-year-old Ford didn't move for several minutes and wobbled while being helped off the court.

Definitely sad to see a player forced to retire at an early age like that. But I think it was a wise choice. Ford definitely has some bad luck with these kind of injuries, and trying to play through that risk would prolly just result in another major mishap for him down the road, so good for him.

Warriors trade Ellis, Brown to Bucks for Bogut, Jackson

Warriors trade Ellis, Brown to Bucks for Bogut, Jackson
By TNT Analyst David Aldridge
Posted Mar 13 2012 9:01PM

A league source confirms that the Golden State Warriors and Milwaukee Bucks have agreed on a trade that will send guard Monta Ellis, forward Ekpe Udoh and veteran center Kwame Brown to the Milwaukee Bucks for center Andrew Bogut and guard Stephen Jackson. The trade officially ends the Warriors' already-slim hopes of being part of a trade for Dwight Howard. Golden State had told the Orlando Magic it would be willing to do a deal for Howard even though Howard had said he would not sign a long-term extension there.

Instead, the Warriors opted to try and solve their long-held problem in the middle by trading for Bogut, who has been one of the game's top young centers since being taken first overall in the 2005 Draft. However, several injuries over the years to Bogut made Milwaukee leery of his long-term stability, and with $27 million and two years left on his deal, the Bucks weren't ready to give him an extension. A league source said that Bogut was equally uncertain about his future in Milwaukee and had indeed asked for a trade in the last few weeks.

The deal was done after the Warriors agreed to take Jackson, the veteran guard who had fallen out of favor with Bucks Coach Scott Skiles. Jackson has one year and $10 million remaining on his deal and wanted to be moved to a contending team. He had been acquired on Draft day last June from the Bobcats as part of a three-team trade with Sacramento, Charlotte and Milwaukee.

The second source said the Houston Rockets had been trying in recent days to work out a deal for Bogut, who is expected to miss several more weeks after fracturing his ankle in January. Bogut could be back in case the Warriors, who have been playing better of late, complete an improbable playoff run. Golden State is currently just three games out of the final playoff spot in the west.

good trade for the bucks, pairing ellis with jennings in the back court, but gsw gets an injury prone center to pair with an injury prone guard in curry and an old jackson, clearly warriors are entering tank mode, in the east the playoff picture becomes more interesting now that NYK lose its 6th straight and are tied with the bucks for 8th spot. it'd be hilarious if nyk miss the playoffs with a team consisting of 'melo, stoudamire, chandler, smith, and davis.

I really nope NY misses the playoffs..they did it to themselves. They asked Melo if they should sign Smith, he said no, they signed him anyway. Waiving Chauncey to sign Chandles was not a good move. 'Melo won't lead a team to a title, because he holds the ball too long.

Agreed, Kobe will be pissed as Fisher was a close friend and one of the few guys on the team he really trusted. Fisher also knew the triangle offense to a "T". But I like Sessions better as well. I'm just hoping he'll gel well with Kobe and Bynum (I would say Gasol, but I think it's just a matter of time until he's gone as well).

We got Jose back tonight (in the starting lineup I believe) and Andrea should be into the swing of things by now.

4 games in 5 nights coming up.

This has been my ideal goal for the past like 3 seasons as well haha

Thing is, we're so retarded that we never do it right. We'll get so bad, but still manage to win enough games to not be garuanteed a high pick. I've always thought it would be ideal to just tank the second half of the season, but just watch, the Raps will find a way to mess up even that plan! :P But hey, maybe this will finally be the season where we do something right...consistent losses!

So Bayless is officially done for the season. His torn oblique muscle is supposed to keep him out for the rest of what's left of this season for the raps. Definitely unfortunate for him, and gives the raps less time to judge his performance on a consistent basis to see if they wanna keep him past this summer. I feel like Bayless was doing a good job as of late (I think he was averaging a little more than 20 points and 5 assists inn the past couple weeks). I have a feeling they might keep him if no better deal can be found. As for the rest of this season, we've got a new guy in Ben Uzoh helping out at the point guard spot. We'll see how he turns out.

The raps are doin it up the right way. Ben Uzoh and Alan Anderson's 10-day contracts are an awesome way to bandage whatever spots they have space for. Keep dippin into the D-leagues! That'll guarantee losses and the best thing that can happen is that we find our very own Jeremy Lin lol.

If the raps go super high in the lottery (by high I mean #1), then they'll have to draft Anthony Davis. I'm not sure how that would pan out for Bargs since our 4th position will be bursting at the seams.

Yea,I really think we gotta focus on the backcourt this off season more than front court. We need to get Calderon a proper back up, and try to sort out some of our wing play as well.

Having our very own Jeremy Lin; now that'd be something. It would give the media something else to focus on than this whole free pizza slice thing. Jeez, they're really trying to make a story out of nothing here. It's been going on for years and now all of a sudden it's apparently a big deal. Gotta love Stan Van Gundys comment on it though. I always love, and respect, how blunt he is with these things lol.

The Raptors can pursue Nash all they want, and though it would be great for marketing.... I don't see Nash going to anyone except a title contender.

As for Lin, again..... great for marketing, but the Knicks don't have any other PG's (Bibby past his prime, Davis is potentially going to retire, and Shumpert is not a true PG) so I believe they will match any offer as Lin is a Restricted Free Agent.

S.F.W.

Doubt they will get Nash or Lin. Nash wants to play for a title, not going to happen in TO anytime soon. Knicks will match any offer to Lin. I also don't think Lin is a solution. Talent for sure, but a lot of work to do. Remember he was putting up great numbers in Dantoni's system, which is very point guard friendly.

Valanciunas Closer to Joining Raptors

http://hangtime.blogs.nba.com/2012/05/29/valanciunas-closer-to-joining-raptors/

May 29, 2012 · 5:37PM

Jonas Valanciunas has started negotiations on the release agreement with his team in Lithuania, sources said, an important step in the 2011 lottery pick finally being able to join the Raptors.

While it has been expected all along that Valanciunas would be in the NBA in 2012-13 after a final season in his native country, news of talks with Lietuvos Rytas are a comforting development for Toronto fans who missed having their center of the future in 2011-12.

The release agreement is part of the process before Valanciunas can pay the $2.4-million buyout to the team in Lithuania and sign in Toronto. The Raptors are allowed to pay $550,000 of that.

Sources: Raptors shopping pick for forward

http://espn.go.com/blog/truehoop/post/_/id/44989/sources-raptors-shopping-pick-for-forward

The Toronto Raptors know exactly what they want out of the 2012 NBA draft:

An established, athletic wing man.

And that's why the Raptors have already made it known to rival teams that their lottery pick on June 28 -- No. 8 overall -- is available to a trade partner that can provide the elite small forward they seek, according to sources close to the situation.

With a slew of league execs having converged on Chicago this week for the NBA's annual pre-draft camp, sources told ESPN.com that the Raptors have at least two known trade targets: Memphis swingman Rudy Gay and Philadelphia's Andre Iguodala.

The Raptors, sources said, are prepared to part with their lottery pick in this month's draft at least partly because they have a lottery pick on the way. Lithuanian star Jonas Valanciunas, selected No. 5 overall by Toronto in the 2011 draft, is poised to join the Raptors next season after the young 7-footer quickly established himself as one of the most exciting big men in Europe.

Yet it remains to be seen whether Toronto can manufacture the other assets needed to go with the No. 8 to tempt Memphis or Philly or any other team that surfaces with a top swingman available. Veteran point guard Jose Calderon (who possesses an expiring contract in 2012-13) and young big man Ed Davis are among the players that the Raptors would conceivably be willing to put into a trade package.

As ESPN.com reported Sunday, Toronto also plans to be a determined suitor in free agency for Phoenix Suns point guard Steve Nash, hoping to bring Canada's former Olympic basketball captain and newly installed general manager of the senior national team back to home soil.

But if the Raptors decide, in the end, not to make a draft-night deal and keep the pick, they're expected to focus on the top guards that could be available at No. 8. Sources say that Toronto is intrigued by Syracuse's Dion Waiters, UConn's Jeremy Lamb and Weber State's Damian Lillard.

I think it would be tough to pull off the Rudy Gay trade, Memphis already has Gasol and Randolph for 3 more years, don't see them needing Ed davis. But if Colangelo can pull it off i say go for it, Rudy Gay in Toronto... i'm def going to more games then. If not at the 8th spot Jeremy lamb looks solid, from what i've seen kid can ball.

OKC in 7. Durantula you knowwww!!!

Bigggg news!

http://hangtime.blogs.nba.com/2012/07/06/report-allen-decides-to-leave-celtics-joins-heat/

Ray Allen joins the Heat!

I'm soo pumped about this. One of my favorite players of all time has been on my most hated team for the past few years. Now he's on my favorite team, along with two of my other favorite players in LBJ and Wade. This is gonna be one sick season.

Book it now. Heat: 2013 Champs.

I know there was also talk of them interested in Granger and Iguodala. Iguodala is one of my favourite players, but I don't think he is what the Raptors need right now. I would not be disappointed if he came over however. I think the addition of Ross/Fields will help with the SG position, and DeRozan can have more time at SF. I'm also really excited to see how well Jonas plays. If everything works how it is supposed to, the Raptors should be contending for a playoff spot on 2012-2013.

Alright TM3 ball fans, thought I'd bring this thread back to life now. It's that time of year again. Ball season is just around the corner!

So, what're everyone's thoughts on the upcoming season? Prediction on the Raptors winning more than 35 games?

I'm personally looking forward to seeing the Lakers and Heat in action. Being a big Heat fan already, I'm extremely pumped to see them in action after the exciting new additions to the team. One of my favorite, and all time great shooters in Ray Allen should really provide them with the range they somewhat lacked last season. As for the Lakers, they've got some great additions too, but I'm still not sure how effective Kobe and Nash can be on the court at the same time. I can see these two teams having some entertaining games against each other nonetheless.

Pre-season is already underway, and Raps start theirs tomorrow against Real Madrid. I'll be going to the game to get my first look at the all-new Raps for the 2012-2013 season. Anyone else going?

Less than a month till the official season starts! wooo..

raps will make the 8th seed and get sweeped by miami, they do lack good defensive front line and some experience. Derozen need to have a breakout season pretty much and lowry and bargs need to play at high level all season for us to have a chance at the 6-7 seed playoffs. Big Val is going to struggle at times with foul trouble so can`t expect anything big from him in his first year. Watching the real madrid game im not too impressed but its too eraly to tell...

As for our first preseason game against Real Madrid, there was some good and bad things I noticed.
Granted that Real Madrid seemed heavily focused on offence, the Raps at times were just way too lost defensively. Allowing Real Madrid to play their 3-point-happy game style wasn't helping the Raps stay in the game at all.
Given that it was only a preseason game, and the first one at that, the non-existent offensive flow at times along with the sloppy defensive effort didn't make for a great team chemistry, but at times you could see some of the gameplay of familiar faces come together, with the guys from last season. With all these new guys however, no doubt it's gonna take some time to build up that chemistry.
Im excited to see Fields in action, even though he didn't play a huge part in yesterdays game. John Lucas is showing a lot of promise though, and I was loving the couple times he tried showing off his handles on Real Madrid. He's a quick little guy who's proven to be able to handle a second unit role well, so definitely good to know Jose will have a decent backup. Ross, another new one, seems to have a nice shot as well, and was active along the floor. One thing I did notice was the hesitation for all these guys to get out and run and push the ball up the court. I recall Dwayne mentioning that's one of the team goals (to play a more up-tempo game) so that's probably gonna need more work.
As for some old faces, they all looked good except for Ed Davis. I was kind of let down at how out of the zone he was last night. Just didn't seem to have it together at all. As for Amir Johnson, he's looking great. Was active on defense, and seems to have improved his hops as well. Got a little scare when Jose landed awkwardly on his ankle after one shot, forcing Dwayne to call time, but looks like he's okay now.

Ps. Sorry for the long "review" of last nights game. Im sitting at work reflecting on what the upcoming season has in store for the Raps and just really don't wanna start working :P haha

I agree; I'm living all our new guys. They're each bringing something to the table, and its great to watch these guys start gaining some chemistry with our other players.

Is there a tailgate party?

Not this year

No tailgate parties either
Couple years ago they gave out towels and mini-basketballs, t-shirts, etc.

They also had mini-games and activities for people to participate in. But you know, TO fans are too scared to act a fool.

Went the past couple season openers as well, but won't be going this year. Ended up going to the pre-season opener though :P

Yea, there's definitely some energy lacking in T.O. (or at least Raps) fans.

I've learnt from experience that the only way to get freebies anymore is to have a kid with you...so with that being said; anybody got a kid I can borrow for the next Raps game I go to? haha

Stay tuned folks.... info on the TM3 Raptors GB Experience will be coming out soon!!!!!!

Just as I've done the last 2 years, I'll be running GB's for this year's 2012/2013 season.

Just as year's in the past, the price will include the ticket to the game, as well as the pregame game experience.
The pregame experience includes being able to enter 1 hour before the general public, as well as watching the pregame practice/ warmup from a courtside view. I'll post a link here to the thread once I have the details finalized.

Thanks.

Loving the confidence and aggressiveness the Raps came out with to start the game.

Excited to see how this new Nets team fairs out in their season as well. Definitely showing some promise from what I see so far.
