Its expected Brooklyn will bounce back, they had the momentum from last game. Former Raptor Anderson is hurting them...looks like Game 7 at Toronto.

Lol, it's halftime... plenty of game left.

Saw this game coming after Wednesday's fourth quarter. They're not completely out of it but they gotta come back a different team after half.

I think the switch of Anderson into the starters really helped the Nets come out aggressive. Raps played way too passive and let the game get away from them early. If Demars shots weren't falling in the 1st, the score would be even uglier.

It's definitely still a game. Gotta cut the deficit a little, wear them down, stick around, and try to go on a few runs to end it well.

Oh well, let's hopefully close this out in Toronto. Though, the end of the Game 5 and all of Game 6 have certainly sucked the wind out of the Raptors.

Also, those "USA!" chants are pretty stupid. These Nets fans do know that like half the Toronto team is American, right?

NBA politics, man
the fix is in

Refs are gonna be all over the Raps. the commission is going to make sure the Nets advance to face Miami. Why? Because NOBODY (except Toronto fans) wants to watch Heat vs Raps!!!! They can't market anything. It would be a four game sweep. There will be no ad revenue coming in from tv commercials.

The ONLY way Raps can pull off a win - is if somebody blows up and drains 20+ points in first half. If T-Ross drops a few Big 3's early in the game - he'll get his confidence and momentum back. DeRozan needs to man up too. He's getting too whiney now that the D is covering him better. And they need to utilize Vasquez more in the perimeters.

The Wolf

Yup^

You could see it happening last night, and it wasn't even a close game. You can't blame the officials for the outcome, but it was scary to see how much they can effect the game. I was watching the Nets feed online... I couldn't believe how lopsided the play-by-play was, to the extent the announcer calling Tyler Hansborough a "clown" for complaining about a blocking foul (that was clearly a charge).

The NBA needs the Nets to be successful. They're the highest paid team in NBA history, and have almost zero fan base. Nobody in Brooklyn cares because there's no history. Game 6 facing elimination against a team whose GM declared "Fvck Brooklyn" and there were empty seats in the lower bowl.

Man oh man...what a game

I could go on forever on my thoughts, but let me just leave it at this. The officiating was outright atrocious. Granted we can't take that as an excuse, and still need to back it up on the court with our play, which is something we didn't start doing till too late in the game. The first half was not pretty, and was far from our A-game. The Nets did have a great game, and were doing all the right things to limit the Raps in anything that brought them success in the previous games of this series. They played well, and we simply couldn't match it this time around.

Raps rallied hard, and though it was a very very sad loss, it was definitely a nail-biter of a 4th. Raps have done this city proud this past season. I'm sure next one will be even better.

even with all the blown calls today, raps shot themselves in the foot countless times. They could've easily had this game if they hadn't gave up so many offensive rebounds and second chance points along with forced/missed shots at the other end and foul trouble.

Next big step is to give Kyle a very good contract. Toronto WANTS and NEEDS him back if they really want to make a longer run in the playoffs next year. This loss would be at the back of the players' minds (including DD) this off season and will definitely improve themselves. I expect a 50 win season next year, assuming we get Kyle to stay here. I give Casey credit when it's due for taking this team to where they are now but mannn, can't he figure out the best matchup with Joe Johnson? 7 games and he never figured how to stop this guy. Except when Fields came out in the first games.

Very proud of this team and keep your heads up. In Raptors and Masai I believe.

FD22
05-04-2014, 09:29 PM
Yea definitely a big off-season now, with Casey and Lowry both with expiring contracts. Lowry better be offered a deal and he better re-sign with us, because it was evident that he is the heart and soul of this team. Along with DD and Amir, these three guys are few of the players who have the toughness in them to bring it on a consistent basis.

As for the matchup on Joe Johnson; it's tough. He's an incredibly skilled player, which is something people tend to forget at times. I think having Amir on him for so long while it wasn't working was a bad choice on Casey's part. Getting a smaller guy on him to keep up with the lateral quicks of him was key. I think both Fields and Ross did a decent job on him, but for the most part it was a classic case of good defense and better offence. Credit should be given to Kidd to, running plays for Joe Johnson to get it in the middle of the court, and setup play there. Whether it was a shot or drive after that, he was able to get whatever he wanted because you couldn't quite double him in the middle of the court, towards the top center of the 3-point arc. The issue was that we let him get it in that area time and time again, way too easily. And once he was able to setup there, it was too late.

Yup - clearly head locks and clotheslines are perfectly legal if you're a Brooklyn Net

And clearly there was contact with Pearce's block on that final shot

But no calls.

So I repeat - THE FIX IS IN

Even that one crucial play where Lowry was set and Williams (?) got the block called on him. Without even needing the replay it was clear to see it should've been a charge. So many damn frustrating calls like that. All crucial calls made in timely manners that just screwed the Raps up so bad.

It's disgraceful really..but I guess this is a business just as much as it is a sport..

Like I said
"raptors vs Heat" wont make headlines.
We're a low-budget team of nobodies.

Whereas Brooklyn has a $100+ million dollar salary budget with a (used-to-be) all star lineup. The NBA needs the Nets to advance past the Raps to make the headlines and bring in advertising revenue. The NBA need this series to go 7 games and not allow a 4-game sweep (again - to make headlines and bring in advertising revenue)

Yea, it'll be interesting to see the officiating in the Heat-Nets series now. I would've liked to think my boys in Miami would ruin this Nets team within 5 games and spit them out of the second round, but I wouldn't be surprised if "goes" to a full 7-game series again.

Needless to say, I'll be cheering for only Miami from now on. A fan since day one, and the fact that they're up against the Nets now is just even more reason to cheer.

I was as disappointed as anyone over the officiating. But unless it's a flagrant foul, you can't expect a call on the final shot. At that point you either make a bucket or go home.

Still depressed.

I agree

But unfortunately - with the way they've been officiating this series, you have to question if the call would have been made if it was Paul Pearce making that final shot...

And that's what angers me most.

Yup...if it wasn't the Nets, I'm sure this would've applied.

Sucks that we were the only upset in the first round too. Well aside from the 4th and 5th seeds, but I don't really consider that an upset.

The Wolf
05-05-2014, 06:48 PM
I think it's important to remember that although the Raptors were a higher seed, it's not really disrespectful to consider the Nets the favourites.
Brooklyn has two probable Hall Of Fame candidates in Pierce and Garnett, other proven performers with playoff experience, and the highest team salary... ever. Conversely, all of the Raptors key players are having career years (don't quote me), and as a team they have almost no playoff experience. They could be a fluke, won't know until next season.

When you hear ESPN Radio say it would have been a "disgrace" or "pathetic" for the Nets to lose to the Raptors, I think it's more critical of the Nets' incredibly high salary and experience underperforming, and not necessarily disrespectful to a young inexperienced Raptors squad.

Next season, if the Raptors make it back to the playoffs, don't count on them being dismissed. If they're a higher seed, I expect them to be respected, and if they're a lower seed, I expect they'll be considered an underdog to watch out for.

FD22
05-05-2014, 06:55 PM
^ yup, very good points. It's just at times it's a little alarming to hear the Raptors being considered a joke, or something of an unworthy competitor to the Nets (referring to that comment made by the ESPN reporter before Game 7). But I agree, the Raps should definitely have some more respect going for them come next season, and next playoffs.

http://www.ibtimes.com/nba-rigged-ex-referee-tim-donaghy-claims-nba-instructed-officials-favor-nets-over-raptors-1575437#.U2eCxsDF0mE.facebook

"In an interview with “The Jeff Blair Show,” a program on Sportsnet 590 The Fan in Toronto, Donaghy, who last officiated an NBA game in 2007, insinuated that the league had an interest in a fixed outcome to the Nets-Raptors series. According to Donaghy, Toronto is “not only going against the Brooklyn Nets but going against the league office.”

“They have a very talented team and have to be that much better than the Brooklyn Nets,” Donaghy said. “I have picked Brooklyn to win the series with (Paul) Pierce, (Kevin) Garnett, Joe Johnson and even Jason Kidd. When you look at the coaches – the referees are going to be more active to talk and respond to (Kidd) over (Raptors coach) Dwane Casey.”

“What they do is they actually send in a representative from the league office to sit down with the referees at an 11 o’clock meeting in the morning where they go over game film,” Donaghy continued. “They will show the referees what they want called, what they want them to concentrate on, what they feel needs to be called or let go in a series to avoid any problems.”

Donaghy claims that the NBA rigged the manner in which the Nets-Raptors games are officiated in order to secure a matchup in the next round that would generate better television ratings. “In this situation, Brooklyn would be put at an advantage,” he said. “A Brooklyn-Miami matchup would bring great ratings and that’s what this is all about for the NBA and the league offices—bringing in as many dollars as they can.”

“As a referee, you get paid an enormous amount of money as (you) advance in rounds,” he added. “You’re being graded in every way you’re officiated. And you’re going to be graded on what they want you to call. So if they say ‘Kyle Lowry is hand-checking Deron Williams and we need that called’, you’re certainly going to call it. If you let something go, you’re going to be dinged with a missed call.”

Despite Donaghy’s claims, the box scores from the first two games of the Nets-Raptors series dispute the notion that Toronto was judged more harshly by officials. Through the two games, the Nets were whistled for more personal fouls (45) than the Raptors (44).

In a Tuesday statement, NBA spokesperson Michael Bass denied Donaghy’s allegations. “Tim Donaghy is a convicted felon looking for any opportunity for people to listen to his baseless allegations. For Mr. Donaghy to continually try to challenge his former colleagues’ ethics is distasteful and says more about his own integrity than it could ever say about our referees, who are the best and most scrutinized game officials in the world,” the statement said.

In 2007, Donaghy resigned from the NBA in disgrace after an FBI investigation revealed that he fixed the outcome of games that he officiated during the final two years of his career. He pled guilty and was sentenced to 15 months in federal prison.

Later, Donaghy’s lawyers filed a court document which alleged that NBA officials had rigged Game 6 of the 2002 Western Conference Finals between the Los Angeles Lakers and the Sacramento Kings. NBA commissioner David Stern denied Donaghy’s allegations."

Yea, the defender is supposed to allow the shooter to come back down in their space. If there's any disruption on their descent, it's a foul.

Fact of the matter is, both Bosh and Wade haven't really showed up to play the last two games. Wade was totally off today as well. Although James wasn't really being all that aggressive or playing all that well, we still managed to contribute to the game. This whole Heat team has totally fallen apart.

I think we have to really give the Spurs credit and not take anything away from the heat. Both teams are playing well. It's just that the spurs are playing MUCH MUCH better and exposing ALL of the Heat's weak spots.... and shutting down guys one on one or with team defense! In transition the Spurs recover well against the Heat.... they actually force Miami to play at their pace, and try to beat them going up against set system plays where pops has created 3-4 different options. This is why we may see so many passes for the BEST shot.

As much as I can see, Miami has no bench... or no clear system. Just Lebron James trying to take all the pressure and make plays. Spurs can interchange their bench players with starters... and still play championship basketball. Other teams will watch these finals and know how to approach beating Miami for the foreseeable future unless A LOT of changes are made. ..which I believe will end up with Chris Bosh being traded. Stretch 4's can work in some games...but he needs to be able to bang consistently.

My prediction is that this is the end of the Heat "dynasty". If there ever was one...

PS. Jordan is GOAT :)

Agreed. A couple of weeks ago I started watching some highlights of him and James respectively. James is top of the game, no doubt, but he's no Jordan.

I think Lebron did everything he could. Dwayne Wade had/has nothing left. If he wants Lebron back in Miami then he needs to take a very low salary. Bosh is playing more like a strech PF than he did in TO. They need more size.
Also, heat owner has to be willing to pay the luxury tax if the team is going to be a winner. They have given away first round picks, just to stay under the tax. Spurs have young talent to go with Duncan, Parker, Ginobli .

Last - I don't think Carmelo Anthony is the answer in Miami. He does not commit to defense, and does not make his team mates better.

FD22

You really can't expect much more from LeBron. He did all he could. I felt really bad for him. Fact is, he just doesn't have the supporting cast he did the previous years. Wade and Bosh weren't really big contributors this series, and the bench is quite thin. LeBron vs Spurs just isn't enough.

It was great to see the Spurs win it though, I will say that. They definitely deserved it more from the way the series went, and it was a true pleasure watching the team play the way they did this season, and particularly in the finals. Magnificent ball.

I think LeBron helped as much he wanted to do... Did he fight till the very end? No. He came off the floor with more than 6 minutes left. To me that's giving up... and he let Michael Beasley finish! Go down with the ship you built. .. fight until the very last second. who cares if your down 15 or 17 points. Mcgrady scored 13 points in 35 seconds to beat the spurs. You have tattooed the "chosen one" on your back... be That.

This is the elimination game! ...and you elect to sit out more than half of the 4th quarter left? Let me go even further, before game 5 in the pre game press conference ... he said he was ok with winning 2 out of 4.... and that this is just basketball. OK, well if your ok winning 50% of the time... it sounds like your settling, and you kinda know the series is over.

Killer Instinct/Level? naw.

Who else is pumped for the Raptors season too? I think this past off-season was solid for us, and based on the pre-season games (it's only pre-season, but going 7-1 is still awesome) I like what I see from the club. I'm sharing a link I found online below.

https://medium.com/@TheGarra_Way/ten-takeaways-from-the-toronto-raptors-training-camp-ab517977c472

Here's my feedback on some of the points made in the article:
2) This is key. Lowry has always had the grit and leadership in him, and has showed it off numerous times last season. As one of the two leaders of the team along with Lowry, I think Derozan was lacking that a little bit last season. He's been playing with great confidence and intensity so far in the pre-season, extending from his time with the Olympic team over the summer. He's built up a bit, and has worked on his game, and I'm very excited to see how he does this season.
5) This growth is awesome to see. I realize he was still developing and all last season, but he always seemed a bit hesitant and cautious at times when he had the ball down low. Hopefully not anymore.
6) It's a good thing our bench is as deep as it is, to allow for this. I'm pretty satisfied with the amount of wing players we have, and their skill level.

True, to a point. For example, I'd say Miami is still a solid team, and we competed with them quite well. Just couldn't come away with the W.

We still have a bad habit of playing to our oppositions skill level. Hence why some of our more "winnable" games are decided by few points. However, on that same note, I think we'll be able to step it up for the Bulls this Thursday. Will definitely be a good test.

Yea exactly. Still to this day though it's unclear about exactly what went down between him and management. There's rumors and all, but not much confirmed.

Yea Ross is struggling once again. Not only are we missing the offense from him, but he's letting them hurt us defensively.

Doesnt help that Derozan is having an off night offensively either.

Key now is to work on the defensive side to contain them. Specially when they get out on a break.

I'm starting to see the game plan....

Seems as though they sandbag it against weaker teams - to slow-play the bigger teams.

That Knicks game almost looked like an open-gym practice. As did the Denver game last week. But then they come up big against Cleveland (almost getting the win).

sp3GT
12-16-2014, 03:44 PM
That's probably why we're only 6-4 vs teams above .500 and I wouldn't call teams in the East above .500 elite.
Our record is the best in the East, but how good are we really?

Last night was a good win though. 2nd night in a back to back after an OT game and holding ORL to 82pts. That's good effort.

Honestly, since the past few weeks now, I've been growing less and less fond of Ross. I just can't wrap my head around why you wouldn't use that sort of athleticism to your advantage. He's taking waaaaaayyy too many god damn 3's. Sure some (not a lot) go in, but like...he just falls in love with the jumper every game it seems.

I think Lowry is running out of steam, he is not a superstar yet and i don't think he can carry us like he has been doing for so long. Well, as deep of a team as we have, its still hard to really expect anyone to really carry a whole team without consistent help. Lowry has had to do so much extra with Derozan gone, and I'm sure that toll on him would be on whoever else that would be in his position too.

I do agree with your point about defence though, however I think Derozans absence plays a factor in that too. It should definitely pick up again (consistently) once he's back.

I think today they said again that if not tomorrow, he should be back for the Atlanta game at the lastest.

I remember a few years ago when the chants were new or not as common or whatever. One game, a few friends and myself started doing it around the 95-point mark early in the 4th, and we got the weirdest stares from people. They were not impressed at all.
