Don't know how many times I can say it. Props to Colangelo for putting together a team of people with character. Our team is so friggin deep it's awesome. I regret not renewing my seasons :( I blame it all on VC... damn bastard.
So good to watch these guys... watching live is even better... I was there on Sunday... it rocked.

Raps have been playing some solid cohesive ball lately. But the next two games against the Lakers and Pistons should be a really good measure on just how good this team is. Sam Mitchell hit it on the spot when he said the Raptors "haven't done anything yet". Now that they are on top of the Atlantic, they'll learn to play under the pressure of being a division leader and being hunted instead of playing the role of hunter. Regardless, this season will be a great learning experience for this young team. If the Raps want to go further in the playoffs, they will need a good big man (like a CharlieV) to back up Bosh because Bosh will get doubled/tripled team in the playoffs. We certain have a alot of depth in the point guard and shooting guard/small forward positions.
Let's go Raptors!

Got to give all the credit to the Gm Colengelo. He took some guys that I know I sure wouldnt have if I was in his position(namely italia boy with 1st pick) but hey it looks like once again hes gonna make a winner out of a crappy organization. Being a huge ball fan its great to see t.o. on the bball map and I hope things keep going up for the Raps.

CB4 was off his game, but the game was sloppy on a whole for the Raps. They played Bosh pretty physical and it seemed to knock him off his game. You also have to remember this is the first time they met and the guys on Raps TV made a good point... almost have the team was seeing the Pistons for the first time.
I think the result for the next time around will be different... they will be more prepared... also they may have been a little tired.
Bring on the Bulls... let's bust that streak! Bulls have beaten the Raps 15 in a row...

Yes the more and more I watch Vince the more I hate him.
Good win for the Raps even though the Nets were depleted we showed who was the better and deeper team.
[Begin Carter rant]
I saw that thing that Carter did when the fans were cheering MVP. Carter is just bitter that we NEVER cheered that about him and the talk of MVP has NEVER involved Carter on either the Raps or the Nets. He is just a spoiled athlete with god given talent. He has no heart and that is where him and Bosh differ. Bosh is NOT a quitter and will never want to give up.
For those of you who watched the game on TV, i'm not sure if you caught the story Chuck and Leo were talking about... When Carter was still on the Raps and nearing his departure the Raps were losing and he was going back to thew bench where Bosh was already. Carter threw the towel at Bosh and said, "Don't worry, it's almost over" They said Bosh didn't appear to be amused by that "playful" act. Just typical Carter.
Just watching his play and his overall attitude now makes me mad to think how he just packed it up and shut it down for the season on the Raps. Comments like "I don't dunk anymore" BS. He will always be known as a baby and he's a poor sport. Did anyone catch what the look he gave MoPete when he was trying to get the crowd even more pumped? I wanted to jump into my TV and give Carter a slap or two. The last thing that made me mad about Carter was how he would not give the Raptors props for turning it around and being one of the hottest and most talked about teams in the NBA. He's probably secretly wishing he stuck around had he had known that Colangelo would be coming into town. He kept saying next question to the media... dumbass. One more thing.... the rumours are that Carter and/or Kidd will be traded. Let's hope it's Carter and he goes somewhere he does not want to go. Anywhere BUT Orlando... i would love to see him whine some more.
[\end rant]
Anyway... Raps are flying high going into the allstar break!

I'd love it if Carter got trades to some looser US city with a franchise that is in the midst of 'rebuilding'.
I think the thing that the Raps really have going for them right now is that they are all gelling so well with one another. They're always passing the ball, being unselfish (almost to a fault), and they all want it.
It's a very refreshing change. Can't wait till the second half starts.

Jobes I hear ya: saw that moment when Carter snickered at MoPete. Yesterday's game made me realize just how bad of a sportsmanship he has. Lawrence Frank's comment after the game about TO fans booing Carter? It's not that the audience is childish, it's the fact that Carter disappoints Toronto fans so much that we still feel ashamed for once being his fans.

Even though I don't follow them as closely now, its good to see them doing well now with the new setup, looks like Collangelo has the team moving in the right direction.

If the Raptors stay healthy I wouldn't be shocked to see themend up in 1st in the East as it is such a weak conference as we see in the all-star game last night as well as there are 5 teams in the west that have better records than the 1st place pistons in the east. That is just sad but back to Raptors they have found that way to win the close games that they have always lost in the last 10 or so years and that makes me think this team couldend up first. Hopefully they show up to play Friday against the Pacers as I am sitting courtside and want to see a great game when paying this muchfor tickets. LOL

Keon Clark was an athletic centre type player who might have done well had he stuck with the Raps... but instead he wanted more money and left to sit on the bench in Sacremento... oh well.
The new team is great and Colangelo is putting together something exciting. IT has brought back some old fans and brought in some new fans which is great for NBA in Toronto.
In regards to the all star weekend... yes the whole event was a yawner.. I enjoy watching the older ones when it was Jordan vs Wilkins... and the last dunk competition of recent years that was good i unfortunately have to say was when Carter won it.
I think they need to change it up somehow... what about a game of HORSE? That could have potential to be fun to watch because it would involve shots and dunks and just crazy stuff.... hmmmm... other than that... the game itself is and has always been called a "glorified pickup game" It's gets old after awhile when it's TO, dunk, TO 3 pt shot, TO, dunk etc.
The Raptors should make it into the playoffs. Stay hungry and stay healthy and they can and will surprise a lot of people.

Vince loves it in Florida so I would want him to be traded anywhere but there. Will the Nets deal both Kidd and Wince?
From the NEW YORK TIMES newspaper:
"EAST RUTHERFORD, N.J., Feb. 19 — The Nets are more serious than ever about trading their star point guard, Jason Kidd, by Thursday’s trading deadline, several Eastern Conference officials said Monday.
The Los Angeles Lakers are the front-runners, but their offer of young players, expiring contracts and a draft pick is probably not enough to get a deal done.
But according to three officials in the Eastern Conference who spoke on the condition of anonymity because no deal had been completed, the Nets have been trying to involve at least one other team in the deal.
The Nets may also be hoping that other teams interested in Kidd will counter the Lakers’ offer with a better one.
Possible offers from the Lakers could include centers Chris Mihm and Kwame Brown as well as point guard Jordan Farmar. The Lakers have been unwilling to trade forward Lamar Odom, their No. 2 player behind the All-Star Kobe Bryant, or Andrew Bynum, their young center.
Ultimately, the Nets’ decision comes down to this: If they take that first big step toward rebuilding by trading Kidd, can they stay competitive after the breakup of a team that once had lofty expectations?
Trading Kidd, who is to make $40 million over the next two seasons, would probably lead to the end of Vince Carter’s time with the Nets as well. Carter, who is owed more than $16.3 million next season, can opt out of the final year of his contract at the end of the season. There is already a widespread belief that he will do that, regardless of what happens with Kidd.
And if Carter is gone, then keeping Kidd could stall the growth process as the team approaches its move to Brooklyn.
Kidd and Carter returned to practice Monday night from their All-Star weekend activities, each saying that he was unaffected by the trade talk and that he was eager for Thursday’s deadline to pass.
According to one Eastern Conference official, the Nets’ owner, Bruce C. Ratner, was concerned about the negative publicity surrounding Kidd’s contentious divorce from his wife, Joumana. But Ratner is said to be close to Kidd. He also has an affinity for Carter, who helped rescue the Nets two seasons ago in the wake of the franchise’s letting go of Kenyon Martin.
With the Nets expected to move to Brooklyn as early as the 2009-10 season, this could be the time for them to start rebuilding. Even without Kidd and Carter, they have a solid young core in small forward Richard Jefferson, center Nenad Krstic and the rookie point guard Marcus Williams. Those three may be able to bridge the gap and keep the Nets competitive until the move.
“I think it could happen,” a conference official said of the Nets’ trading Kidd. “It seems to make some sense right now if they don’t feel like they can get to where they want to get to.”

Well Big game tonight for the Raptors; a win puts them 1 game behind the Cavs and in great postion for the stretch run cause we hold most tie-break situations against Eastern Conference teams. Is Fred Jones traded to Portland for Juan Dixon?
Yes, it's official!
It's on Raptors.com
Raptors Acquire Juan Dixon in Exchange for Fred Jones
(February 21, 2007) -- The Toronto Raptors announced Thursday they have acquired guard Juan Dixon from the Portland Trail Blazers in exchange for guard-forward Fred Jones.
Dixon, 6-foot-3, 165 pounds, averaged career highs of 12.3 points, 2.3 rebounds, 2.0 assists and 25.3 minutes last season with the Blazers. He led Portland in scoring 14 times, including a season-best 28 points on two occasions. He posted double-figure totals in 48 contests, topping 20-plus points 13 times.
Dixon has averaged 8.9 points, 1.5 rebounds, 1.5 assists and 22.6 minutes in 55 games this season. He has scored in double figures in 24 outings, with a season high of 21 points at Denver on February 2 and versus Sacramento on January 12.
A first-round selection (17th overall) by the Washington Wizards in 2002, Dixon has appeared in 307 career regular season games, averaging 9.3 points, 2.0 rebounds, 1.7 assists and 20.7 minutes. He averaged 11.4 points, 1.3 rebounds and 2.6 assists in 10 postseason contests with the Wizards in 2005. He spent his first three seasons with Washington before signing with Portland as a free agent August 4, 2005.
Dixon was named first-team All-American by Associated Press after leading Maryland to the 2002 NCAA Championship. He was named Most Outstanding Player of the NCAA Final Four and 2002 Atlantic Coast Conference Player of the Year. He finished his collegiate career as the school’s all-time leading scorer with 2,269 points.
Jones joined the Raptors as a free agent July 26, 2006 following four seasons with the Indiana Pacers. He averaged 7.6 points, 2.1 rebounds, 1.4 assists and 22.3 minutes in 39 games in a Raptors uniform.
The Raptors are in first place in the Atlantic Division with a 29-25 mark. They play host to the Indiana Pacers on Friday at Air Canada Centre. Game time is 7 p.m.

Fred Jones wasn't fitting with the raps. Dixon has only has next year left on his contract vs. Jones, who had 2 more.
Besides, raps have plenty of forwards, depth at guard is good to have.

Courtside seats are 389.00 ticket price but thank god I got them given to me!
What row were you in? $389 sounds really low for court side. I am not doubting you were there, just curious if the price could have gone down. I sat first row on the floor 3 times with my wifes old work (sportsnet) and each time the pair of seats was worth over a thousand bucks. The first time LeBron came to town the seats were $720 each. The price does vary with the row you are in and the team they are playing. I even sat beside Vince's wife and the Dude that won the first Canadian idol.
I used to be a season ticket holder (3rd row blues $625 for the whole season) until Vince's 3rd season, when he completed his transformation to Wince Quitter.
It is great to see the francise turn it around so quick. Bosh is a perfect fit for the city. I am really excited to see some playoff ball again. Remembers the 5 game series agianst the Knicks. Best games I ever went to, the crowd was so into game, the chants started 15 minutes before tip-off.

I was in the 3 row of the courtside in the corner under the net. That was the listed ticket price but they are also seasons tickets which sometimes has different prices then the actual ones you get at say ticketmaster or raptors.com, but I like the inquire into the price and if you ever get those other tickets agian let me know as I will buy them from you in a second it was great to sit 3row but DAMN 1st row I would pay almost anything to experience once.
Will do man, they are much harder to come by now as my wife is with rogers publishing now, although see still has connections with sportsnet. I sat in the owners box at the rogers center, right behind the penalty box at the ACC and home plate rogers centre and a few boxes for the leafs and Raps. And court side was by far my best sports experience. After you sit there you won't want to sit any where else.

Wow, that was a pretty crappy game. So many problems, turn overs, no defense, Bosh not getting too many looks, and IMO TJ hogging the ball trying to prove a point to his old team.
SIM SIMMA
03-03-2007, 03:05 PM
Yeah it was very uncharacteristic of them.. 19 or more turnovers is pretty bad for any team. The Raps usually take care of the ball. The Raps for some reason did not go to Bosh when they should have because it's a quite simple formula... you establish Bosh and then he'll draw double teams and then he can kick it out.
Oh well... hope they can bounce back tonight against the Cavs without Il Mago. Bosh always has a tendency to bounce back with a good game when he has a subpar game.
Go Raps.

The Raps really need to work on their defense, their rebounding especially. They may get away with it now, but this will burn them come playoff time. Hopefully this serves as a wakeup call to get their rebounding act together.
sp3GT
03-12-2007, 03:01 PM

Newyork currently (as of 03/12/07) in the 8th position. I would rather have Knicks in the Final spot than Nets.
If the Playoffs are to start today, we will be up against Chicago. That's better than playing Miami, currently in the 6th spot with 6 game winning streak on their shoulder.
With Washington losing their last 3 games, we can be as high as number 3 in the standings.

Raps looked like the team they should be... they came out on fire! TJ took it to his team big time... and the best is when he dunked the ball on the breakaway :)
Rebounding was 100% better, but they still had some lapses which was a little bit of a concern.. but the way I look at it... no one gave the Raps a chance to make it to the playoffs yet alone win their division. I'm just happy that the Raps have turned it around. The biggest difference with this years team is at time they bend but they do not break... they seem to hold their composure and can regroup.
BIG props have to go to Colangelo. Even getting rid of Jones and replacing him with Dixon has worked out! There is no one else that should be in the running for Exec of the year...
Tomorrows game against the Knicks will be a big game... as well as Sundays game against them.... division foe... gotta take them both... then we'll slowly pull away even more in the Atlantic.

Mopete is a true Rap... I would hate to see him go but the thing is Mitchell has the luxury right now to go with whoever is playing the best... he also tries to put people on that matchup the best with the people on the floor...
If Dixon wasn't as successful as he has been Mo I think would have more time... but right now Mo seems a touch annoyed... you could see it in his face... he's not known to complain but you can tell he's not happy.

I think the biggest problem last night was they just couldn't find their rhythm, they weren't passing and committed too many turnovers.
Is it just me or are the following certainties when watching a Raps game:
1) Garbajosa will travel at least twice and step out of bounds at least once per game
2) TJ Ford while playing great for the most part will also commit the biggest number of turn overs, and usually pretty stupid ones
3) Some Raptor player will go down with an ankle/foot/leg injury

I really feel for Garbo. But just watching that replay again, it seems like big man Al Jefferson (probably 300lbs) and Garbo's own weight (225lbs) came down on his leg. Thats over 500lbs on one off balanced leg.
Yes this is a rebuilding year, but the Raps playoff run is in trouble. I guess Luke Jackson is sticking with the club for more than 10 days as the Raps will look to him for perimeter shooting now.

Just a thought, but since there seem to be five or six of us who are obviously pretty big Raps fans why don't we try and arrange going to a game together? It may be a bit late for this season but we should definately do it for next year.
As long as the tickets are less than $60 and discounted. I'm In!

Rogers employee as well eh? Nice. I found that the service charge will make the 50% seem like 25%. Bought some "50%" tickets last year and my friends gave me hell since the scalpers had the same tickets for cheaper right before the game. ;)

IL Mago showing good signs!
from Raptors Insider
TORONTO (CP) Toronto Raptors rookie Andrea Bargnani is back on the court.
Although the seven-foot Italian isn't yet ready for game action, he shot around and did some light cardio Thursday, eight days after undergoing an emergency appendectomy.
He expects to start full-contact practices in a week and hopes to get back into games shortly thereafter, in plenty of time for the playoffs.
``I want to get in shape again,'' Bargnani told reporters after his workout.
Bargnani said he was still in some pain, but was improving.
``There is a little (pain), but that's normal,'' he said.
Bargnani's return carries some added urgency with Monday's loss of forward Jorge Garbajosa to a season-ending ankle injury. But all-star forward Chris Bosh said Bargnani should pace himself as he works to return to the lineup.
``I know he's dying to play right now, but ... (seeing) him slowly coming back is a good sign for us,'' Bosh said.

Raps tends to relax when playing against below .500 teams. But then again, Bobcats won 2 games in a row.

The game was great, though I was hoping for a little more excitement for my father and brothers. There was tons of crap going on in the stands though, security came to our section at least three times, two times escorting people out. They even told a bunch of huge Raptor fans (a group of about eight 13 year olds who had painted their chests) to put their shirts on or they would be tossed out!
My dad was hilarious, he didn't know about the free pizza at the 100 point mark, so when the Raps were at 93 points and I told him, he got so excited that when the crowd started chanting 'D-Fence' he was chanting 'Pi-Zza'.

Glad to see the Raps gave Luke another 10-day, based on his performance in the last game I'd say he's deserved it.
T.J. Ford is starting to irritate me. I know he's a skilled player, but he just turns the ball over so much and has a serious selfish side to him. When Jose is running point there seems to be more sharing of the ball which as we all know is the key to the Raps success thus far.

TJ has his ups and downs. Given this is really only his second year in the league, I'm willing to have some patience.
That said, when the raps are on a 4 on 2, and pulls up for a 20ft. jump shot..that annoyed the hell out me.
Oh, and what was Juan Dixon doing, jacking up a 3, when we have a 1 point lead with 40 seconds left. Take it to the rim, get the guaranteed 2, and maybe 3.

that's down the street from our office... we've been there a few times........ too many ;)
Prof I hear you on TJ... but he has a lot of upside... so you have to just be patient. We have the luxury of bringing in two types of PGs into the game at any point. Depending on matchups Mitchell will decide what is best. You have to admit... although he is selfish at times... he still can dish the ball. His type of PG skills is the type where he will try to beat the team with speed and penetration and then dish... he still had a good amount of assists. At the same time sometimes he is too fast for his own good... he'll mature and get better... he only has upside. He is a major foundation piece for the Raps. Good win for the Raps... let's close this one out soon. 76ers first and then how sweet would it be to clinch the Atlantic at home vs the Bulls?

Yes he did come in and they started moving the ball around better... TJ has been holding onto the ball and dribbling too much lately... but again how fortunate are we to have two good guards on our team?
Some teams don't even have one... we are fortunate to be able to sit one down and have another one come in and QB the team.

When TJ got injured in the past then Jose stepped up and did a great job in the point; You can see TJ's mixed reaction on his face. He was really eager to play Ball.
I don't know if he's trying to prove something. But every time he shoots or dribble the ball, I hold my breath and if the ball goes IN or no TURNOVER in his presence; gives me a sign of relief.
