It's my understanding that there is a higher-than-normal chance of throwing a CEL for the MAP sensor with aftermarket CAI's.

That really depends on what code it is. Generally, if it's something that's going to cause damage, the engine light will come on. CEL's are generally things that will gimp up your fuel mileage and lead to other problems, but that you can still drive the car on.
Get it checked right away so you know what you're dealing with.
I've had no problems at all with my Mazdaspeed CAI. I have the splash shield that comes with the new ones. No problems at all and I love it.

+1. I installed my CAI the same night there was a rainstorm. No CEL's that night or any other time for that matter. The MS CAI is simply the best one ever made IMO.

Hey buddy... From what I have seen and how I see it, the MS is the way to go... let me explain. It works as well or better than any other CAI made for the Mazda 3..... It sounds great... better than most. Finally... if your car is under warranty, and you do throw a CEL (highly unlikely), they (Mazda Dealer) will have no option but to check it out. Putting on OEM is always the smart way to go.... look at my mod's list ;)

For price, the MS is the way to go. As for design, the injen is better because the filter bends back up so the water will not drop right on the filter itself. And as for sound, the Injen is also better becasue it makes the loudest sound of all intakes. But as JP said, if you have MS the dealer will look at your car with no questions asked. Injen also is the most expensive of all I think.

I was wondering if my cai didn't come with a bypass filter, do i need to get one?
That's up to you. Its extra assurance for your engine, so its to your discretion. Not many members with Mazdaspeed or AEM have them because there really aren't any problems. If you don't have a splash shield, I'd recommend getting one.

the bypass will only work when the filter is completely submerged in water (which would mean driving through a puddle that goes up past 2/3rds of your rim/tire).
the bypass also slightly negates the benefits of a CAI (that generally has a smooth, unrestricted path for the air to flow).
you've gotta ask yourself, how often would you drive into a puddle that high and would you even venture onto a flooded street?

I've had big issues with my AEM CAI. That being said I don't have a splash shield, but looks like I will be getting one soon.
