It is supposed to show your mpg and fuel remaining..etc...on the screen

Ah... so it's just the mileage calculator that the higher end ones have?

As I understand it, all the cars have it, but it's disabled on the lower models.

That seems crap to me! I mean... it's not like Mazda is saving money by not putting something in the cheaper cars.

I guess it's an incentive to move up to the higher models though and is probably cheaper than having a second unit made for the lower ones.

WAIT I just read it further - I already have what they are describing as a "fuel computer". It's unlocked from the factory. This is nothing special.

I have an 05 sport GT, but it is not unlocked on mine.

Does this work on '05 or only '06+?

Thats exactly what I was thinking, the thing that tells you how much you have remaining on your tank and how much your burning per 100km right?

I have 06GT.

I'm so frustrated, I've been tracking that thread like a fly on, well you know.

Apparently 2004s can't do it, but it will work some 06s and up. Give it a try you never know what will happen.

I found the contrast mod by fooling around with buttons. Hold your left and right side tunning knobs at the same time for a few seconds and a contrast setting will come up, adjust with the right knob.

The 04 & 05s don't have the sensors in the HU to do it.. the HU was changed completely in 06. In the states the computer is locked (I guess)..

In Canada even the base models come with it...

you guys up north get the DIS (driver information system) on ALL your trim levels? we only get it on the top of the line GT trim. for the rest of us, it's still there but "locked". luckily i have an 06 US-spec so mine could be unlocked. apparently the 04 and 05s can not get unlocked.
