Personally, I think this is a lame and inappropriate method of ensuring that someone is trustworthy enough to sell an item in the Buy/Sell Forum?
Looking for other people's thoughts (as well as to my boost my post count so that I can continue creating the threads I was able to do as of last week)

we've had too many people just coming here using the forum as a free ad space without contributing to the community..
you're still welcome to reply to other FS topics or WTB ones ..

I see your point, but on a balance of scales I don't see the 50+ post count achieving your end desire. Based on one of your earlier posts, 3/8 admins agree with me as well.
I can't help it if I am a recent Mazda 3 owner who only joined the tm3 community a couple of months ago, but it should not speak to the quality of my character. The facililation of the feedback thread should guide potential buyers to make the informed decisions as to whether they want to conduct business with any given seller. That alone is the only fair way to judge who should and should not be able to start a thread in the Buy/Sell forum. Your new policy will lead to people post whoring this site to no end, and everyone else is subjected to sift through the mediocre and pointless posts in order to find the worthwhile posts of the majority which I have come so accustomed to spending my free time reading and heeding.

Your points are well taken, dinger. In no way do we question you character. I'm quite sure that you are an upstanding person. However, in the past, as majic said, people joined this forum solely to use it as a means to sell their wares, and they never really contributed to the community. That rule was put into place to prevent that situation for happening. So while it may seem unfair, there is a good reason behind it. Best advice I can give you is, contribute to the community by way of posting, and before you know it, you can post in the Buy/Sell section. :D

as much as i agree, someone who wants to peddle some shit quickly will NOT just sign up and post 50 posts to do so.. they will go elsewhere.. so this is a way of discouraging them to do so..
besides.. the post whoring started when broli signed up and now it's getting worse with wild weasel on board ;)
and just to correct myself :)
These are the results of a poll we conducted earlier (amongst the mods/admins)
0 - it's ebay --- 0 --- 0%
20 - giv'em a break --- 1 --- 16.67%
50 - make them work for it --- 5 --- 83.33%
100 - no n00b sales --- 0 --- 0%
other.. reply in this thread --- 0 --- 0%

see.. if we asked the entire community, those with 50+ posts would say "50 posts minimum" and the newbs would say "no minimum"
aaanyyway.. there's the forum committee and the tm3 committee and those groups are the ones that make decisions for the club.. if you have a suggestion, we'll entertain it and if it makes sense to most of us, we'll implement it..
we gathered people's input before moving to this new host/forum software (vB) and i think it was a great success but we just can't accomodate everyone.. just think of this as government.. people raise concerns.. some are heard and others arent..
enjoy your stay

truth be told, we can't do a poll everytime a relatively minor decision needs to be made, despite the fact that it has a major impact on a few (for a brief period of time)
certainly, you are an exception to the general, which has been people signing up soley to sell. We felt, we needed to put a stop to that.
it is not hard to get 50 posts, take it from me!
lol
and there is no need to whore, just look around a litte for a week and you can be there, there is members rides section, pics and vids, and a miriad of technical sections - make a few posts . . .and voila!

I really like the idea of 50 posts minimum. It does exactly what is inteded, and that is to curb newbies from coming here for the sole purpose of selling their wares. If you're really a part of this forum, it shouldn't take long at all to reach 50 posts.
Just FYI new users signing up here who can prove they are the same individual on another car-related forum (ie. TOProtege, Mazda3Forums, TorontoMazda6, etc.) with more than 50 posts will get bumped appropriately. Just PM an admin!

As was demonstrated on Friday April 20, one can get to 50 posts in one day. This underminds the logic of the 50 post minimum which is to let the membership get to know the newb. Maybe along with the 50 post minimum there should be a minimum amount of time one should be a member before one can post in the buy and sell? Maybe 1 week? Maybe 1 month? Certainly more than one day.
Now the case above was to post a WTB but it could have easily been a FS, FT or GB thread.
Just a suggestion

This is funny...especially the 1 post and the Feb 2007 join date...I'm been a member since Jan 2006 and still haven't hit 50 posts...Before the rule, I could post an item for sale, was able to sell it to a Toronto Mazda 3 member and now I have to wait for 29 more posts before doing it again.

Remember... with this policy sometimes we lose, and sometimes the noob loses, but that's entirely besides the point.
The purpose is to encourage people to be active members of the community and discourage anyone from signing up just to use the place as a classified section.
As a bonus, we end up dealing with people whom we've already gotten to know through posting and, hopefully, through meets so we can get an idea for whether they're actually legit.

We used to have problems with people coming on, and bashing a dealership or sponsor, then everything would get resolved, and suddenly the entire post content would be gone. We want the whole story out there in the open.

No, it's called stay a while and actually contribute a little to the community. If you can't handle it, that's your problem. It's not that difficult to get 50 posts. We do this so people don't just come here, sell something and bail.

quit complaining. if you don't like the forum rules, it's simple... don't join.
Except, to find the rule about needing 50 posts, which is in the classifieds section, you need to join to see the classifieds section.
So someone might chime in that you could find out in other threads, like this one, but until you see the rule and go 'WTF?!', you're not looking for the rule.
Some people just aren't high posters.
You don't visit every day and someone else gave the same response you would. In this case I'm not one to 'me, too!' post.
The original poster obviously didn't search. Let someone else give him shit, I'm not a basher. And I'm not going to repeat an answer unless I have personal experience.
Google is quicker than logging on to another site sometimes. Even if it leads back here.
I've been a member of TOProtege since 2003 and only have 55 posts. The car wasn't that problematic for me, so it didn't lead to a lot of questions. If I'm anthing like the OP here, I'll be able to post for the parts I'm looking for buy the time the car is written off.

You do not have to have problems with the car to post. I am sure having owned a protege for several years, and now a 3 you have insights you can offer members. You also can review your purchasing process, the shop you get your service done, etc.

The point in our forum is to create community.. not a marketplace.
couldn't agree more. this forum is a community of mazda enthusiasts. do you know how many ppl join just to sell then never come back on again, even with the 50+ post count. i think the mods have to clean up enough crap that gets onto the forum as it is, and they do a good job of it too. i 100% agree with the 50+ post to create a FS thread, if not it should be 100+.

That was a probably too subtle request to get the quote taq fixed. If you wouldn't mind, please? I'm about 93 posts away from being able to do it myself. And I just saw a typo, too. Damn!
I suppose there are more things I could post, but I'm a quiet, keep to myself kinda guy. I search for my answer, because I figure someone else has already asked the question. You want insights?
Don't paint your caplipers, it won't last very long. And you might get stung in the neck and spill paint all over the driveway.
My 01 Focus got much better milage than my 02 Protege, even though they were almost identical from a specs perspective.
Don't leave your sunroof cracked near the woods if you have food in the car. Squirrels eat seals.
Buying a car at any dealership is a colossal time waster for what should be a simple transaction. Small guys are better. Buy it or don't.

im sorry Nutella but it usually seems only people with "newbie" in their membership status feel 50 is too high. Everyone here had to follow to 50+ posts and its not difficult at all to reach that level if your truly interested in being an active member of the forum. Just posting a "I'm new here" thread and replying to some of the welcomes will get you nearly half way there, its not hard.

I'm a noob with less than 50. I think it's good to weed out the scammers. In my venture to my 50 post count, i've found some useful threads and contributed to questions with great answers back from the community.
Stick with the 50. I think it's best thing to do.
+1 50 is a good number. It's a great way to find your way around the forum and become part of the community.

50 is too high? how you've been here since 2005 and you have 54 posts....i've been here since 2008 and i have over 10k....if your never on here why complain? do you need a welcome back party since you were gone for so long? hell i have a spare cake in my fridge if you want it...

i dont think 50 is too high, if ppl are really interested in being a part of the community, 50 shouldn't be a problem. It helps prevent ppl from joining for a couple days just to use the forum as a classified section. I wasn't involved at all last year because of work, but now i'm on this site every day. I went to my first meet last Thursday, Had a Great time!!

Evertime I see something for sale in the Buy/Sell Forum and the op has 51 posts...
First I LOL.. then I check to see if the posts were merely post whoring or actual contributions..
Once again, this is not Kijiji, Ebay, Craiglist.. if you can't contribute.. you can't sell stuff.

I understand why most users with many posts think it's a good idea, and it is. But some people that use the forums don't post too much, because they just have nothing to post. Right now i have a SOMETHING to sell for way below dealer price which could help someone out, but I can't post because I dont have 50+ posts on this forum. I've been a member since '09 on this, and many other forums (rx7club, rx8club, mazda3forums, TOprotege) all under the same username. Collectively i have around 100+ posts total in all of them i'd say. But thats only because I lurk around and kill time on these forums, and if i find a topic to which i can contribute some info, i do so. Other wise I keep to myself. I know this isn't the mentality on these forums, and thats a good thing.
I just have a sale to contribute to the community, but I can't because i don't have enough posts.
i realize this came out as a bit of a rant, but it wasnt meant to, its just showing the other side i guess

Not to judge, but mister popcorn up there provided a perfect example of why I don't rack up the posts, and yet others have many thousands of posts. Of course it's easy to get to 50 if you don't have anything to say and post anyway. Although, that is one of the more unique popcorn images I've seen.

I do get some folks aren't particularly chatty. That works out okay when you've hanging out with a bunch of guys in a pub, or in parking lot or under an overpass :P or wherever..... the group can see what you are about.....
Unfortunately, it doesn't work so well for an on-line community. There really isn't any easy way to tell which members are lurkers and which ones are opportunistic leeches. The 50+ rule is an attempt cut down on the leeches....
Given that we do have long time lurkers, maybe the rule should be 50 posts, or if fewer posts (say 25) the person must be a member at least six months.

i think its worth it, been on other car forums for a long time and i just got a MZ3 and i don't mind waiting, and the conversion is all right.
Personally, I think this is a lame and inappropriate method of ensuring that someone is trustworthy enough to sell an item in the Buy/Sell Forum?
Looking for other people's thoughts (as well as to my boost my post count so that I can continue creating the threads I was able to do as of last week)

As a few have mentioned, I think it would be nice if the minimum post count were to drop a bit the longer you've been registered. Guess that's what I get for 3+ years of mostly lurking, now that I have some Prokits to sell :)

This isn't up for discussion unfortunately. Either contribute or don't sell anything. Simple as that. :)

50 is not hard at all. even 100 would be a decent number.
even for buyers, it's a little uncomfortable to get something from someone who's just joined or doesn't seem very involved in the community. you never really know what you're getting. i think it's a a good thing to have and does filter out the ones who join for free ad space.
also, there's always ebay and kijiji

+1 to PR3Y11.
I've bought and paid for things via EMT without ever meeting people on here, and met up and picked up items later. I felt comfortable doing so because they were reputable members in a tight-knit community. I know this is probably not advisable, but this is like a group of friends, and I really trust that someone won't throw away their reputation for a couple extra bucks. As has been said before, TM3 not a classified's site... it's a community forum divided into different sections, one of which is a classifieds section in order to keep things neat and tidy.
I've been part of certain forums where you aren't even granted access to view the classifieds section until you have been "verified" by site admin. I had to drive half an hour and meet with a mod and prove I was who I said I was. Sure it was a pain, but I looked at it as a reward for committing and putting in the time, and it made buying and selling things on that site MUCH more comfortable for everyone.

I'm a mod on torontoaccords.com and we see it the same way too. Selling something on the forums is a priviledge, not a right. Those who actively contribute (and not post whore) are entitled to sell stuff.
