That reminds me. I have to buy a case of filters soon! Out of curiosity, are there any aftermarket manufacturers of the cartridge filter? I'll probably hitting up you for filters soon, Flippy.

Aftermarket!!!:complain
Don't buy that aftermarket shiet. For example a 1st line aftermarket filter costs $17. Mazda OEM one's are $10 tax in.
Nuff said.

Mazda filters are made by Mann. You should look at Volvs40 and jetta/golfs same filters

Pricewise there might be a difference though. I use to sell Mann filters at my old work and they were not cheap at all.

How do you compare the original mazda filters vs. FRAM Double Guard ? The FRAM Double Guard cost $10.00 at walmart ? Any inputs ?

Stick w/ OEM comes with all the proper o-rings and it's
cheaper at $10.75 taxes in with the drain plug gasket.

The guys on the oil geek website www.bobistheoilguy.com aren't too fond of the fram filters. I'd stick with the oem or a napa gold filter made by wix which are supposed to be decent. They also mention that Mobil 1 isn't a true syn anymore in the forums. Pretty interesting stuff if you are into oil.
Cheers

Mobil1 is now a Group III synthetic, iirc....basically made from crude oil basestock. This has been so for the Xw20 weight since the switch from 0w20 to 5w20.
any opinion on K&N oil filters? I know they're close to $20, but the Brand makes it attractive... Also, if you use K&N can you go 2 oil changes on it? I've been using 5w30 Mobil1 since the beginning tried 0w20 but it got expensive when always buying 5 x 1l bottles...

i hear purolator pureone oil filters r best
too bad they can only be found south of the border
I just purchased a box of 12 Mazda oil filters and it was $102.38. $7.05 per filter plus a $0.50 charge per filter, something to do with the government. :flaming BS!!!
Anyway I got the filters from Mazda of Toronto. Just wanted to know if they gave me a decent price on them.
Thanks

wow 12 filters! It will last you.. 3-4 years.. I think the price sounds right, or may even be cheaper since you got it in bulk.

I thought 3M made our filters? I just changed my oil this morning, and I could have swore it said at the beginning "3M', then the part #.
As for the gaskets, I had two, the actual O-ring for the filter cap, and the other little tiny one for the middle of the cap, if you want quick drain.. I just unscrewed the filter cap, took a min., replaced the big O-ring gasket, swapped filters and away I went.

Talking about after market filters, AMSOIL makes oil filters as well. Check it out;

Yes you are right. I did however found all the correct AMSOIL accessories for the 2.0L, the 2.3L and the 2.3L MZR Turbo.

I was in California some 3 months ago and visited one AutoZone parts store. I picked up 4 pcs. BOSCH oil filter at $ 6.00+ each, Fram 9898 Air Filter at $ 10.00, and a pair of 1157 Silverstar bulbs. It was on-sale that time. Currently using the BOSCH filter and it seems it is holding pretty well.

he maybe he did uoa .. + filter partial analysis i guess ( If he didn't its hard to judge beside .. that when using some filters u can hear engine running bad .. yes u can ! )
PS Amsoil EAO is only for 2.0
they don't make cartridge filters the one that they have on website are WIX filter good 2 ... but they are not EAO !

Wix filters are Very good. Carquest premium filters are the good Wix filter. I don't know about the 2.3 cartridge though. I only use Wix / Carquest premium now. Even Amsoil company sells them.
