We were discussing doing a track day in another thread as well. Someone mentioned that TMP's road course might be a bit dangerous for those of us who haven't done lapping days before.

Can anyone shed some light?

Quick question. If I just want to come by myself. Is it only $150 or is it $150 plus $50 because I have a car? lol I am slow. This sounds like it be be tons of fun

Broli

lol

150
the extra 50 is if the car has an additional driver

Apparently Shannonville is much more forgiving in that if you lose your grip, you'll slide off into grass. It was mentioned that at TMP, you're more likely to hit a wall.

Again... I have no idea. I've only been on the drag strip at TMP so I have no idea where they do and don't have walls. I'm just hoping someone who's done it can elaborate a bit more.

Broli

i will ask one of the guys from TM6 who have been there to elaborate on this issue,

has WUD been there?

saintjames7

I have driven on both tracks. And have never seen anyone go off at TMP or hit the wall. I think every one will be fine, if they build there speed progressively with every lap as they learn the track. At Shannonville the only times I have seen people go off the track are people that are on their first couple of laps driving, driving the car beyond their limits.

I think most people who have never driven on a track would have more fun and feel safer. Enrolling in a 1-day Racing or High performance driving school. Or they should at least do some Autocross events to gain some experience about their selves and their car.

90% of the track has grass there is only one section with a concrete wall. This track is far more forgiving than Mosport which is where the event was orignally going to be held.

Hopefully this answers that question :D

Also Cereal...Broli is correct. Additional drivers are an extra $50 but must be a significant other or dependant. Each car is $150.

Like mentioned....we'd love to have your club out, and make this a combined event to kick off the year. I will be in constant contact with your club, and Broli over the next few weeks.

Remember deposits are due soon. Paypal account is being set up to receive them sometime this weekend.

Same here. I've only done the drag strip a bunch of times and autox a couple times. But I'm still considering it. :)

Another question... which track will we be on? TMP has 3 configs, don't they?

meah, I was overconfident on that 12th lap when I wiped out at Shannonville last year. I had just rode shotgun in an RSX TypeS prior and that friend was going pretty hard (lowered car, better tires, and much better driving experience).

My 3 was not lowered but had rear anti-sway bar. That combined with the RS-As which were partially melted by that time multiplied by both my inexperience as well as over-confidence equals the outcome that I faced. ;)

This event sounds like fun. Don't worry tho I can't make it so you're all safe. LOL

MaxRPM

Shannonville and TMP are essentially the same. Both have one wall to hit and the rest is all grass. Just remember that you are lapping and not racing and you will be fine.

Here is a two lap video of TMP which includes a nice spin by a V8 240Z

How many people are expected to show for this? If there are more, will the price go down or is tm6 looking to make some coin?

Are any TM3 people going yet? Nobody on the interest list yet... and I'm certainly not gonna be the one guy that goes from here who doesn't even have a Mazda... :chuckle

I went tracking at shanonnville last year with the RS-As ... lol it was quite the experience . Track was wet from rain in the morning and i was all over the place!!

Is cayauga normally more expensive than shanonnville ? just out of curiousity.

As much as I want to go to the track, I think Shannoville will be a better choice for me. I've never tracked before.

This is a newbie friendly track. It has been designed purposely for enthusiasts looking to learn how to drive on a track.

We are also looking to get some instructors on site. Which may make you feel better. You really are in good hands at TMP, and we will take care of you.

CLaman

You're sunfire is perfectly acceptable

Same here. I've only done the drag strip a bunch of times and autox a couple times. But I'm still considering it. :)

Another question... which track will we be on? TMP has 3 configs, don't they?

It will be on the circuit park track which is 3.0 kms, and is the best track to be challenging yourself.

It's very interesting to see so many stock cars going around the track at a time. XD

By having many stock cars, it makes it a much more level playing field. While we don't plan on doing a full out race because nobody wants their car damaged, we will be looking to do time trials, and possibly a handicapping system for cars which have been modified....prizes will be set up for overall division leaders.

How many people are expected to show for this? If there are more, will the price go down or is tm6 looking to make some coin?

Are any TM3 people going yet? Nobody on the interest list yet... and I'm certainly not gonna be the one guy that goes from here who doesn't even have a Mazda... :chuckle

LOL...we don't bite...even if you are the only one too show. We need to have 40 cars to break even.

Nobody is looking to make a profit here, we've tried to calculate in advance what the cost will be based on our quote. In the event a profit is turned, the profits are heading straight back into the club, to cover our hosting fees. So if you are worried one person is walking away with money...no, but if the club does benefit from it, great. It just means that combined meets later this year will be cheaper as the club can kick into the cost.

I really wouldn't worry about the sunfire. I have a Z-24 at home, but it is undriveable as it is missing a rear end at the moment.

Are you allowed to bring people that drive other cars?

Other cars are most certainly welcomed. We hope to have a few from ClubSi, and we also have a member with a speed 6 coming with his car, and his brother will be coming with the modified R/T neon.

Maybe next year...I need some rubber first ;)
Many people will be running on stockers, myself included. My Falken 615s are not going to be in on time i don't think.

Is cayuga normally more expensive than shanonnville ? just out of curiousity.

yes it is. If all goes well with this event, we may host another event in Shannonville late in the summer. However, we hope to do a day at the TMPs strip as well.

One thing to consider is this. On a test and tune night, the average person pays $20 / run. I normally get in 3-4 runs in a night.

This is $150 for a 9-5 day. It really is a very reasonable amount of money. Considering that we are paying for maximum insurance rates, 4 corner workers, ambulance on site, Pylons to modify the the course configuration.

Plus the location is a reasonable driving distance from where wwe are all located.

Good stuff. I've got a couple RSX-S friends that might be interested as well then. I'll bring it up with them.

I wasn't concerned that someone might be making money. If they are, then good for them. I was just hopeful that maybe the price might come down if enough people signed up. :)

I'm still very much on the fence on this for now though. I don't have the money for it... but I'd really like to go. :)

Quick question thoughl... since we're paying half up front, and I'm assuming the TM6 club is on the hook for the track no matter what... what's the plan in the event that it rains? Will we get the deposit back if we show up at the track and can't run?

CLaman
03-13-2007, 10:00 AM
Rain or shine the event is going to happen.

In the event of snow we will work something out with the track.

CLaman
03-13-2007, 10:03 AM
In the event we can not run, or the event gets de-railed due to a lack of interest...

because we do need to at least break even....

but...IF...this happens you will all get your money back without question.

this is TMP ...the re-named Cayuga.

Mosport long track (the one that the ALMS runs on) is definitely not for those that have are 1) new to the track and 2) have never taken lessons on that particular track.

The DDT (Driver Development Track) at Mosport, otherwise, is fine.

you're confused :) TMP != Mosport

Mosport's in Bowmanville (http://www.mosport.com)

Mosport = Big track, grand prix track, NOT for beginners, very highspeed, some walls, need experience and maturity to drive this track safely

Mosport DDT = Driver Development Track, small track, safer then main track not as safe as Shannonville or Toronto Motorsport Park, small run off

Shannonville = SMP, great technical track to learn, one wall

Toronto Motorsport Park = TMP, part of Cayuga drag way, great technical track to learn, one wall

Dunville = never been, supposed tobe smaller then TMP and SMP.

I need 30 people total to have this event running.

I have about 13 people in various clubs that I can see this far.

I need a final I'm in, and deposits to tm6.accounts.1@torontomazda6.com via Paypal.

In the event....this event can not run due to a lack of interest...the deposits will be returned no questions asked.

I'd recommend a half day event since there are a lot of novices in the group. Running a full day is hard on the driver and the car. My .02.

I really appreciate all of the interest you folks showed...but even in my own club where we've been discussing this for months, nothing was sprung forward.
