I'm very skeptical. A clay bar works by being sticky and actually picking up the little bits that are stuck to the paint.

How is this going to do the same thing? How is this different from any other cleaner such as Meguire's step 1?

I suspect they're just banking on people who don't know any better but have heard that clar-barring the car provides a great finish buying it.

This will be one of the things I consider when I am gonna wax for the first time this year. Depending on price and options I'm sure this will be close to the top of my list.

Yes.

Turtle Wax® ICE™ Liquid Clay Bar is a revolutionary new way to deep clean and restore your car's finish in a fraction of the time it takes with traditional clay bars. A unique triple layer formula consists of a scratch & swirl remover, cleaning agents and an exfoliant that work together to provide outstanding cleaning capabilities.

They're saying you can use this instead of a "traditional" clay bar. I'm saying that you likely can't.

As I said... I'd be interested in how this is any different from something like Mequire's step 1. (http://www.meguiars.com/?auto-paint-cleaners/Deep-Crystal-System-Paint-Cleaner)

I'm not saying it's a bad product. I'm just saying it's no replacement for a clay bar so the name is misleading.

I'm siding with WW here I cannot see this product performing as well as a traditional clay bar but, it sounds enticing and I just happen to have a $25 CT gift card, so I may just pick one up and give it a go.

That makes me want to go melt my tires into a puddle of goo and see if they still provide traction.

I'm not suggesting this is a crap product. I just don't like how they're marketing it.

I know you mentioned it above, I was just saying a lot of people are quick to judge Turtle Wax products because of the name (myself included, until recently).

I do agree with you, the name of the product is very mis-leading, perhaps there are clay particals in this "majical" liquid-bar. If that is the case it should just be called "liquid clay" or something like that, the word bar shouldn't be on it at all.

I saw this stuff in Cdn Tire earlier today... Although it sounds nice, I still think an actual clay bar would do a better job. Until I'm proven wrong. I'll stick with the tried and proven.

Alright, just finished trying this product out. I can't complain about the final product however, I have never used a clay "bar" before but what I can say is that my car definitely has a nicer shine than a regular wash. Did a wash, used the liquid clay "bar" and finished with a quick detailer, din't have time for a full wax. Quite pleased with it but would have to use a traditional bar to see the difference.

I cleaned and waxed my car on the weekend using Turtle Wax Ice "Liquid Clay" and "Paste Polish".

Liquid clay Review: 8/10
Overall I think it did a very good job for the price I paid and I wasn't expecting miracles. I found a few areas required a little more elbow grease than with a traditional clay bar. The included applicator was very easy to use and clean after "claying" was complete.

Paste Polish Review: 9/10 (Application Only haven't had time to see how it stands up to the elements)
I found it easy to apply and remove with the included applicator and mircofiber cloth. The paste doesn't leave any white residue on plastic or rubber trim as advertised (why I wanted to try it in the first place, as I usually use paste wax).

The only downside to these products is the pain in my shoulder from applying and removing both products in the same after. <<<This is more of a sign of my age than anything.

I used this today and noticed that it actually helped some scratches less visible, and maybe doing it again will make them even more less visible. How often can clay barring be done?

I did have one problem though, I had to rinse and towel dry 3 times just to get the residue off.

I would pressume that since its a liquid and not an actual clay bar you could use it quite often, but I would limit it to a few times a year just to be on the safe side since there must be some kind of abrasives in the formula, albeit very mild abrasives I would think.
Next time you go to 'wash off the clay' try using a Mild dish soap instead of a regular car soap, it will help cut thru the grease and residue much better.

Turtle Wax ICE Liquid Clay Bar ($19.99 @ Canadian Tire): 5/10

Well I finally went out and bought this product. I used it for the BubBQ. I must say I come away unimpressed. $20 which I really didn't need to spend, except for reassurance that I got all the grit off my car.

I totally recommend this products to new vehicle enthusiasts who may want more in their vehicles shine than just a simple wash and wax. I have no doubt that the product truly works but it didn't really do much for me. I've never tried an actual clay bar (non-liquid) but I'm sure it works much better and is probably worth the price difference and time dedication.

Let me note that the product did not work for me. Why would I say this? I came away with a clean applicator despite rubbing pretty hard to get dirt and grime out of the clear coat. As I said my applicator was as good as new and I saw no real difference in the shine that I wouldn't get from a good clean and wax. Also, I didn't 'feel' any difference in the surface with my fingers as they said I should.

Why would I say it didn't work? Well I'd rather answer that question by describing why it didn't work for me and how you can save $20...

...To prepare for the BubBQ I went through these steps for a sparkly car:

Night Before:

- Washed with Simoniz car soap (20mins)*
- Washed with Simoniz car soap and Dawn Dish washing soap (20mins)**
- dried with chamois, let er sit for the night(25mins)
- waxed the rims (Nanowax) (35mins) (Waxing rims is a pain, don't do it)
- Armor-All'ed the tires (5mins)
- Total time (Approx.): 1 hour 45 minutes

Morning of:

- washed the car with Simoniz Car wash soap (10mins)
- washed with Meguires Gold Class Car wash soap wash mixed a helpful addition of Dawn Dish washing soap (green). (20mins)**
- dried car with chamois (25mins)
- applied Turtle Ice Liquid clay bar (one panel at a time) (60mins)
- washed off Clay bar right after (one panel at a time) (see last step)
- dried each panel with a chamois*** (see 2 steps ago)
- applied Meguired NXT Generation wax (paste) (one panel at a time) (40mins)
- polished off the wax (one panel at a time) (see previous)
- wiped down the rims (10mins)
- Armor-All'ed the tires. (5mins)
- Total time (Approx.): 2 hours 50 minutes****

*: The fact that I washed the car so many time before using the clay bar could have contributed to the clay bar not working.

**: I used Dawn Dish Washing soap only to take off previous coats of wax as recommended by many members of the forum. That definitely worked! But I don't recommend using Dish Washing soap as your regular washing soap.

***: The Ice Clay bar leaves a lot of residue, don't let it dry and wash it down thoroughly.

****: Total time did not include interior detailing (didn't have time lol)

So if you want to save yourself $20 don't buy the polish, wash your car regularly, then do another wash with Gentle Dish washing soap. Its easier too because it lathers much more than regular car wash soap.

Recommended for Beginners with not to much time to spend on the car.

I did not use any kind of soap when I rinsed it off, the directions only said to rinse and towel dry.

At first I also started with one panel at a time, but then realized that I would have to hand dry that panel then the panels immediately beside it every time so I got lazy and clay barred the whole car and by the time I was done, it was dry.

Then I drenched the car and wiped it down with the damp towel and the used a couple of dry towels to completely dry the car. It took a couple of times to completely remove all of the residue, but I can definately say that my car does feel smoother and my hand actually slips off the car instead of gripping it.

Should also mention that although my car feels smoother the actual impurities that I wanted to try to remove are, for the most part, still there.

Wow, I think I got a deal, I only paid $9.99 for mine at Crappy Tire.

3GFX - As per your post, I think the fact you washed you car 4 times before you used the Liquid Clay is the reason the applicator was clean when you were done.

Remember, this product is designed to as is says "Easily remove minor scratches, swirls marks, tree sap, paint overspray and embedded dirt and stains." I had some areas (my white car makes it very easy to see this when you are up close) and after some work it was gone. The way you can tell if it has worked is that it will cause water to bead off similar to a wax application because the surface is free of contaminants. I did half of my hood as a test before I spent the rest of the afternoon cleaning the rest of the car. The difference from one side of the hood to the other was night and day.

I do agree that it left a lot of residue but I found it was very easy to clean off before I dryed and applied the paste polish.

I am in no way trying to start a battle, I can see you put a lot of time into cleaning and caring for your car. I just wanted to put some more info out there for other memebers thinking about trying this product.

I would also point out if you are a detailing perfectionist, I would recommend you use traditional clay bar and lube.

I only use the wax as you dry stuff after i do a proper wax, like if it rains or something as long as there isnt any dirt on the car.

No - use the spray that comes with the Clay or soap and water.

The clay bar is used to remove embedded dirt from the clear coat.
(Using it with the spray wax will seal the dirt you are trying to clean to the car)

Wax is used to protect the paint/clear coat and should be applied after the car is cleaned with the clay bar.

No it wouldn't work unfortunatly. Wax-as-you-dry tends to leave residue and or streaks if you use it on dry. You'd have to have a detailer not a waxer.

ok, just finished using the Mothers Claybar Kit...

what i think?

i thought it was totally useless. the spray left streaks on my car which was hard to rub off. after i was done, i looked at my claybar and didn't see a single dirt. the clay was still smooth and bright yellow (colour of claybar). I was disappointed. Will never spend another dime on claybar! with that said, who wants the Claybar Kit? i only used 1/3 of the claybar. i will include it with both bottles that came with it. Everything in brand new condition. I'll have the kit with me at the June 2nd Meet. Price: $20

The only product i thought was alright was Meguiars NXT Wax. I used it to remove the streaks left behind by the Claybar Spray. Other than that, my car looked pretty much the same as when i wash and dried it. Colour did not deepen or get any shinier.

I liked the liquid clay bar
I also just clay barred the whole car then hosed it off
I only had to hose off once though

My applicator pad was pretty dirty actually when i was finished with it
I finished it off with the ICE liquid paste which made the black really pop
I use their detailer as well

I really like their whole product line especially that I own a black car it has worked wonders for me

I'd give 7.5/10

I can't help but wonder whether you used it right. First off, I'd never use 1/3rd of the bar in a single use. Secondly... how can it leave streaks? You have to wash each area as soon as you're done.

Maybe when you bring it to a meet, someone will show you how to use it properly.

A clay bar is not meant to give you a final shine, it's only meant as a step to clean the paint thoroughly before you polish and wax it.

You should wash the car thoroughly before you use a clay bar on it.
The go over the entire car with the clay bar.
Rinse or even wash the car again, and make sure you rinse it well.
Hit the paint with a good polish.
Seal everything with a final wax.
