Since Feb 1st installed as boot with WinXP SP2. P3 computer, mobo does not support 48-bit LBA but my Promise Ultra100 TX2 was flashed to a newer firmware which supports 48-bit LBA.

D0 is this 200GB drive (total usable is actually 190GB)
D1 nothing
D2 older 60GB hdd
D3 older 30GB hdd

Mobo's IDE connectors contain three CD/DVD/RW/ROM drives total.

Up to last week everything working fine. Then while downloading torrents using Azureus, system would hang. No BSOD or anything. Once in a while an error msg "The request could not be performed because of an I/O device error" would pop up but not always.

200GB drive is partitioned to C: 20GB and F: 170GB

All my downloads go to F:

Seemed when writing "large" files to any partition of the 200GB drive, it would hang the system after a certain amount of data. I tested using DVD Shrink and "repacking" DVD ISOs. At least a GB of data would be written before system hang. This goes whether I'm writing to C: or F:. I tried writing to D: and E: (older drives) and no probs.

I ran PowerMax v4.23 last night on the entire 200GB drive, no errors found.

Is it WinXP? or is it the Ultra100 TX2?

Thanks in advance,
Warren

I'd put my money on the controller...it looks like it has gone bad.

I had nothing but issues with my Promise Controller. Their tech support was even more of a joke.

I would run JUST the 200GB off the MoBo and see if that solves it.... if so, throw the Promise controller across the room! lol

I found a slightly used Promise Ultra133 TX2 on RFD for $5. Picking it up today at lunch.

I've had my Ultra100 for a LONG time. Over four years if I'm not mistaken.

I just ran PartitionInfo (from PartitionMagic) on the PC;

Error #109: Partition ends after end of disk.
ucEndCylinder (24791) must be less than 16709.

WTF ... looks like something changed and causing the system (or controller!) to not read the drive properly

How does one go about changing their controller card from Ultra 100 to Ultra 133 (both are TX2)?

I've been running WinXP on the Ultra 100 but now want to swap in the Ultra 133 and I can't figure out how to do it without WinXP giving me a BSOD (stop error) before it can even load at boot-up.

The drive is the above 200GB drive so I can't connect it to mobo IDE (won't detect properly).

I've tried booting from WinXP Setup CD and loading the Promise Ultra 133 drivers off floppy. The controller works. I do a "repair windows" (console) and it can read the files.

I've even copied the ULTRA.SYS file from the floppy to the DRIVERS folder in Windows\System32 but it still gave me the stop error BSOD at boot-up.

Any assistance please?

I have had that problem before but it was with 8 TB and with a 3ware sata raid controller. Thats very weird. I would download tools from the manufacture website and run them on the hard drive and see what they say.
