View Full Version : Does your aftermarket cat back exhaust system pop ?

Hi I am just wondering if this is normal. i have a catback system for my 05 hatch , and upon deceleration or shifting at high revs i get a pop , is this bad or just a sound amplified with my catback ?

It is a magnaflow catback

Its back fire. Its normal, I get quite a few of those.

can't say I've ever heard that... there are a few ppl on here with aftermarket exhausts.... one of them has a maganflow as well.... how long have you had your exhaust?

Yep my vibrant does this also. I kinda like the pop & burble sound.

Mine does it 2 seconds after I let off the accelerator & it happens every time.

not only do i also get this pop, but add a header, and the pop becomes an intense 12 gauge shotgun BANG!
its great down quiet neighbourhoods setting it off randomly at 4am, haha

Yeah my Mazdaspeed 3 backfires all the time and I have not changed the exhaust at all. I still have the stock one on.

it was awsome, coming home from work tonight, pulled into my street in 2nd gear at high revv's...let it settle a bit, then tapped the gas, BANG! SOOOOOO loud, hahah the guy walking on teh sidewalk almost came out of his pants!

i think they all pop. My Racing Beat does it, so is the Draxas and the HKS.

mine never used to pop and i had a custom dual with magnaflow parts (muffler, resonator, and hi flow cat) so im not sure but mine was auto

really loud never doing exhaust again

I got the magnaflow exhaust for the 3 but it only backfires when I downshift. I went in a co-workers SRT-4 before and it backfires like mad.

Mine burbles a bit, and backfires a bit at times, but it's never that loud.

The popping is caused by unburned fuel getting into the exhaust headers, touching the uber hot elements and setting off mini explosions.

Was following an SRT4 yesterday after work. Bastd sounded like his car was gonna start spewing out popcorn from every orifice.

Confirmed popping for Draxas full cat-back exhaust system. ;)
