so i haven't logged into my hotmail account in a few weeks maybe.. i use gmail b/c hotmail sux donkey balls.. but i had a few emails here and there of some value .. i had hotmail from back in the day when i signed up for msn.. that was the only reason i used the account..
along came meebo.com and i don't even have to log into msn per se.. anyway.. today i figured i'll log in and check some junk out.. well those ****ing a$$holes deleted all my email b/c my account has been inactive for 10 friggin days.. GIVE ME A BREAK!!! an their stipulation was i had to log in within the next 10 days and at least 3 or whatever number of times within 30 days or else my account would be gone..
bunch of :AH :AH :AH :AH :AH

Microsoft just are not innovative enough, they seem to have very rigid thinking, I'd give up my hotmail account but people insist on sending me email there even though I give them my gmail address, gmails filing system is great!

Yeah, 10 days is pretty fast. I have it setup in Outlook and Messenger Live, so I really don't have a problem. I like Hotmail because of POP3 access.

I have both hotmail and gmail, and I tell people to use either one, or which ever is easiest for them to remember.
Don't know why yahoo doesn't have free POP3 access, weird.

hotmail is for junk but some people are too lazy and they will rt click 'email' me from msn.. duh..
google calendar works like a charm.. i share it with my gf and vice versa.. and it's pretty much whoever puts an event in first wins for that day :D hehe..

My gf and I do the exact same thing, between our work schedules and weekly events, it makes things soooo much easier to plan out.

I know it sucks but what do you really expect from a free service? I'm sure this is all mentioned in their terms of use when signing up for hotmail account.

Can't you set up other non hotmail accounts as passport account and use to log into MSN and other services that require passport?
I like Hotmail because of POP3 access.
I believe only the older Hotmail accounts allow POP3 access - something they allow for free for "loyal" users. You have to subscribe to the service (pay $$) if your hotmail account does not qualify.
Gmail on the other hand goes one step further and offers SSL for both their POP & SMTP.

Yeah hotmail has always seemed to have a cheap service. I used them waaaay back in the day but switched to yahoo for the longest time. Never had to worry about losing any emails or having to reactivate the account. I use gmail now too and it's pretty good. No complaints so far except maybe the fack that there aren't any sorting folders that I see, just those label things. I think that would be a good addition.
Hotmail sucks :complain

I haven't used my original hotmail account in years. Someone send me an email and I will see if it's still active. The email address is AmishMidgetPornRules@hotmail.com

actually QUITE A LOT!!! and lol.. who reads the TOS ;) i mean i've had a yahoo account that i hadn't logged in months if not over a yearn and i was good to go.. just had to update to their new interface..
i mean email has become an integral part of everyone's day (or most folks anyway) and it's like M$ saying here try this and when you like it/are dependent on it we'll take it away from you or charge you.. nice.. :loco
Can't you set up other non hotmail accounts as passport account and use to log into MSN and other services that require passport?
yes you can.. but why? i already have a hotmail account .. supposedly inactive tho :complain .. so M$ has more of my info on record?
it's funny b/c when i had to create that 'passport' i thought uuuh oooh 1 stop shop for passwords i can use to log into other places.. but 1) where the hell else do you use a passport? i know i don't and 2) i don't trust M$ft with my information.. bah

If you think Hotmail is bad try M$'s new Windows Live Mail piece of shit! I know it's still in Beta but so is Gmail and it's MILES ahead of them despite their late entry into the market. I've been 'using' Live Mail for a few months and it's getting worse. It has lots of graphic ads and it's ridiculously slow!
I am very tempted to make the full switch to Gmail.
BTW I haven't used my Yahoo account in about a year and I can still login and see my mail.

The old Fang was much more funnier.
That sucks majic. I've gotten deleted before. Apparently logging into MSN with that hotmail account doesn't count as loggin in either.

I agree with howitts_done, Windows Live mail is a slug BUT IMHO I wish Gmail was better at deleting spam automatically. I hate that I have to manually delete all the crap in the spam folder:bang

i guess i'm not the only one (http://www.theinquirer.net/default.aspx?article=38899) ;)
apparently some dude wrote to them and said 'oooh i've been a loyal customer since 1997 and this is what you've done to me' yada yada.. the mail magically reappeared.. i guess it didn't help that i sent a slew of nasty msgs to hotmail staff :P oh well

Of course you're not the only one. It's Microsoft's policy and so I imagine there's an automated system that cleans up "inactive" accounts. Yeah, I'm sure it screws a lot of people. Oh well...I use Outlook and Gmail.
hmmm...that article was written Fri 13th.

I thought hotmail was HTTP access through Outlook.... I don't recall them having a pop3 server address, unless there is a difference between Hotmail and Windows Live Mail.
