reeeally... ....i have an 04 GS hatch auto, and iv pushed it to 200 before(flat with no significant tail or head winds) it probably would have kept going but i was running out of room. ive also heard of friends that have buried their needles on their 5spd sedans.

188km/h comes up pretty fast when you're already at highway speed. Trust me, I know. lol.

you mean that's the fastest you've gone because of drag limit?
Or the fuel actually cut off at 181 km/h?

Can anyone confirm this please? Not the TB part but the Asian chicks comment.

Computer cut me off at this speed.
The car was pulling nicely up to that speed and then it's like the car hits the brakes.

You must have hit 188km/h, no way that would have happened if you were under it. Not unless Mazda moved the limiter down to 181km/h without telling people.

My GPS records the highest speed reached. And that has never displayed over 181/kmh in my car.

That was gonna be my next question. The speedo on the car reached 188 km/h but your GPS reads 181 km/h. So the speedo is a bit off - which is common on all vehicles. You had winters on? The circumference is probably different which threw the speedo off even more.

The speedo is about 2km difference. But it has gave me the same result with winter 16" and summer 17"

I would apply for a rebate from Mazda Canada since you've paid for the full 188km/h but only getting 181km/h. That means you should get 7/188th of what you paid for back.

lol. j/k.

I've heard several reports within the NA market that most but not all cars are shipped with a limiter. Personally, I don't know of a nearby track long enough for me to actually hit the speed at which I'd find out, but I'm hoping I'll get to see it when I hit the advanced driving school this year.

According to forum reports by people living in other countries that don't have rev limiters, the car will go rediculously quickly (bastards).

I have to see this with my own eyes to believe it.
It's not like the limiter can be just taken out or not installed – the chip or part of the ECU that governs the speed must be replaced with one that has no limit - so it's unlikely that some mazda 3's just don't have them.

And I don’t see how an absence of a REV limiter will help a car accelerate any faster. You don’t want to be revving into the reds anyway.

the top speed achieved by a guy which shall remain nameless with the speed limiter pushed to 220km/h by a nameless dealer was 210 here in Quebec. ;) Sorry, sworn to secrecy not to reveal the name of the dealer because they can lose their license from Mazda.

The engine was willing to go, but the gears are too short to go any further up, or maybe it was just road conditions that slowed him down. He was doing 210 at 6400rpm, so it probably could've gone up a bit more. He has a 2.3 hatch.

can someone explain what is the point of asking what the cut off speed is? other then sheer interest of how fast the car can go, why dont you just go test it out on your own vehicle so that you'll know exactly how fast it can go, and you will know how stable the car is at such speeds (which is far more important then the top speed of the car)

Not all of us are crazy. Instead, we rely on the truly crazy people to tell us what we could easily find out just by looking at their site. That would be the point.

ic, tell you the truth thats not valid enought of a point for me, but thats my opinion.

in adition if you're not "crazy" then why you need to know the top speed? simply asking, not trying to piss off anyone.

188 km/h is posted in the specs so there's really no need to "verify."

As for why, there's a few possibilities - one is that the 16" OEM tires are H-rated (max speed @ 210km/h) so there is some safety margin between engine output and tire limits. The RS-As on the 17" rims are V-rated, though (240km/h). Gearing is also an issue... like most compacts, the 3 could use a sixth gear for highway speeds. Most non-USDM Mazda3's have a 6-speed option despite not having the 2.3L engine.

3GFX

I think they have that option to improve the acceleration. We've got quite a bit of torque to utilize the 5-speeds (or in my case 4 :( )

yeah ive been driving on the highway and hit speeds around ~188km/h and the engine just seems to sit around there n not do anything...
