Yes it is very hard and you can very easily ruin your display.... not sure what the replacement cost of that little LCD screen is, but im sure it is more than you think. Good luck to anyone trying this mod.... word of advice... pay Jeff (thebiz) to do it for ya :) he is an lcd/led guru!
Looks great but its not that easy. Try reversing your polorizer. If you can do that without gigantic headaches you might be ready to tackle this.
I ain't doin it.

I still have mine too.
PM to save $1 off of whatever Flip offers. :) j/k
Seriously I do still have it though.
Why on earth aren't you trying to sell it on ebay? Pull like an extra $100 bucks for the blue over the original OEM cost!

That looks awesome!! If I wasn't getting the caska unit, I'd definitely take this into consideration.

It has been discussed b4 and you are not able to change the greeting.

Thanks so much for posting this! Hrmmph years ago! Stumbled on your post and adding it to my list of before spring mods!
Ya I did full LED change on my full, well everything. Just need to do the steering wheel buttons. (Been distracted with Plasti Dip and other mods) Power window LED is pretty simple once you get used to the soldering.
In these instrucions it shows him drimeling plastic away to get the pieces back in. I suggest you pull out the drimel before you slide it out! Way easier. Just take your time. Dont get all horny on it!
Also make sure your soldering tip is tinny!!!! I had to go buy a new one. I messed up on 2 of the smaller LEDs on Stereo. Grabbed a new board from a junk yard, but have not go back yet.

I did this on my bike, It was a pain trying to solder and desolder the 60 pin LCD screen.
If you have patience and follow instructions it isn't as hard as it looks.

Looks good man! But de-sodering the pins are not required for this LCD mod.

Hopefully you can see this pic.
This is what I did. Not as clean as the instructions but at the end of the day its the same result
