View Full Version : TM3/TOP Joint Event - Thoughts?

Anyone want to throw our hat in the ring for next year??

TOP would also like to host it again. However, personally I think that "MOTM" (with the T) will never be what MOM used to be from this point on (take that as good or bad...there are differing opinions). Justin and I are toying with the possibility of TM3 and TOP working together on something. Not sure if it would happen this year, but if not, then definitely next year as long as you guys are up for it...I know for sure TOP is.

If MOM did go back to individual clubs, then it would only make sense to cycle back through the rotation. So it would be Miatas, Proteges, and then 3s again.

Personally I think people should really give it more of a chance. If you don't like it know and are already planning something else then there is no way you'll like it. Just see how it goes with a fresh clean slate. Then if you don't like it, do something about it. Until then, give it a rest and just enjoy what it will be this year. Next year is another year.

i hope you relize that this event is being run at an actual CSCS event, which is basically similar to NOPI. So i think we all know what Mazda Canada wanted to get out of this year. Personally i would rather have a meet somewhere in the wilderness where we can have a BBQ, chill, play some sports. If i want to sit in a parking lot then i can go to any weekly meet. If i want to see cars racing i call my friends. In MY opinion this event is BS.

People are giving it a chance. What Justin and I are talking about has nothing to do with MOM. It would just be an event that would be co-hosted by TM3 and TOP with the same sort of feel as previous MOM events. But it has nothing to do with MOTM, or anything of that nature. It was only mentioned because some people said they would like to do something similar to previous events. So here we are. there is nothing to say that someone can only go to one event, or that they should go to one of the other, and it wouldn't even be teh same weekend. It's just one of many events for the summer. That's all.

Ahh ok. I just find many people are negative about MOTM, which could lead to a poor atmosphere for the event.

I'd like an MOM and an MOTM in a perfect world ;)

w3rd. We've just started talking about it, and I know the officers from TOP are all game for it. So we'll start something up soon. It's early still. But for sure...the moer people that want to get involved, teh better. Maybe if you guys want to talk to Justin to form your gruop that want to be involved, and then we can all discuss between the clubs soon.

Hey Everyone,

I wanted to throw my 2 cents in on the matter.

I have stepped down from the MOTM committee, because I am unhappy with the direction that the event is going in. Concerns that I had put forth were not listened to, and there were a number of other factors in my decision to leave the committee.

I had hoped that MOTM wouldn't become like a HIN, ImportFest, or a Darknights, however, that is what some members of the committee wanted, and I disagreed with it. There was also the issue of certain individuals on the committee who were very unpleasant in their attitudes towards other members, and I wasn't going to stand for it. In general, the environment wasn't conducive to a team, and I am not interested in being part of that.

As far as doing a joint TM3/TOP event is concerned, I can confirm that Scooter and I have talked about it, and its definitely something that I have been thinking about over the past month.

If you are interested in being involved in the planning process or have some ideas or suggestions, by all means, send me a PM me, and we'll get in touch with you when we are ready to go.

Alternatively, come and see me at TM3 meets (Thursdays/Fridays/Sundays) and we can talk then. :)

word, i am sure a few of us would be down for the planning!

Justin, ur the point man for TM3, keep me in the loop!

however . . .from now on all discussion on this matter should be in another thread, lets leave this thread specific for MOTM talk!

thanks!

I think we need to start by finding some dates that might work...

Broli
04-06-2007, 07:54 AM
certainly we do!

i meant, how are we going to facilitate the planning between clubs?

S.F.W.
04-06-2007, 11:19 AM
I figure we will start over email, and then sit down and have a few meetings. If we can decide on the basics, such as a few workable dates, then we can look at some locations.
From there we can talk to the TOP guys, see if we can find mutually convenient dates. Once we do, we can check to see if the facility's are available that date.

I will be glad to help, but I cant touch anything with a 10 foot pole until mid June. It might be too late to jump in, but I will offer my help again when that time comes around.

Wes (Perma), Ami (SFW), and I have been working up some planning on this at the meets

when the time is right we will give out info

expect july/august somewhere

CelestSpeed3

Well it's already August and I'd really like to see this event happen.

We could plan a drive up to Sybald's point, or another provincial park where we can all park our cars and have a BBQ. There are only a few weekends left and right now August 25 looks good, not to far and not to close to plan something.

did anything ever arise from this?
This would be a really great event, if it can happen this year. Because as you may have noticed, last years MOM was a flop, lets get something planned and make it big!!

We have big plans for MoM this year. Things are already in progress. TM3 is going to be leading, with some support from other clubs. Stay tuned...

I was just wondering if TM3 has ever re-considered an official track day
We have a lot of sponsors that could help cover partial costs along with members entrance / participation fees

Track rental costs
http://www.torontomotorsportspark.com/raceway/track_rentals.html

Drag Rental
https://www.torontomotorsportspark.com/dragway/track_rentals.html

A few years back I remember total costs to rent the facility, work out to just under $5000 (which included insurance and all the mumbo jumbo)

Obviously, this meet would be for next season.
I think if TM3 worked with TOP - this would be a great substitute to MOM (with most likely a better turnout)

MoM was never meant as a track event. It is meant more as a social event, for members, and their families. I highly doubt a track event would bring out more members. Several years ago, MoM was run at Cayuga, and the turnout was very poor.

With respect to the idea of renting the track for the day. The full track rental is ~ $5000 for a weekend(turnout on a weekday would likely be poor). We do have sponsors that could help, but the cost is still very high. There are many organizations running track days/events, and I am not confident that TM3 as a club should be involved in organizing track days.
That said, I will table the idea for discussion at an upcoming admin/moderator meeting .

Fair enough.

I just figured a track event dubbed "Meeting of the Mazdas", could ultimately bring more participants than the current MOM BBQ's. Including not just 3's and P5's, but also RX8, Miatas, etc

But it is what it is.
I still like the idea of the family oriented MOM BBQ, but isn't that what the annual BubbaQ's are?

edit - 5G's is a lot of money to raise though. LOL

Im with you on this Eric, I think it would be pretty fun. Track and BBQ would be awesome, and there can still be a show and shine.
im sure people would enjoy spectating track runs. I think it could bring a bigger crowd as well.

5k is big though, but i think this should seriously be considered. With the help from sponsors and entrance fees, i think its plausible

Back in '06, '07, MoM DID bring out RX8s, Miatas etc. Granted I only attended once in '06 I think, but at that point the hosting was rotating among 3-4 different model-based clubs and there was pretty strong participation from each group regardless of who was organizing it. Not sure how the participation of the different clubs is these days.

^^ I went to MoM 2010
2 dozen Mazda 3, dozen or so P5's, 6 Miatas, and a handful of 6's, Rx7/8's
weather was lousy which probably played a huge part in the turnout.

But from what I remember - for a family event - I remember only seeing about a dozen kids (if that)
