Good think 3's are common. You'd have to have one pretty Mod'ed to catch some attention from the cops.

"I want to remove the door handles on this car
No Problem. Just how do you expect emergency services to get you out of your car in the event of a crash?"

I thought this was pretty funny. LOL via window or the jaws of life?

So for our 3s what would we consider overboard to getting pulled over and having this happen to us? The car being lowered, exhaust, grille and front lip is almost everywhere.

(Whatever happened to that WB Hatch with the pink wavey pink stripe? has anyone spotted that car recently?)

That is retarded. Mostly because people can walk into a dealership and buy stock cars with way more power than these modded cars. Corvette z06, BMW m3, m5, m6..... you can go on and on. I think they could focus their attention on something a little more useful, like getting the guns and gangs off the streets instead of nice cars. Total BS.

Basically, vlad was driving on yonge st., then turned on High Tech rd to go to the Sunoco car wash...while pulling into the gas station we heard really loud honking, but didn't see what was that all about and went into the carwash.

After getting the wash, the exit door opened and we saw a dark green impala (with no markings) bloking the exit and a guy waling towards us and flashing his badge (just like in the movies). The guy was really impatient and didnt even let us dry the car, made vlad park it on the side, took the ownership/insurance/dl and walked away. When Vlad atempted to get out of the car to finish drying it, the guy came up to him and started screaming right in his face, telling him to get back into the car and sit there. Less than a minute later 4 cruisers and 1 minivan (?!) pulled in and surrounded us. There was no explanation given to us at all, however when some random person pulled up to them and asked what happened, the officer who initially pulled us over said something like "this guy almost killed someone".

Meanwhile we were just sitting in the car making rather sarcastic remarks, as we knew that there was no just cause for this whole comotion.

After a half an hour discussion with his fellow officers, the cop came up to us, gave our papers back and a ticket for vlad saying 'speeding 100 km/h in 60 km/h zone'. Considering that there was no radar involved, this is just one of those "he was going faster than I was" tickets...

That's the storry, you can go to sleep now, broli

why so many cars?
that is messed up, for a speeding ticket?
don't understand these cops sometimes, i have seen cops at another instance come into the la paloma parking lot and surround a car b4, including a minivan - maybe it was for a similar reason.

were u speeding man, or he just gave u a bs ticket?

I disagree with this mentality.

If you go out and buy a Z06, then you're buying a car that's been properly engineered to handle the power under the hood, and that's been properly put together.

One of the biggest problems with modified cars is that the people modifying them either have no idea what they're doing or are too cheap to do anything correctly.

I think that lowered cars with blown struts SHOULD be ticketed as unsafe.

Same goes for cars with bald tires (even if only bald one one side due to retarded camber issues), cars with tires obviously rubbing the fenders, cars with misaligned blinding HID's, and all other manner of unsafe modifications.

Of course, there's a pretty huge line between proper policing and just plain harassing people.

wow crazy story, hope it gets thrown out in court. As if i needed another excuse besides paying 15k more for an STI, the sleeper look of the MS3 really attracted me to the car. My mica MS3 blends into the background pretty nicely and I am happy about it.

Wondering what would be better... Black CP-E CAI since it looks more stock, but is aftermarket, OR Mazdaspeed CAI which really stands out but is a Mazda part sold and warrantied by Mazda... probally get less grief with the mazda intake in a situation like that where they are under your hood no?

That is one crazy story, but I thought that you were pulled over for modding your car...

In any event, best of luck Vlad.

I'm sure something triggered this whole crackdown event. I don't think they just happened to decided on one day after their donut break, 'Hey, let's go hunt us some modders today'.
I'm sure there hasn't some proven accidents, statistics which have led to this crackdown.

TORONTO — The Ontario government will unveil today tougher new measures to curb street racing that will allow police to impound the cars and suspend the drivers' licences of anyone caught participating in the activity.

Premier Dalton McGuinty will join Transportation Minister Donna Cansfield this morning at a safety-education centre in Stouffville to announce the crackdown. Government sources say that, under the proposed amendments to the Highway Traffic Act, drivers caught racing on public streets by police would have their licences and vehicles taken away on the spot for seven days.

The amendments would also increase the maximum fine for those convicted of street racing to $10,000 from $1,000. At the same time, police programs to encourage drivers to take their cars to a racetrack instead would be expanded.

"It will be a strong piece of legislation that deals with penalties, but it will also look to prevention in the first place," Ms. Cansfield said.....

Ontario is going California style over the next few years

Less than a minute later 4 cruisers and 1 minivan (?!) pulled in and surrounded us.

Wow, we saw some thing like that at the last La Paloma meet! Maybe we should re-think the location.

------------------------------------

This is utter bulls**t. Right after I throw on my rims. Are they saying that because my tires are larger and grip better in rain and dry that they are unsafe? WTF :flaming

So yes, I'm going to change my liscence plate bulb asap, its not worth the risk of a 110$ ticket, but come on.

And as for my license plate covers. "Oh I'm sorry you could read my license plate clearly officer, I'm sure it would have been easier if I didn't have a cover and it was rusted to s**t.:rant

I don't mind the fact that they're cracking down on street racing, but to go as far as to stereotype a car is totally impractical!!! In the article released by the Globe and Mail it says that encouraged trips to the track will be part of the program. HOW CAN WE GET THERE IF WE HAVE NO CAR!!!

A properly modded car should not be ticketed. My intake has my car maker's name on it!!! I've got a sticker of my club, does that mean I speed all the damn time? :complain

This is another huge money grab. The fact that people who mod there cars are assumed to have money because they can buy parts. I know, let break the bank on em.:loco

Honestly, what about DUIs? What about half the cops out there who speed themselves? What about all the darn cops I know who have there own suped up rides? What about the the suped up cops? Technically should their undercover cavaliers and cameros and civics be pulled over?

Out of all the crimes out there, why would someone's done up car be targeted? I would be interested to see the numbers that contributed to this decision, as well as other provincial governments contributions. :bang

In the end, I'm gonna change my blue bulb, and I'm glad I'll be in Kitchener for the summer.

:gone [/rant]

EDIT: I was talking with a Justice Studies student in my school who was telling me, its probably the time of the year that the quota's for street racing are coming up. Which could explain the recent attention to 'done' up cars.

As per my experience from http://www.torontomazda3.ca/forum/showthread.php?t=17697

I was on my way home from visiting Street Performance earlier today and I got pulled over (again) around steeles/warden. Passed them my papers, no questions asked. Officer goes back to his car, 5minutes later, returns my papers and then says "have a good day".

30 minutes later I was driving to Whitby and this time a Durham police officer pulls me over, same deal. then returns my papers and says "drive safe"

I'm getting irritated, I wonder if someones Winning Blue hatch back got stolen or something /sigh

I disagree with that. The import mod guy/gal (majority) do it for style. It is a bling thing with some extra pep.
The guy going out and buying the Z06 or M3 / M6 knows he has the power and the car that can handle it...So he uses it!! They have the "This car was made for this" attitude and have a false sense of saftey. They are the dangerous ones.
Not the import guy with Rims and CAI who revs his car and takes the odd corner faster than they should.

It is a no win issue... It is all being done for votes and to please mommy groups.
And of course the cops now can write more tickets...fill their quotas faster and get more time off..win-win for them.

Porcshe/z06/Ferrari/Lambo's have some of the worst on road driving habbits if you spend any time on streetfire.net. Just because they can afford 100K or more doesn't make them any more responsible

I think you're vastly underestimating how many kids cut their springs and put on a big exhaust tip and suddenly think they're driving a race car.

And even if they're not... they still shouldn't be driving around on blown struts with tires hitting the fenders and that sort of thing. This is way too common to be acceptable.

I agree with you 100% on this. That's why I take issue with it. They never address the issues properly and just do this stupidness to get good press.
