View Full Version : My rear bumper got scratched

Only 17 days and my rear bumper already got scratched. I don't think its a car there is no point to prove that or any dents from another car. I think something or someone scrathed it. Haven't been to shopping mall so its not a shopping cart.

I will post pic up later. It's about 2cm long and .5 cm wide and just about 2-3mm deep and feels a little rough when I touch it. Does anyone know how I can fix this besides getting the bumper repainted? Would the touch up paint at least hide it?

opps typo in title guess i can't change it (rear)

Touch up paint will hide it from more than a few feet away, if applied carefully and properly.

That sucks man. Sorry to hear.

You'll get lots of stone chips because the paint used isn't very good. You could get the 3M clear coat stuff which is probably the way I should have gone in retrospect.

As for the scratch: It sounds fairly large. I'd start shoping for a smaller shop to get that fixed asap since it's still brand new.

Guys is that ture that the paint sucks? How much to 3M the car and is it just the hood and bumper?

Yes, it's true. The aftermarket paint on my bumper is holding up a lot better than the stock paint on my hood, in terms of rock chips.

wow! I have really small scratches too from a few weeks ago when my dad closed the garage... ON MY CAR!

I have a scratch just like that one near my license plate and lots of little one's on the bumper itself. not sure i will worry about it, other than maybe some touch-up paint for the smaller scratches. might even be able to use claybar or buff them out?? not sure...

Anybody know of any places that do a good job on a clear bra?

I've been sitting on a 20 inch scratch on my passenger side door for about two months now. I got the touch up paint ($11 wtf!), and I decided to take a day off of work next week so i'll have no distractions!

So Mazda uses cheap paint? Hmm.... Nissan has an option for their cars to use three coats of paint instead of whatever is normal. For an Altima, it's $125 for metallic paint, or $285 for three coats of paint.

gonna try and fill in the scratches with the touch-up paint and use rubbing compound to smooth it out afterwards

I doubt i will ever buy another mazda again simply because of the paint. There are spots on my car where its down to the metal (ie, roof/A-pillar) and the car is not even 3 years old.

Living downtown and having street parking my bumpers gets rammed more then Jenna Jameson (and I mean late 90's Jenna). I wish people could learn how to parallel park!

Did something hit your roof to start chipping the paint away? Or was it one of those "touch" carwashes?

flying debris from the highway (stones). I have always handwashed or "touchless and rail-less" washed my car.

ok..mines worse..
first day i got my car (last July) driving to Cambrdige to visit a friend and take my brand new car on a little road trip. On the way home the guy in frony of me lost his rear bumper and it hit my front bumper (did about $1000 damage) went under my front tires, hit up inside then under my rear tires and was left for the next guy to hit. Needless to say, the guy didn't stop, and I couldn't get his licence plate in time and to top it all off...I was at Guelph Line Road in the middle of NOWHERE..
yes.. I cried that night.

I just wonder how many other cars after me hit it.....because no one else stopped.

1st Car, 1st Day, $1000.00... Avante Mazda called me the next day and was like "we'd just like to thank you for purchasing a car from us, blah blah blah..."
I'm like " yeah.. about that...."

All I need is for someone to back into me and all is fixed.
(know anyone who's interested? :) )

Most of the new cars have crappy "environment friendly" paint. I have a lot of chips on my hood and front bumper but that's only because i like to tailgate SLOW drivers ;)
