Hi Everyone,

After the events of last Monday, I setup a Facebook group memorializing Dr. Liviu Librescu who died in the Virginia Tech shooting. The group can be found at http://www.facebook.com/group.php?gid=2317683565. I have also setup a petition calling for the renaming of Norris Hall to Librescu Hall. The petition can be found at http://www.petitiononline.com/04172007/petition.html

If you don't know the story of Dr. Librescu, here's what happened (in a nutshell).

When the second shooting began, Dr. Librescu instructed his students to leave the room, and blocked the door with his body. As the last students escaped the room through a second floor window, Cho Seung-Hui shot and killed Dr. Librescu through the very door he was barricading. The greatest irony behind his death is that Librescu, a Holocaust survivor from Romania, died on Yom HaShoah, or Holocaust Martyrs Remembrance Day.

Had it not been for the brave and selfless acts of Dr. Librescu, many more families would have been torn apart that day. We should forever remember the heroism of Dr. Librescu, acts that saved the lives of many. There are numerous ways in which this can be done, from bursaries to scholarships, to planting a tree or erecting a statue in his honor.

I was curious to see if I could engage your help in sending out a message to any friends, family, and co-workers to garner support for the group, and more importantly, the petition.

Please feel free to join the group and/or sign the petition at the links included above.

If you need anything else, or have any questions, please feel free to get in touch with me.

Thank you in advance for you support, I greatly appreciate it.

Noble.

But what was the reason it was named Norris Hall in the first place? Maybe you should find that out before you ask it to be renamed... Perhaps there are other ways to memoralize the gentleman.

Dadd makes a good point. Are there any thoughts on what his family might like to see done in his name?
