Interesting. The whole basis of his argumement is that the Mazdaspeed3 has too MUCH power. LOL

Well the second article is by a guy who hasn't driven one and based it entirely on the first article.
That said, I think the guy who wrote the first article is a *****. :)
Nobody says you have to put the pedal all the way down all the time. It sure is nice to have the power available when you want it though!
I've experienced no torque steer at all while at full throttle getting up to highway speeds on a ramp or passing people.
I agree with Weasel on this one. Sounds like the "*****" has a heavy foot.

What's interesting is that every other review by people who know how to drive has talked about how impressed they are by Mazda's ability to harness all that power using the fancy differential and electronic aids to keep the unruliness to a minimum.
Funny that this review came out of Detroit.

theres actually a vid on youtube of an mps in europe. the camera ia inside the car and it shows the driver hammering through the gears with his hands completly off the wheel except for slight corrections to stay in his lane.

Someone sent me that at work, didn't even bother responding... i've driven all three and the ms3 was an easy choice.
I really don't get the handling complaints from some people... do they not know how to drive or are they driving a different car than the one i own lol?

i honestly think someone paid these guys to write something bad about the ms3, after their..... "review" look at what people said about them or their reveiw.
this makes me laugh, i think these guys are *****s or mabye mazda put a super turbo in their test cars and took off the 1 and 2 gear limiter.

if you search for reviews, im sure you'll find 100s of good reviews and these 2 being the only negative ones... and especially since the car has been out for over a year now (or atleast magazines have been test driving it that long) and these two reviews were done recently kinda show that these guys dont really have much of a reputation to be able to get their hands on the car earlier... the only other bad thing i've ever heard about the car is how its annoying driving through parking garages and setting off car alarms, which i rather enjoy doing to the paseo that parks 5 spaces away from me in my building :bana

ill trade you my regular mazda 3... for your speed 3 if it sucks so much! :chuckle
even if they dont handle so well they look hotter than normal 3's, and better than those other cars in their class.

I think those articles were definitely written by people who not only can't drive but also don't know anything about auto styling. To call the bodykit on the speed3 "tacky" just shows how much they know... the lines on the car are very sleek and that spoiler *whistles* damn sexy.... It just sounds like these guys should go back to their little "pos" cars and leave the real cars to people who know how to drive them. Obviously the 263 Hp is just a little much for them everyone I know who either owns the speed 3 or has driven one says the same thing "wow" But hey... this is why some cars are made very slow :chuckle for people like this

i immediately discredit any journalist who says there is too much power... no such thing. Not enough grip, poor handling, or whatever could be problems with a car, but too much power is never a problem... simply means you just told the car world you're a sissy who thinks a prius has plenty of get up and go

I think we can only actually talk shit about the first article because he is the moron, the second guy just read his article and said that he hasnt tested it yet, but what the moron is saying may be true, he isn't agreeing with him yet! He also gives Mazda its rightly deserved props for trying something different. If they had put an AWD into the car though it would be at a whole different price range and be put against different cars, to which they would probably have other things to knock on the car! Personally I think the guy doesn't know squat, I drove the car twice and absolutly loved it, found nothing wrong with it at all, except it made me want to drive too fast! I just laughed at the article!

Mazda probably just pulled back on sponsorship to those sites, and as a result they threw a bad review in.
no review is without motive anymore. especially if its on a site or mag that sells advertising space.

This thread still lives.. :)
I think what you little kids fail to understand is 263 hp in a front wheel drive car is NOT!! a powerful car.
0-60 in 6 sec??? 14.5 1/4 miles.... Mustangs and Camaros were doing that 20 years ago while most of you were still in grade school at half the price...and I bet alot of you weren't even in this country. CraigR88 was still in diapers when REAL Cars were Driven Fast..
Have fun and try to brag about how great your $35,000 overpriced underpowered import is.
Find a nice GTO or Firebird or Mustang with over 350hp and 300FT.lbs of torque at the REAR Wheels and come back and talk about power and handling.
Kids....

You're right, it is not that powerful. However, 260 HP to the front wheels of any car is a lot.
So what if Mustangs and Camaros were doing it 20 years ago. They had twice the number of pistons, twice the displacement half the fuel economy, and couldn't turn for shit.
Times have changed, back then people drove big monstrous cars, now the norm is a compact/midsize sedan and Manufacturers are just making a go fast version to appeal to those who want one, no different than what they were doing in the 60s & 70s.
How much are Speed3's going for out the door anyways?

what about the speed3s in the states that are pushing low 12s? thats pretty fast for not spending more than 40gs on the car including mods (obviously as canadians, we'll have to pay abit more)
the 2008 mustang starts at 33gs which is more than than the speed3 at 31, and puts out around 230whp vs 220whp... so to make up the difference in pricing, you could buy a CAI and full turbo back system which dynos roughly around the 250whp range.... looks-wise, the mustang does look more aggresive but the interior of the speed3 is way too good for the mustang, when you're drivng you dont see the outside of the car anyways, just the inside... i've driven a mustang before and it drives like shit... its nothing special, its just a name that's been dragged on
you shouldn't get so upset since the new kid on the block is more popular, especially in a mazda forum
and if mustangs and camaroes were doin that 20 years ago why are they still ONLY doing that and not upgrading? it seems like every other car company tends to improve the power of their models rather than keeping them at the same 300hp level, i can't remember the last time mustangs have had more power than that (not including the gt500 or shelby models cause they aren't normal mustangs and pricing shows they dont match with the speed 3)

lol REAL cars... I find that amusing.
this thread has easily turned itself into one man's debate that ignores facts, reviews, and first hand opinions and only relies on someones personal issues, bias
- 30 years ago.... $30,000 today was only worth $6000 if not less. I hope you are taking into account inflation, because if you're right..... those mustangs would've actually cost 1/10th of the cost of today's speed3...
- 30 years ago, cars were made to go STRAIGHT and fast.... i dare you to take your stock 1970's mustang/camaro and put it up against the speed 3 and see what the results are, why? cuz i'm actually curious too
