I agree.. Its hard to get someone to do it unless you really know what shade you want. Trial and error.. im sure people around the board have emblems they want to get rid of... heck Im getting a GS grille to experiment on myself

Some guys on the mazda3forum.com bought this emblem set and replaced the factory emblems on their MZ3.

The front one is a direct replacement. The tribute "mazda" emblem is stick-on. The "mazda" emblem on the back of our cars has tabs on it = two holes which can be covered with the new black emblem and maybe filled with silicone from the inside.

Hey guys,
Sorry if I am repeating something here - I am a noob and I just bought an 07 Mazda 3 GT Sedan - love it! But I am looking to replace the front grill emblem with something like the Black Pearl one that yearoftherat posted the link to. When I checked out the ebay site I asked the seller if the emblem would fit my car and they said that it wouldn't. If you know it actually does then please let me know, or if you know of how I could paint mine to match that - I would appreciate any help you can give me.
Thanks guys,
Cheers

Pull it off
Sand it just to roughen up the surface a little for better primer adhesion - no need to go crazy
Apply a few light coats of primer
Apply a few light coats of automotive paint - colour of your choice
(Optional) Apply clear coat
Replace emblem

I imagine that glossy stuff like that is more expensive. Try CDN Tire?

i bought a spare badge to test it on before doing it to mine, it came out bad....i scuffed it up lightly and i guess the sanding work was uneven so patches were dull and some had a bit of shine to it....
how the hell do i **** up on something that should be a difficulty = 1?
Anyhow, i'm trying the mazda3forums way for fun, bleaching/peroxide the badges first....just for fun as an experiment
Give this a try.

Then you'll have a bunch of holes to fill.

The front one has 4 clips 1 on each side. from the inside of the grill carefully push down the clips but not all the way.... (I remove my grille and turn it over to easily remove mine) And its a simple pop out.
For the back, if I'm not mistaken it is by 2 pegs. Some people just use fishing line and weave back and forth to get in the crevices.... Pop out with fingers and pull out.
Hope that helps.

My front emblem has 5 clips...well it now has 4 :bang
theres one on the top, one on each side and two small ones on the bottom (one of which i broke lol)
you're correct about the back one...
the "MAZDA" one has 3 and the "3" has none...
i used a hair dyer to heat them up and removed the carpet/plastic lining from the trunk lid and used a screwdriver to pop the little plugs out...made it alot easier for me
i am now in the process of painting...will post pics in an appropriate thread when im done :)

I can read and write but was maybe looking for someone who has done it and is not known to screw up simple things. If it was for all my emblems, maybe...
I'll give it a shot. As mentioned previously, if I screw up, worst case scenario = purchase new emblems.

Last week was a crazy busy week off. I'll probably put the emblems to bleach over the next few days tomorrow. How do you guys think pearl white emblems would look on a black car? too tacky?

i just started the bleach process for my front emblem on monday night. does anyone know how long it should take in the bleach bath? and for those that have done this already, do i need to change the bleach after a couple days or does it work effectivly for the whole 3 days?

I changed the bleach every day. It got pretty black when I did my wheel caps. For me it took approx. 5 days for 4 emblems in one container to be stripped. After that I sanded and cleaned up the small bits that remained.

i removed the carpet part and reached my hand in but i couldnt get it in far enough to feel the plugs. can i just pull these emblems off from the outside or do i need to pop out the plugs? if i do pop the plugs, does that mean that i dont have to tape them to put them back on?+

Crazy lazy LOL!
kidding! It's actually very delicate and you might snap it when sanding.
Clean it up good - Use some primer and spray in a side-to-side sweeping motion.

May i make a suggestion on the paint choice?
Thanks!
I've refinished a lot of trim, both interior and exterior, cloth, vinyl, plastic, metal on the restoration/reffinishing jobs that I've done. The best choice for paint would be Sem's Automotive trim paint. You can get it virtually any colour and application needs that you want. There are paints for vinyl, plastic, cloth, and metal. There are prep sprays, cleaners, promoters and the works.
Look here:

You'll find this product to use is easy as pie or drinking beer! .. and its available at Car Quest BTW. The high gloss black is easy to use, self adhesive, and self leveling. Does a real nice job. I'm doing my emblems (when I find the time) in high gloss black on a Black Mica 16w Hatch.
1. Remove emblems
2. Scuff with 3m Red Scotch Pad
3. lightly sand with 2000 grit
4. Paint light coat, let flash for about 3-5 minutes (1 beer)
5. Paint second light coat, let flash for about 10 minutes (2 beers)
6. Paint light 3rd coat (then have 2 more beers)
7. (optional) Place emblems on trivet on woodstove.
8. Have 2 more beers.
7. Install the next morning when your sober.
Cheers!

In reply to primer, chips, etc.
Quote: The high gloss black is easy to use, self adhesive, and self leveling.
key words -
'self adhesive' : means it sticks by itself with no additional paint prep required.
self leveling : means it fills small holes knicks and scratches and looks smooth as p*ss on a plate.
The key is to scuff and clean the surface with the RED Scotch pad. Then sand with 2000 grit wet. The pads cleans, the sandaper smooths, but leaves tiny grooves that the paint adheres too.
