A new study released by the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety lists the vehicles with the highest and lowest death rates. But as the data suggests, driver habits may have as much to do with fatalities as structural safety.

While the statistics may seem to suggest the vehicles with the highest death rates are the least safe, a closer look reveals driver behavior is almost certainly the deciding factor.

Take the Infiniti G35, for example. Its death rate is just 11 per million vehicles. Compare that to the nearly identical Nissan 350Z, whose death rate is a whopping 193 per million.

The vehicle with the lowest death rate is the Chevrolet Astro — an archaic minivan that performs horrifically in IIHS frontal crash tests. Despite this, its death rate is just 7 per million, compared to the infinitely safer Chevrolet Blazer, which has the worst death rate of 232 per million.

The lesson? It's not just what — it's how you drive.

rsx.. neon.. sunfire.. eclipse.. cavalier.. ricer cars :D

also those are usually 2dr cars whereas the ones with fewest deaths are SUVs or minivans (family cars)

hmmm.. not really surprised at the results tho..

Might as well just combine the Sunfire and Cavalier 2 door numbers since they're essentially the same car. So that puts the J-body 2 door at the top with 350 deaths per million. WOW.

It's not the car, it's the morons driving them. These idiots in their RSX's think they're Schumacher and find out the hard way their not.

I think Majic hit it partially on the noise with the ricer thought.

The one that kills me is the Blazer!?

"Kia Spectra: hatchback 4dr car small - 191"

lol, its probably a suicide number for this one. once the owner realizes what their driving they become very depressed because the huge mistake they made buying it.

majic said exactly what I was thinking:
The cars with the most deaths I see commonly modded on roads and/or driven by young teens.

I figured the cars with the lowest deaths like the 7 series, pilot and odyssey are also cause no one buys them, but then again, the g35 and others are up there too.

heh. You suck at math.

If you add the two numbers together, then you get 350 deaths per TWO million, which would be 175 deaths per million. ;)

Not really, that would be the total per 2 million. It would be more like 175 per million.

Looks like Weasel can type faster than me.
