Hi guys,
I am looking into doing the independent fog light modification, but also need to find a way to disable the DRLs on my 2007 Mazda 3.
I've searched this forum and Mazda3Forums in hopes of finding a guide for it. All the threads I found included an obsolete link to another board.
Can someone please point me in the right direction?
Thanks

Out of curiousity, why do you want to disable the DLR for the fog mod?

I am planning on purchasing super white bulbs for the fogs and do not want the dull-yellow DRLs to interfere with the look.
Unplugging the bulbs will, Unfortunately, also deactivate my high-beams. I'd like to keep those. :)
high-beams.
meh, they're over rated :chuckle

It's one of those "you don't know what you have till it's gone" things.
Anyone know how to do this? It is probably different than the 2006 and earlier models.

Pull up on the e-brake until the first click.

U serious? It may work but wouldn't the car beep at you every few kilometers? Kinda annoying.

This was a trick on my Grand Am, except when you did this the ETS (traction system) and ABS turned off. Also you will definitely wun the risk of damaging the rear disks as well as the e-brake. I would highly suggest that you don't use this method.
I would wait a little while. If someone hasn't come up with a solution already, I'm sure someone will soon.

I've read about that trick, but I'd rather not use it. There is also a variation on the trick were someone actually removed the switch which senses the handbrake position.

Anyone got the wireing book? Check to see if the switch is opened or closed when the e-brake is down. The "mod" could be as simple as cutting a single wire.

I saw someone driving a 2006 Mazda 3 Sport GT in Silver on Huntingwood around 6:30pm. He had done this mod. I was tempted to just stop by him and ask, but he was heading in the opposite direction. :(

2004-2006 wiring will be slightly different than 2007 since their DRLs are low beams.

Well...a lot of people with aftermarket HIDs have this mod - especially 04-06 since DRLs use low intensity low beams which is a no-no for HIDs. Heck I have this mod but I got LockDown to do it so I haven't got a clue how it's done. So if you see me on the road, don't pull me over to ask. :)
Doesn't the HID Relay Harness disable the DRLs? Or does that only work on 04-06?

Isn't it just a fuse? On my Mustang all I had to do was remove a fuse.....
Quick check of the 2007 MZ3 owners manual says.....
page 8-56
fuse 22 DRL
10A DRL*
* is for some models
DRL is the only item on that fuse.
This fuse box is the one in the engine compartment
Should work although I'm to lazy to try at the moment. I went out and got the owners manual.

Someone pull it and let us know what happens.

Ok, so I was impatient and went and pulled the DRL fuse to see if this would work. Voila! DRLs no longer turn on in the daytime. If you want to use your fogs as DRLs then you'll have to do the ind fog mod to have control over them.
That's so much easier than the 04-06 setup :chuckle

This is an awesome find... I'm surprised no one else thought of it.
nice96gt, nothing else was affected right? No CEL either?

Nothing that I saw. I figured something would pop up but nope. I just did a quick look at it but things looked ok to me. Mazda probably wanted a cheap way to add DRLs to the 3's that needed them and a fuse was definitely the cheapest/easiest way to do it.
If I did this on my Grand Am I would have got a service light. Yay Mazda! lol.

Hey glad it worked.:)
I think it is the Ford influence on Mazda which allowed for the 1 fuse for DRL's as my 99 Mustang is where I got the idea to check for the fuse on the Mazda.

Drove around with it out for a couple hours today and there wasn't a problem what so ever. I put it back in though until I decide to do ind fogs.

Thanks for testing it. I just have to find the time to do the independent fog mod...
Anyone know whether the light-green wire in the fuse box can be used instead of going to the brown/red in the steering wheel column?
