Just got stopped by police before turning into the street for the Go Station outside of Market Village. Apparantly I had went through the turnning lane on steeles.

Only got a warning but the interesting thing is I had my Nav unit open on the dash top and he didn't even bat an eye or ask me about it.

Lucky or they aren't educating them anymore on what's legal in terms of "distractions"

I live near that intersection and I see cars go straight on that right turn lane all the time. It clearly states that the right lane must exit and has the arrows on the ground too. I seen a few times where the cops just park at the gas station and pull everyone that goes through on it.

Is it illegal to drive with the nav system on? I always thought it much better than having a map book open in your lap looking down all the time.

As long as you're not watching a movie, nav units are not illegal to use while the vehicle is moving.

Yeah I suspect that in 10 years just about all new cars will come with Nav units.

I certainly hope so!

And I hate people who go into turn lanes, and then go straight and just cut back into traffic.

I used to live just west of Kennedy Rd. and people would do that on Kennedy southbound at Ellesmere all the time. So instead of being able to make a right turn on the red light, I'd get stuck behind some asshat who was holding up the turn-only lane waiting to go straight.

I'd usually just lay into the horn. Sometimes they'd turn, and sometimes they wouldn't, but it made me feel a little better for some reason.

I'd cheer whenever I saw a cop in the gas station across the intersection pulling people over for it. :bana

The whole thing is just plain selfish and inconsiderate. Like they somehow should get ahead of everyone else who is waiting patiently and properly in traffic.

*******s.

The only reason i use that lane is because the turn lane for the GO Station is that same lane across the street. I wasn't a big fan of having to sit in traffic waiting for people to pass 2 lights that are only 15 meters apart when i could zip across and turn.

However if they are going to keep policing it, nothing i can do except sit there, wait until i get across then change back into that deadend lane.

I remember someone clarifying that it was more like anything that could distract the driver that wasn't specifically GPS. So like if you had a media player doing music with a funky graphic that would get you ticketed for $80

Yep. I'm sure that's what the people thought who just wanted to cross the intersection at Kennedy to get to the gas station.

That doesn't change the fact that you're holding up people who actually have a right to be there and be able to turn.

If everyone else has to stay in line to pass those lights, what makes you special?

Not a cop, but I went through most of the tests, up until the interview process, and then Toronto put a hiring freeze on. :bang
