It works alright, your best bet is to just rent the ones from home depot though. It also depends on the type of carpet. It costs about $30-40 to rent it from the depot with the detergent etc.

The bissel works well for little stains in marginally sized areas. Good for getting the deep down dirt but wont get bad stains on white carpets or rugs out all that easily.

I touch on both... It doesn't do much but makes the carpets closer in tone as opposed to having browner areas or spots etc. Takes a lot of time though!

I bought a Bissell carpet cleaner a month ago for the house and it worked well. I also bought it to use it on the car, I have yet to try it, but am looking forward to see the results.

I've found it works ok to pretty good for small fresh stains (depends on substance, how fresh, how soaked in, etc).

Older/thoroughly in stains it doesn't work so well on, and its small size just makes doing a larger area (e.g. front footwell) annoying.
