View Full Version : HID's w/2007

Okay got mine installed, working great, looks good and great illumination.
Just some quick questions.
1. Adding HID's before (2006's and under) would bypass the DRL so I've read on guides, on M3F. Seeing as I pulled a fuse and now my DRL are gone, do I still need to tap into the turn signal wire for the relay? (btw, it's not white w/orange, its orange w/blue)

2. Can I use one of the stock low beam positive wires as my signal wire for the relay? I ask because this will still enable me to turn on my corner lights without headlights (high or low) turn on.

If you have a 2007, you do not need to remove the DRL fuse, as the DRL run off the high beam lamp.

Regarding the relay, I'm not sure what your trying to accomplish (Mind you, I'm no HID/Relay specialist). In my car, I have a 07 Mz3 GT, I didn't pull the DRL fuse nor install an additional relay. Just tapped the original headlight wires from the low beam into the ballast. I'm still able to switch on just the corner lights but since I have the DRL fuse still in place the "half powered" high beams still come on and serve some sort of purpose in keeping it "legal".

Hopefully, something there helps. If not, like I said I'm no specialist. :bana2

no, you don't need to tap into the turn signal wire for the relay

yes, use the stock low beam positive wire to trigger the relay

the tapping of the parking light wire was done on the 04-06 because their DRL was the low beam with a rapidly pulsed on-off signal.

Okay just what I wanted to hear. Quick answer and just as quick fix under the hood.
I did the independent fog mod to use those as my DRL's, or my angel eyes if I feel adventurous.

I didn't think about just plugging into the stock plug and forgetting the relay harness altogether. IMHO I'm much happier with the harness, as it will relieve the stock wiring. I would assume there is more draw on the lines and system.

Glad you posted this since I will be putting mine in soon.

Is there really going to be that much added strain to the system if a relay isn't used? I wouldn't think so but I would rather be safe than sorry. Anyone with experience in this area your help would be appreciated. :)

I can't see that much of a strain, but I'm no HID expert. I would think that the wires from the ballasts to the bulbs are high high voltage and before shouldn't be much. But the kit from Devin is plug and play so installing the harness took me 15min including cleaning up the wires with zip-ties.

Yeah I figured the same but I would rather play safe with headlights/foglights. I don't need any melted harnesses.

I can't wait...lol. Picking them up tonight. Hopefully I can have them in before my gf gets home...haha. Gotta keep it a secret till she figures it out on her own.

She'll know as soon as you turn them on...what once was "white" is now WHITE WHITE (hint of purple). Depends on the color, I got 6000k's. I wanted light output and not an obnoxious blue 8000k.

Know where your going to mount the ballasts yet?

Yeah I know...I'm just going to try and delay it a bit :chuckle

No idea. I figured I would have a look and see where a good spot is. Any suggestions?

Well people have put them with 2sided tape under the light housing (stock location) or up against the flat spot behind the headlight (I checked, couldn't see where to put a bolt or mount).
My prolumens have the igniter separate from the ballasts. But what I did was put on the brackets on the ballasts, then under the thick plastic brace ontop where the rad is, there's some "pockets" near dead center by the hood latch. Why I picked there is there is some holes already to put the 10mm bolt through and hold the bracket. They fit all the way in, and there's other "pockets" all the way along, so you can put your igniter in there too. So all the wiring, is relatively up along the brace, protected from the front and lip of the hood goes way over that so water "should" have a hard time getting up in there. Yet to see but I only put mine in lastnight. Grounded using the chassis ground bolt (passenger fender, topside), power wire will sneak between the top and bottom of the battery box (where they meet). Theres a bolt that holds down the bottom part, driver side and it leaves a gap enough to get it through without modification. The rest is up to you. Shoot me a PM or post here if you've got more questions.

Gizzmo_jr - Thanks. Yeah I'll have to have a look at it. I'm sure it won't be that bad.

majic - thanks for the pics...I was actually looking at one of your threads from a while back http://www.torontomazda3.ca/forum/showthread.php?t=9448. I am still a newbie on TM3 but I've learned over the years how to use the search button :chuckle

Don't the ballasts get warm? Wouldn't it mely the velcro over time, or do they not get that warm?

i've had my prolumens/xtecs on for a while and i didn't see anything melting.. they do get warm but they aren't scorching hot

Cool, I just haven't dealt with HIDs before but I've done wiring for angel eye fogs before so I'm not worried. Thanks for the info. :)

oh .. FYI.. i velcro'd the ignitors to the ballasts.. with a 1cm by 3cm piece of velcro.. the ignitors are light so it was enough

You guys are funny...

Who wants to get paid to put in the bulbs for my HIDs? I am serious here people. That or a case of beer lol. My fingers are literally bruised from trying for so long! I have absolutely no problem doing the wiring but god damn those retaining clips are the devil!!! I couldn't do them and had to go out but I managed to get the stock ones back in for the time being. Now if only Mazda used 9005 bulbs like the Grand Am did...:gone

Okay went for a spin outside the city lights and holy moly does it ever look bright. I thought the stockers were good at lighting up infront, but the HID's do way more especially to the sides.

Moved my signal wire to the stock harness clip and now they (HID's) come on when my low's did, thanks guys. I'm pretty impressed, these lights were pretty high on the list of must haves. My old Jeep lighting system sucked the big one.

I feel your pain :P I've got the same kind of problem but I was told that the bulbs aren't what they should be, need some kind of spacer to make it fit properly.

I just installed a prolumen kit on my '07. the spacer + the clip = 2 days weekend
I installed them on Sat daytime, tested at the same night to found out the passenger side bulb was not sit properly cause the light beam on passenger side is little too far to the right. reinstalled on Sunday, everything is good now except my fingers are hurt as hell.dam the clips and the spacers (even after trimming those spacer's legs a bit) r still hard to fix together.
Anyway im so happy with the light output, definitely worth money. and now pics....

I was just reading up on Xenon lights. What's up with "manual" levelling for the Mazda 3 GT Luxury package? I thought all Xenon lights (at least from a manufacturer) would have to be self-levelling, so you don't blind oncoming traffic. Is manual levelling normal?

cwp_sedan
06-04-2007, 10:07 PM
Look in your manual. It shows you what settings are recommended when you have a load, or passengers, etc. More or less you can manually control the levelling height if weight in the vehicle causes the lights to point more towards the ground.
