summary: all 47K vehicles in Bermuda are to be equipped with RFID tags and 'readers' can detect where each car is and if it's exceeding the speed limit, automatically send out a speeding ticket to the owner..

small island. I can't wait until every car comes with a standard GPS device that has a unique identifier then it will be all over.

Say hello to Big Brother!
If they did that, they might as well put speed limiters in all cars that held them to the max limit.

Don't move to Bermuda.

Isn't only 15 miles at most in any directions there? It would truly suck none the less.
I think most of the population drives motor bikes or mopeds so perhaps not as big a deal as we car dependent Canadians would think.

I tried to read it carefully - says nothing about ticketing speeders - just giving tickets to those who haven't registered their vehicles, as well as commercial vehicles driving where they aren't allowed.
It says this will be extended to insurance, but nothing about speeding.
I guess this could be extended to speeding, but you could argue that of of the 407 (and I remember they did), and I still don't get a speeding ticket automatically there?
They still need to read the RFID tags at a point in time - so no different than photo-radar or license plates - just digital and easier?

honestly.. ppl are sometimes quite gullible.. i know it's not april 1, so it's much easier to post the little twist and ppl will believe.. :chuckle
and yes you would need to capture the time and position of a vehicle and then do it again and use the deltas to calculate the speed..
the main purpose of the RFID tag is to track vehicles and ensure that the ones that are on the road are registered and comply with Bermuda's inspection standards..
... till next article ;)
