hey gizzmo , did u follow m3-gt walk through from mazda3forums or did u get it from another source . also was there any problems u ran into ie, melting ?

I followed that tutorial yes. And I used 18gauge wire to prevent those nasty pictures that people posted up. I've peeked inside the fuse panel maybe 3-4 times (doing other installs) and see absolutely no visible problems related to heat/smoke/burning/melting.

Gizzmo,
Did you tap into the ignition wire for your independent fogs? If so, did you try the one in the fuse box or did you go directly to the steering column?

I've got indy fogs and i did it myself, I did it exactly as in the m3-gt guide, working great, i've got either 18awg or 16awg, no problems 4 months now. would be different for ppl without the foglight switch probably. It was pretty easy, everything was real straight forward. The only challenge i found was making sure u have the right wire. U have to tap into the black wire /w red stripe, but there is one with a red stripe and one with like a maroon stripe aswell which is the wrong wire. secondly, i recommend you get wire tap-ins from radioshack/the source, the wire you need is in a pretty tight bundle and stripping it with a knife was annoying, plus u need to be careful not to sever the wire entirely.

I cut it entirely, it only provides ground when the fog light switch is in the on position..
makes no difference, IIRC

I did the top left fuse (empty) in the fuse box. Same one where people plug into for Angel eyes.

Can you provide more information?
From the guides that I've seen, you have to use the stock fog light relay... Two legs go to the stock relay location, another leg goes to the empty fuse location, and the final leg goes to the signal (which would be the ignition in our case).

I bought them from lockdown & had them install it too.

What's the question? The signal wire is the little wire in the steering column that comes from the stock switch. That red one to the empty fuse spot is the power wire.

Hehe. You answered the question. Some people were saying that instead of going through the trouble of tapping into the signal wire in the steering column, you can use a signal wire from the fuse box.

I have heard the same thing, but at the time I was already fishing wires through that hole above the clutch so I took that route.
To me, better be safe then sorry and just use the wires for the actual switch. I didn't keep up on that post, but that taped into wire in the fuse panel, is it the same wire or something?

The guy who tried using that wire had a 2004 if I remember correctly. For him it worked backwards. The lights would come on when the ignition was off.
I tried asking whether it would work on 2006/2007, no one replied.

Wait now.. you went to the extra expense of having HID's so you can see better in the dark... and now you turn them off at night? :loco

For you guys that want the fogs on whenever the key is on "on", just connect the ground wire to the car's body. Keep in mind that the fog light toggle won't work anymore.

I kinda feel stupid for asking this question but what are independant fogs? Is it just like not having any of the lights on but your fogs or is it something else? If so can't you just do that by turning your headlight switch to none and then turning the fogs on? idk...never tried it
WeatherB
05-29-2007, 07:29 AM
It means that your fog lights are on, regardless of what the other lights are doing.
In the stock configuration, your fogs won't come on unless you have your full lights on (or maybe your parking lights ,not sure). When you press the high-beams, they also go off.

It can be done a number of different ways
My DRLs are actually my HID fogs + angel eyes.. and the go off when the car goes off. (no delay)
Just depends which fuse you draw signal from in the mod.

I have the independent fog mod done but I didn't get Lockdown to do it.
You guys know how there's 3 setting on the light switch, "interior/turn signals", turn on low beams and Auto light positions.
My "interior/turn signals position will also turn on my headlights. Can someone tell me how I can make it so it doesn't and when I have fogs on the turn signals are off. I want to know how I can make it like the A4 style.

Sounds like the signal wire for your headlights is tapped into the parking lights. I know someone with a 04-06 will give better input but I'm sure if that is changed you should be fine.

Mine is wired right now but the turn signals don't come on when the fogs are on and I lost the ability of just turning on interior lights + turns.
I think the guys that did mine might of tapped into a wrong wire or something.

it is very easy. The most pain in the but part will be putting the wire through the fire wall. It is an easy job but a pain at the same time. Make sure you have someone with you who has relatively small hands helps avoid taking out the battery box

It's kinda too late now cause I got it done on a weekend that I was home from university. I just never had time to bring it back and it was a month later that I realized that the turns don't come on.

+1 to that, if something doesnt work, most times a dude would rather fix it than have you go around telling people he doesnt stand by his work.
