View Full Version : Insurance Company can Lick My Balls

I hate insurance.

My insurance company just called me to tell me they were working on my renewal papers and asked if I'd like the 6 star protection added.

Of course I would.

Lucky me. They said I'd be saving over $700 next year because I'm now a 6 star.

Then they call me back half an hour later to tell me that because I have two speeding tickets on my record, I won't be a 6-star so my rates don't change.

So that $50 speeding ticket is now costing me over $700.

This is why you always fight your tickets!! It's not enough just to have them reduced!!

Jerks.

You have to factor in the cost of insuring a new car, let alone one with hot engine.

Sucks you got the higher qoute dude, but when they do an abstract they caught the tickets... not their fault you got 2 of em. I am waiting to see if I end up in the same boat.... mine go to court in a month :)

Well, it's not really their fault that you have 2 speeding tickets. Did you tell them that you have 2 tickets when you got the original quote?

Wild Weasel

No, it's not their fault, but they could have run that check BEFORE they called me to tell me I'd be saving $700!

In that case you were well within your rights to fight that. Should have escalated it to a supervisor.

What insurance company are you with?

I can understand having to pay more for insurance because of two tickets but you should still remain a 6* driver. If you are being bumped to a 4* or 5* then start shopping around. Most companies will still rate you a 6* but probably charge you an extra 10-15 % for the tickets (which is still cheaper than being re-rated to a 4* or 5*)

Yeah, that's what I'd expect.

As soon as the papers show up I'm going to start shopping.

Check with your HR rep, you might possibly have a group home and auto insurance program at your place of work.

If you are an alumni of a University, TD Meloche Monnex provides group rates, I am pretty sure they will give you a 6* rating

Hope it all works out!

I'm already getting the employee discount, which is somewhat significant. That's why I don't really expect to get a cheaper rate elsewhere, but I'm sure as hell going to try!

You're still in a much better boat than me I assure you.

I had to pay an "agent" to find me the cheapest rate (not only the cheapest but also a company that will actually cover me) and that little service cost me an extra $400.00 and now my "reduced" rate is $550.00 a month. Without the guy most of the companies either completely refused to cover me or gave me rates as crazy as $1200.00 a month.

Keeping in mind at the time I had 3 tickets in court, no points on my record, but a wrecked luxury car. As well as being 18 years of age.

Now I've still got all of that...plus 2 points and 7 more tickets.

Can't say it was worth it but it's too late now, have to learn and move on.

seriously speaking.... insurance is such a pain in the butt... but it is necessary.. as far as living in the ghetto.... that would make your insurance sky rocket... the area you live in depends on the crime rate... and the rate of theft on vehicles.... the more ghetto of an area.. the higher your gonna pay because the more likely... your car is to be stolen!! Try shopping around.. just cuz you are gettin an employee discount.... doesnt mean it's the best... I got asked why I didnt insure my company through CAA where I work... and i got a quote with a member discount and an employee discount and they were still 100 bucks more a month then wawaneesa... i do agree though I would have asked to speak with a supervisor... because they called you not vice versa... should have checked everything before they called you and offered you a product you don't qualify for.... !

I dunno if your right there. My boss has a 530i and he pays more then I do and he is 30 years old with a clean record and he lives at Jane/Finch. I have a clean record too and I live in North York and my insurance is as cheap as my co-worker who is 26 and lives in Newmarket

All of Toronto has the same rates - it is territory 717 by insurance terms. In fact, that includes much of the GTA as well for many insurance companies - Brampton, Mississauga, etc. The "ghetto" doesn't have a separate rate from the rest of Toronto.

And Newmarket has lower rates than North York. Don't kid yourself. You can't compare yourself to your friend because there are tons of factors to consider.

Wow. Back from the dead!

Anyhow... I switched to Meloche Monnex and saved nearly a grand. They pretty much gave me the rate RBC quoted me before changing their minds.

So... as per the title... they've lost my business.

I'm hoping to see a drastic rate decrease when I turn 25 in 2.5 years... no accidents, no tickets thus far. Young guys like us get brutal rates, even with clean records.

Same, I just turned 25 so I can't wait to see what my rate will be when it comes time to renew. It isn't bad right now though, $202/month with RBC but I got a huge discount because my parents insure 2 cars and have house insurance with them.
