Picked up a Mazda3 GX Sedan today. Automatic.

Lotsa oomph in first gear, but after that, it's like broli - WEAK. Pedals are too close for my big feet (you know what they say about men who have big feet...). Car holds the gear all the way to redline in manumatic mode. Awesome. I had to pay $300 to get software to change that on the BMW.

On the highway, the car is kinda floaty at 140km/h.

Mentioned this before - trunk has no recess to put your hand to lift it up. Terrible.

Now everytime you see some handsome man in a grey sedan give you the finger, it's me.

Exploding Fan!
Yes, you read it right.

The blades on my auxillary fan hit something (I assume it was the plastic shroud) and disintegrated. There's now a puncture in my hood from one of the pieces hitting it from inside. I guess it could be worse as I've read on e46fanatics that if the pieces could've hit a coolant hose or punctured the rad.

I'm pissed because I brought my car into RMP Motors just this past Wednesday to do some preventative maintenance. Changed the waterpump and the thermostat, alternator belt and AC belt. All in anticipation of me running in Amit's Shannonville track day this past Saturday.

So, on Saturday morning before the Shannonville event, I am going down Yonge Street and accelerate briskly. I don't remember flooring it. I hear some plastic rattling from the front of the car. It really just sounded like I ran over some stuff on the road. No biggie I think to myself.

After my first run at Shannonville, I go to open my hood to let it cool down and I see the puncture on the hood. I investigate further and see that the aux fan blades have all sheared off. Notwithstanding the blade-less fan, the car ran like a champ at Shannonville. No weird noises at all, so I'm positive the incident occurred in Toronto earlier in the morning.

I'd hate to think it's RMP because of their solid reputation, but I pick up my car on Thursday morning to have this happen on Saturday morning... maybe something wasn't installed properly. I'm not sure what to think about this. For what it's worth, I did think RMP's price was great for the work they did on my car and they did it fast. They are a helluva drive though for someone who lives in the East end and works in mid-town T.O.

My car is a 2002 330ci with 75K, so maybe it's aging. In one of the e46fanatic threads, someone mentions engine mounts. Maybe weak engine mounts have caused the engine to tilt too much and cause the fans to hit the shroud? Maybe an aging plastic fan with hairline fractures... who knows...

I don't think this is a common event, but it has happened to others in the past. Now trying to see if I can eliminate some variables so it doesn't happen again in the future...

I am out of warranty, so all this crap is under my own ticket.

So, the Enterprise guy comes to pick me up at the mechanic's place with an Altima 2.5. Not a bad looking car. But at the store, I see a Mazda sedan with black tailights. I said I want the Mazda! Funny thing is, I guess the new models come with the black tailights even on the GX model. I thought I had snagged a 2.3 motor. LOL.
