just got my vibrant header in the mail today and i was reading over the installation for the 2nd o2 sensor relocation. it seems a little complicated.

for those that have the headers i would like to know where did you guys get your headers installed and were you successful in by passing the check engine light?

i would perfer to get my headers installed at a placed that already worked with the vibrant header on a mazda 3 rather than a 1st timer.

thats awesome...id love to hear and drive my car someday with headers....

i heard from a friend that speedtech on silverstar (midland and finch) can do a lot of various installs.

splitfire or master performance have dealt with teh vibrant header, u could go there for installations

Master Performance

both shops have worked on my car with the vibrant header during the R&D process.

Have you done an emission test with the headers. That is only thing keeping me back from doing the mod.

Got my OBX header installed at Street Performance by Jim, I highly recommand his work. So give him a call he will get u a good deal.

As for the 2nd O2 sensor, since my OBX header doesnt comes with the flex pipe, so I got a custom made one by Jim with spark plug anti/non-fouler trick and it works great without any problems and CEL.

If you dont mind I ask how much and where did u get the header?

I was wondering would you get some performance if you change the stock headers but keep the OEM exhaust?

WOW....gizmo is back......its been a while man...

It should increase power as your exhaust gases will have a greater negative pressure. The cat back is the first stage, and installing headers will give you that large diameter exit from the source.

My problem is when you install header you remove the primary catalytic converter so you would fail emission.

What do people do to get around that and is their a problem with burning out your exhaust valves?

Heyyyy Pearly, still lurking around here and there!

Any answers for the emissions? I'm definitely going to for a vibrant header down the road....as everyone is saying...i'm also worried about emissions because the primary catalytic converter comes off. Also...is it louder...and does it sound nicer?

I've read that is really increases the engine noise, but because you delete the primary cat you automatically fail emission test. Seems to be a big issue because not one person has ever replied to it.

I don't know what happens if you fail emission testing either. I just read rumours in places. The website is no help, because if you fail once you can do repair work up to a certain amount. If you stioll fail you get a conditional pass.

What would you do if you put in a header and basically are failing emission testing on purpose????

option one
-----------
get a shady garage to do a spoof test with passing numbers so you can go get your sticker. then enjoy your nice header.

option 2
----------
sell me the header at a price suitable to a students budget

what i really want is a header and test pipe....however, that will make my car insanely loud and fail the emission and (most likely polluting the environment and not doing any good for global warming along the way).

Vibrant advertises a 20hp increase with a aftermarket exhuast, 9hp with stock exhuast. If you keep your stock exhuast it wont really be much louder. At least it wasnt for me on previous cars. As for emissions .. the problem if you fail is every year they keep upping the minimum amount of money you must spend to try and pass. Last i heard its going up over a thousand dollars in 2008, currently it sits at 400. And its supposed to be money spent on emissions related parts. That being said, I think a aftermarket exhuast would be more then 400 bux :P so then you`ll get a conditional pass, and have the headers. Oh ya btw, conditional passes are only good for 1 year instead of the standard two years with a normal pass.

i got a vibrant header on my car, it was very loud, but it does give fair amount of hp improvement. u can definitely feel the difference.

the vibrant header and exhaust gives you gains of around 20whp, dyno proven on my car. reguards to emissions, when i was in R&D with vibrant, they cant see any problems with pasing emissions because you still have your cat to filter out all the bad stuff. ive yet to get one, was supposed to for vibrants sake, but have not yet.

So,
For those who have a Vibrant Cat-Back system, does that mean the Hi-Flow Cat will be good enough for emissions....with a Vibrant Header?

nobody knows as far as i know as nobody has done the e-test.

Noob question here, what tools are needed to install the headers? :S

APH will most likely install the headers, or they can do the relocation 02 sensors for you.

Learn the drive clean system and your fine.

Slam down your
Coils, take car to a place with a DRIVE UP etest dyno not a DRIVE ON etest dyno.

As a drive clean inspector you are not to damage the vehicle and if it will not clear the dyno it
Gets tested like a vehicle with 4wd or one that cannot turn traction control off, and it would have to be puking out emissions to fail.

Basically find somewhere that your
Car wont clear driving up(some places have steep ramps for the dyno)

They cannot refuse you if your car will not clear the dyno, they will go ahead with a "two speed idle test"

If anyone is REALLLLY interested i could upload some pages from the drive clean inspectors book.

Also using a high grade fuel system cleaner like the motul cleaner will lower emissions(throw that in a day before or two)

And make sure the car is HOT AS CAN BE,
That will also help major with emissions.

Ive seen nearly new cars "not meet emissions requirements" on there first drive clean test
Due to not being at operating temp.

Just to clarify for some people,

Your vehicle can be tested WITHOUT going on the dyno.

Wich means your engine will not be put under load, and will not be putting out much emissions at all.

I'm planning on selling my car and I'm scared about emissions testing tbh :S
I have vibrant headers and a vibrant cat back. If anyone does know it'd be great if you could PM me

Been thru 2 etests now with the header and cat back, passed the first time. The second time I needed a new category but I passed after that

Keep in mind that just because you fail an emissions test doesn't mean you can't put your car on the road. If I remember correctly, if a car fails, you have the option of getting it fixed, or pay a fee (not sure how much....$150 ??), and get a piece of paper to get permission for MTO to give you your plate sticky. . . anyone else feel free to add to this statement as it's been a few years since I had an older car.
