This goes under 'other cars' for one reason. Its not a Mazda 3 I'm working on. lol.

So here's the jist of it. Buddy of mine has a 94 "Pimpin Purple" Chevy Cavalier RS. :bana

A bunch of us went to Canadian Tire to buy some bolt on (non-engine) mods for his car. Eventually I'm going to build him a Cold Air Intake using Skarbro's idea posted elsewhere in the forum but thats for later. Anyway we ended up getting STROBES!!! Yes that's right $60 for two car (headlight) strobe lights. :gone

I NEED HELP!!! :blush

Where should I wire these puppies in?

I was think of hooking up to the positive directly to the battery, the negative to the shock tower (as a ground) and splice a switch into the positive wire to turn the puppies on and off.

1. Is this the right way to do it?

2. Will this cause any issues (other than draining the battery if the car is off)?

3. Will it drain the battery when the car is running?

4. Open for suggestions (not including don't do it).

Notes: We bought two kits. One kit includes 1 bulb, one speed adjuster knob and wires. Thats about all. We're buying the switch seperatly.

Any help is greatly appreciated. This is a weekend mod that we are all pretty pumped to do, only because its soooo tackingly awesome!!!

fuse between battery and switch. shouldn't be a problem with draining the battery since you can't use them while driving.
Maybe use a relay.

Schematic anyone ;)

Ok, where can I pick up a fuse, and what # would be sufficient?

Also, there are two kits as I mentioned. Should I create a parellel circuit with both boxes with one gound, and one positive lead to the battery or should I hook them up seperately? There are also seperate control boxes for each light.

Actually, I PM'd him earlier for some 2nd Generation Cavalier forums. The forums are helpful, but I'd rather ask here.

Its a general question I guess. How would you hook em up on a 3? Same idea.

battery +, to fuse, to switch, to strobe, to ground.

Keeping fuse close to battery, and ground close to strobes.

yep...That's how I would do it as well. I wired my leds like that before without the fuse though.

A fuse holder can be picked up at a Canadian Tire or Walmart, probably where you buy your switches as well.

Yeah, my only suggestion is to put a fuse in it somewhere.

Instead of going right to the battery though, you should tap into some interior power source such as the cig lighter. No need to run wires through the firewall to the battery just for this, and if it's anything like my 3rd gen, the cig lighter should be hot at all times, even when the car is off (unlike the Mazda).

I stopped in at Canadian tire to check out pricing for a switch and the other stuff needed and it turns out that Canadian Tire sells a complete wiring kit (including switch, relay and fuse) for this type of application!!!

Awesome!!! Thanks for the help guys, definitly cleared this one up for me!

If the strobes were in the front he'd still need to run wires through the firewall.

Yeah, I was thinkin' they'd be in the interior.
